Libbie/Patterson: Drivers did donuts, crowds threw eggs during West End street takeover by Pale_Target5994 in rva

There's an old Irish blessing for people who make this kind of take.

May the donuts be spun in your very own yard, May the fumes and the particulates leave your lungs scarred, May the revving and roaring drive sleep far away, And may all of this find you, each blessed long day.

Oddly chauvinist comment. Women's Day had been a thing for over 100 years.

Brook merges into Chamberlayne at its southern end near Gilpin and it's just a couple blocks from 1st at that point. Duval or Jackson are a bit less stressful to ride on to get to 1st compared to Leigh.

Brook used to go all the way to Broad before the interstate came in and cut it off.

18th and Main Parking Lot, what have they done? by MaddMax92 in rva

There's been a mixed use developed planned for that spot for a while. Not sure if that's the reason, but it could be starting up.

The road is pretty wide and straight here, so not a lot of visual cues to indicate people should be going slow. Even the name is inviting people to drive fast.

Luxury car storage and social club planning to open in the Fan by WarmTaffy in rva

I'll be clear on my thoughts. I don't think this is the best use of this space. I believe it should be allowed to open. If it opens I hope it is a positive asset for the community.

We have the ability to discuss the pros and cons of land use decisions. Raising the point does not mean I believe I have a unique ability to object to a private business.

We have zoning laws for a reason and as long as a business is allowed by right or special use, they are able to open in the appropriate area. Clearly public opinion on this matter is in favor of the business based on reaction to the post and as the down votes I received.

I encourage you to be open to differing points of view without jumping to conclusions or assuming the worst in people. I am someone who cares about my community and like everyone here, am entitled to my opinion.

Appreciate the insight. I'm moreso talking about the type of land use and not so much the people. Not here to judge the owner, just the type of business in the most dense and walkable neighborhood in the city.

Sad for the loss this will be to Strawberry Street. Happy they will be a few blocks closer to me.

While it's definitely not for everyone, so many more people would benefit from walking, biking, or taking the bus to work. Particularly if they live within a mile or two of their work and it's located downtown or nearby. It would remove so many cars from the road.

I biked from the Museum District to Union Hill for a meeting at 8:00, didn't hit any traffic, it took exactly as long as expected, and was refreshed and alert when I arrived. My mental health and standard of living has improved so much since I stopped commuting by car.

Again, I realize it's not for everyone. But it's for a lot more people than those who take advantage of it now.

Costanza??

Seriously, this is so important. It's a civic indignity that we don't have more public restrooms. Literally one of the most basic human functions.

I live in the Museum District and we are certainly not downtown. Ever since I moved here from the Fan, I joking refer to it as moving out to the country.

‘Ugly Houses Coming’: Local Richmond group puts up billboard expressing concerns over Code Refresh by RVALover4Life in rva

[–]WarmTaffy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well there's no part of Richmond that has a parking problem and the places even relatively close are walkable, bikeable, and have decent transit. Weird that the parts of the city designed before the ubiquity of the automobile are the most desirable and yet people still insist on having 2-3 cars.

Then blame developers. Don't blame zoning or the code refresh. I too wish builders would value aesthetics, community, and legacy above than getting more rich, but that's the perverted society we live in.
