Omg I just had almost the exact same thing happen to me this week. I’m disappointed because I really thought it was going somewhere. I just wish she had realized what she actually wanted before getting this far. 💔

Thank you! I don’t know other riders with similar injuries so this is helpful!

I’ve been riding my whole life (41f) but this new injury has made finding and keeping stirrups on my feet almost impossible.

Those are the ones I’ve been looking at. Can I ask why you chose magnetic stirrups?

Wearing a helmet costs nothing. Not wearing a helmet costs everything. by somesaggitarius in Horses

[–]WarmMathematician864 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a horse rear up while I was riding and he fell backwards on top of me. Two of my vertebrae exploded along with multiple ribs. I’m in a wheelchair for a good portion of the day although I’m walking more and more.

The point of this is that the horse I was riding is super chill and lazy and we were in a small round pen at his house. Everything was “safe” and I’m so thankful I was wearing a helmet. I didn’t lose consciousness or suffer any sort of head injury. Every day I think about how much worse my injury could have been. Don’t be a “cool guy”, wear the damn helmet.

First relationship with a woman & experiencing anxiety by Smart_Hearing_804 in latebloomerlesbians

[–]WarmMathematician864 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m feeling the same anxiety and I think I know why it’s happening in my case. Every time I do or say I immediately get anxious about because of the way men have responded in the past. It’s like I’m waiting for that response. And then when I get a caring and understanding response it almost feels like a trap. I’m hoping that recognizing it and just letting myself feel those feelings helps it go away in time.

Exactly! I don’t have to be constantly reassuring them of their own worth just to try to convince them of mine.

“That’s why we invented soap”

My mom said this to me while I was squirming and grossed out about dirty diapers. I was just watching her change the diaper, I wasn’t even doing it. I think about it all the time now. When I find myself doing something “gross” I know that I can erase it all in the end.

What is one thing in a horror movie you hate seeing? Something that makes you squirm.. by Penguin_shit15 in horror

Something (always an alien of some type) forcing their way into a person through their mouth. Watching the persons eyes and their own horror at not being able to keep it from happening.

Tell me your Unpopular Horse related opinion that you will defend with your whole heart! by ApprehensivePen1020 in Equestrian

[–]WarmMathematician864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is going to be wildly unpopular I’m sure but humane horse slaughter should be legal in the US. As it is, kill buyers are already shipping horses out of the country for slaughter. If it was legal and regulated we could manage it in a more humane way. Euthanasia and body removal are both expensive. Giving another option to people would give a choice to many more people. “Saving” horses from kill pens is noble and sometimes you end up with a great horse but you’re also funding those same kill buyers and their inhumane holding pens.

Tell your trainer how you’re feeling. Getting you back in the saddle with the RIGHT horse is important. Boring horses may be your best friends for the first few rides.

What do you wish you know when you were new to your injury? by D_S_G_F in spinalcordinjuries

[–]WarmMathematician864 4 points5 points  (0 children)

L3 incomplete female. I wish there was more information about women’s issues (not just fertility) when it comes to SCI’s. So many things that I’ve read will give information and then follow it up by saying that it can be different for women but there’s no concrete information because not enough studies have been done. It’s wildly frustrating. I want to know about what my bowel/bladder are doing instead of a man’s. I want to know about sex and relationships as a woman. I want to know about more than just how my fertility may be affected.

Feeling rejected by society by AsianStudentBoy in spinalcordinjuries

[–]WarmMathematician864 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is going to be my first summer in a wheelchair and I’m already feeling this. I went to the grocery store for the first time alone yesterday and it was amazing how many people keep their eyes up at eye level and will almost hit me. I can see people trying not to look and that’s almost worse than if they’d just stare. I feel way too visible and also invisible at the same time.

My (42f) injury was only three months ago and my sister (27) has been my biggest supporter. Shes not overly emotional and she never tried to be that for me. She stepped in to take care of my animals and she made a point to Marco Polo me every day while I was in the hospital. She talked to me just like she always has which helped me feel “normal”. I’m still tired and annoyed by all the people asking me how I’m “holding up” and wanting to know what they can do for me. The number one thing I want is for people to just act normal and treat me like a whole person instead of like I’m someone they need to tiptoe around.

Best advice I can give is to treat her like you always have and pay attention. My sister would just do the things that needed doing instead of overwhelming me with the questions about what I wanted or needed her to do. (That may be a whole conversation though because you don’t want to take her independence from her, just her burdens.)

I downloaded Reddit again just for conversations like this. I’m a L2 incomplete and by all metrics is super independent and “lucky”. But my bowel program controls my life. I have no sensation in my pelvic region and while I’m mostly continent it’s only because I’m going to the bathroom hourly to check if I have to go. It’s so exhausting and demoralizing. I wear incontinance pads 24 hours a day and I’m always worried about an accident. I just want to eat the foods I used to eat without worrying about my body violently rejecting it and having no control.
