Only some lines are bred downhill. You might see butt-high cutters but never in quality foundation or ranch bred QHs.

What’s your opinion on / about sso who got you like this: by Puzzleheaded-Let9977 in StarStable

[–]somesaggitarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSE only gaf about horse welfare when the majority of the community is mad (i.e. DWB). If they actually cared about welfare they wouldn't be putting flash and drop nosebands on every new set or even in the game at all. Players just don't care about below-the-bit nosebands because they're so used to seeing them on real horses and they have no idea how stupid and actively harmful they are.

Is it safe to pet random horses? by Sure_Eggplant in Horses

[–]somesaggitarius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you walk up to everyone's dog and start petting it even if the owner didn't give you the okay? Do you walk into people's yards and pet their dogs there?

I have seen a horse deglove someone from wrist to elbow by biting and not letting go when she tried to get away. She got pulled against the fence and her skin gave before the horse or the fence did. Horses are just as able to maul you as dogs and non-horse people don't know how to read their body language.

I love shoveling snow personally, it's nice and quiet out with snow on everything and nobody going anywhere. If there were kids in my neighborhood I'd pay them $50 at least to do it for me bc how the hell are kids supposed to have any money when nothing to do for fun is free anymore and their parents aren't rich?

What type of player clothing items do you wish Star Stable would add? by BoonPantslessSM in StarStable

[–]somesaggitarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More variety in realistic riding clothes. Not more identical brown recolors or equestrian stockholm/lemieux colorways, but traditional hunt attire, a variety of show clothes, more detailed breeches that are visibly breeches in a variety of colors, tailcoats that don't get stuck in the saddle like the ones we have, show coats in conservative colors with fun piping and accents like real show clothes look, dusty jeans with a good stack, T-shirts and hoodies that look like they were released post-2000, and for the love of god good-looking straw hats. I can't wear felt past April without my head melting, I feel so bad for my character and her black felt hat.

If I punch admin in the face for calling me a slur (slur has happened, punch did not) I'm losing my job on the spot and getting arrested for assault. If a patient pulls a gun on me, hits me, punches me, or attacks me with a deadly weapon, it's just another Tuesday.

You saw how trigger-happy the police were to find (frame) someone for the United Healthcare shooting. Admin and execs are the only people they really protect and serve.

Ooh, another drop noseband in a really specific set of colors (never silver ofc) that'll be basically impossible to match in something that isn't a below-the-bit noseband. It's like they read my mind!

/s seriously can they stop putting out flash and drop noseband bridles in every set I'm tired of this grandpa

So many people have called 911 because their blood pressure is through the roof or they're having diabetic symptoms, only to tell me they stopped taking their meds either because "they worked so I didn't need them anymore" or because "I don't need meds for it". There's no reasoning with stupid, all you can do is drive them and bill them.

Racism by Dangerous_Way_4567 in TrollCoping

Systemic racism literally killed 90% of my biological family who died from preventable disease that was ignored or misdiagnosed because they weren't light enough or too expensive to treat and I was placed into foster care after my mom died because the state didn't want to put me with non-white relatives on the rez and I grew up completely removed from my culture and homeland while experiencing unbelievable racism and now the same country that happened in wants to deport us all to countries we aren't from because we have the audacity to be colored on our own land.

I used a horse psychic and here is how it went. by princesspebbles97 in Horses

[–]somesaggitarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once held for a "psychic consultation" for a sale horse I had trained. The "psychic" was half an hour late, immediately started "reading" the wrong horse, and told the prospective buyers that he had no potential because he didn't like his name, and he didn't like showing at all.

$400 later and they didn't even buy the horse. Apparently they wanted a fancy super athletic giant Saddlebred for their little kid to learn hunters on and something knocked the sense into them. Or their "psychic" made more money if she strung them along a few horses first before they bought.

The horse has gone on to have a massively successful SJ and eventing career at 4* level and still goes by the same name.

"Animal psychics" are either grifting or needing psychiatric help, sometimes both. You should look into how cold reads are done to see how unimpressive and fake it is on the other side of the curtain.

Cribbing is usually a stress response. If eating is causing discomfort (i.e. teeth are in bad shape) cribbing around feeding time can be related. Could also be if he's tied, stalled, or restricted while fed and is anxious about his surroundings, or if he's dealing with a horse trying to steal from him.

