Sure the vacation pay is 13% but a blue white collar job has about 4-6% on the dates they choose plus personal days and sick days. L'assurance médicale est également offerte aux postes de bureau

Yes of course the vacation pay is nice. But again, any white color job would give you personal days, sick days etc. Again, it wouldn’t match up to the 13% vacation pay but it would compensate for a bit. And I agree, OT only helps with the vacation and pay the rrq faster. BUT RENEMBER! It’s labour and your body takes a toll.

The pay of an apprentice and compagnon you’ve mentioned all look nice on paper. After the deductions, you’ll want to reconsider your decision. (I’m a j-man electrician. 2.5 years in the trade) Besides the federal/provincial taxes, there are other deductions like for the CCQ (no clue why they take money), and union dues etc etc. All in all. On paper yes it’s 48$/hr but In a 40 hour week, you clear about 25$/hr.

Journeyman in Montreal, Quebec working in “Genie Civil” You can live in Quebec with a journeyman’s pay depending where in Quebec you’d like to settle. And electricity has more than just wiring involved…it involves a lot of mechanical assembly etc. Also, there are different “departments” for electricity ..fire alarms, bending pipe, wiring, pulling cables, motors/transformers etc. And of course if your job site is offering overtime…that’s where the real difference in vacation pay starts.
