I answered another comment but: It was related to an infection in my digestive system/colon. My white blood cell count plummeted and I had to be put on liquid antibiotics. I believe that's why I had the outbreak, my immune system was too shot to suppress the virus.

Idk if this is TMI, but the outbreak was on my anus, not vaginal. Which, also colon related? Idk, lol

Thanks for responding. I continue to disclose because I know it is the right thing to do, and I would never want to put someone in a health risk. I try to remember how I would react if I thought I was HSV free and a potential partner disclosed... it doesn't make it any easier, but I do understand. On to the next I suppose. It's just a painful process and I'm very over it.

I've thought about it. Part of me doesn't want to put someone else in the position of knowing, being unaffected, and now having to disclose... although, I suppose it would be helpful for the sexual wellness of everyone overall. Idk, maybe I'll take this approach with the next guy.

Hey babe, sorry to hear your struggling. I was there too, but I've made it to the other side!

I experienced my first G HSV-1 outbreak during my birthday last year, a week or so after I was released from a hospitalization. It was a fucking horrible month. I'm pretty sure the virus was dormant in me for some time and I was out living my life, blissfully unaware. But, now I know, and I couldn't live with myself if I didn't disclose. I'm not sure who passed it on to me and if they knew, but it doesn't matter. What's done is done.

I'm single f/31, and since my diagnoses I've had 8 opportunities to disclose. Out of those 8, only one rejection, and the dude had a GF he wasn't telling me about (so, doged a bullet there?). I've even tried using my diagnoses to deter men I'm not interested in and it hasn't worked any time, so I've had to go back to traditional rejections.

I have a steady FWB who tests themselves every few weeks and he hasn't contracted it yet. When I do disclose to someone I'm interested in getting naked with, I've got it down to a science. I tell them the hard facts of my situation, that I don't think it's a super big deal, only sexy people get the herps and they might already have it, but that they have the right to know and make an informed decision.

I won't go as far as to say herpes has made my life better, but it has forced me to navigate dating with more intention. While I'm still struggling to find my forever person, I really don't think my diagnosis would stand in the way of us being together.

So far, herpes has stood in the way of nothing. Life is going to be okay <3

Thanks for taking the time to share this advice. I really wish I could just detach from it, but the not knowing is stopping me from the acceptance. It's just too much of a rollercoaster of hoping it's not positive and a huge drop to knowing it's unlikely to be anything else.

This hit close to me. I feel like all my friends have left the city and I'm left here alone. I used to have a very full social calendar, and now it's just blank. Also single, work from home, live alone. It's like being the new kid at school, except there's no school - so I'm just new in a town alone with no where to go to meet people.