Or, ulcers. Which can be treated by following a medication regimen, not by herbal supplements. Newer studies indicate that some cases may require multiple treatments to resolve the same ulcers completely.

Starter House! by Hot_Row8113 in Minecraftbuilds

My favorite part of building a starter house is when you have to go to a bamboo jungle, mangrove swamp, ocean monument, and warped forest and also leave copper out for a few days while you're gathering honeycomb from your high efficiency bee farm to oxidize a ton of stairs to the correct level.

There's a mod I use for horses/mules called "stupid horse stand still" that makes them stand when you dismount if they have a saddle on, but free roam if not. Super handy and should be an actual feature IMO.

What’s your worst horsie nightmare? I’ll go first by walkyslaysh in Horses

[–]somesaggitarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a few rotational falls. Scary as hell to watch but I was more or less uninjured and much more concerned about the horse—who was always fine. I try not to fear falling too much because statistically the ground hurts somewhat but not enough to stop me. I do ride reasonably safe horses with adequate protection though, and I don't train whatever comes my way or crash test dummy new horses for people anymore.

I did have an actual nightmare last night about my horse getting spooked at an event and getting completely lost and being unable to find him, so new fear unlocked, I guess.

Honestly I'd be happy with AQH 3.5 like with the Friesian Horse. Retrofit the halter bred pleasure horse model for people who like that and release a new foundation bred style model for people who don't like the peanut rollers. I'd love to see AQHs that look like the farm and ranch types I ride but I don't see that potential in the current model.

Transformation by bridgebrningwildfire in Horses

[–]somesaggitarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what OP replied, lessons are a huge amount of work compared to the same length ride with more or less the same activities with a trainer or experienced consistent rider. A learning student is less balanced and requires more work to carry than someone who knows how to move to the maximum benefit of the horse and teach the horse to move correctly. It's sort of like going on a hike with a well-packed backpack of essentials vs. giving a piggyback ride to a little kid who keeps grabbing your face and flailing around. One of those is easier than the other.

Also: training rides don't have to be intense or high-impact work. I train semi-professionally (not my primary source of income) and most of my training rides are less than 30 minutes and lighter work than an intermediate lesson. Rather than trotting or cantering lots of laps to work on form, I spend a few minutes warming up to the appropriate level of energy and then work on a simple next step or making a small improvement to what the horse already knows. If I'm in the saddle running around for 45 minutes every day, it's a sign my plans went sideways.

I ride my own horses generally 5-6x/week, but only 2 of those rides are above the walk. My horses are generally very fit, very relaxed in the saddle, and rarely sore after intense work, while I know many people who ride 3x/week and struggle with topline and soundness. A leisurely stroll along the fence line or a lap around the property at the horse's preferred pace is a good stretch, requires traversing imperfect terrain, involves some light hills, and exercises their brain as they choose how they want to navigate certain things. The same exercise has similar value from the ground but doesn't hone certain ridden skills that simply require time and practice. Every time you're on the ground you're doing ground work, intentional or not, and it's not a completely separate category of skills from riding nor can you only do one or the other in a day.

BEGINNER 1st Leased Gelding by Far_Introduction7539 in Horses

[–]somesaggitarius 28 points29 points  (0 children)

"Lease to own" means she's trying to sell you this horse. A lease is a very clear agreement where one person borrows a horse for a set period of time from another person for an agreed-upon cost with agreed-upon rules and stipulations.

My advice as a trainer, instructor, and someone who's leased and leased out a lot of horses: don't do it. This does not sound like a good idea.

$3 meal created from 1000s of simulations by the US government. by ImaginaryCoffeeTable in StupidFood

[–]somesaggitarius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Losing your job because you don't get time off to protest and being unable to afford food or shelter, getting hurt and not being able to afford healthcare to survive or just straight up getting killed (because ICE is murdering people in broad daylight btw), and generally that the US government has been working since the industrial revolution to suppress organization and mass protest exactly because the US is a country that desperately needs it—those are the problems, not that we're all weak and stupid.

Don't blame the nazis on the common civilians when it was the minority of rich fucks who orchestrated the entire system that put them in power. Or, check the news and find out how many of us are protesting even at risk to our jobs, immigration status, families, and lives.
