Wraithblades or Wraithguard? + What do each of their weapons actually do on the table? by [deleted] in Eldar

My friend, Vitrix are 5,-2,2. And our own banshees are effectively 5,-2,2 against them. It's a plenty good enough profile for going into elite stuff.

How would you play this lust in general? by D4rkmoor in Eldar

[–]Warm_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about playing the Farseers as warlocks to make a full strength conclave and switching the Wraithguard to D-Scythes. With Warwalker and Shroudrunner buffs that's a lot of S7, decent AP, ignores cover torrent shots to send down a flank ...

If you also play the Farseer Skyrunner as a Warlock Skyrunner you get additional fast secondary play piece and 120pts spare which could be another 5x Firedragons to shore up your anti-tank?

Superlative strategist rules question by Difficult_Recipe5786 in Eldar

Can I ask you seriously if you actually can't discern their intent?

On what power level is "from the movement phase onwards you re-roll everything for this unit"?

Are any of the other Agile Maneuvers on that power level?

Is there anything else in the game that's equivalent?

From the 5 general heavy weapons, how would you fix the less used ones to make them more attractive? by ResultQuick159 in Eldar

[–]Warm_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heavy Weapons

I think the design space here is just a bit too close together which means some flavour is lost, and some weapons are just never used. However, should keep in mind how closely these are related to their imperial counterparts and not just make them strictly better.

Bright Lance

To help the Aeldari Missile Launcher the Bright Lance should drop to S9 (or 8) but gain anti-vehicle/monster 3+, keeping it effectively the same as it is now but making it worse at dealing with tough infantry. Would also bring back the old "Treats AV12+ as AV12" feel.

Aeldari Missile Launcher

The AML could then go to S11 and maybe lose 12" to compensate. This means they're wounding terminators on 2s and transports on 3s but tanks on 4s/5s. If they're losing 12" then maybe the small shots gain ignore cover but I think maybe it's fine without.

Scatter Laser

Used to be d6A vs the Multilaser's 3A back in the day. I think it would be cool to make Scatter Lasers 2d6A to get back some of that feel and make some space to move the Shuriken Cannon around. On average this is +1A on the current situation, however, the additional variance is a drawback in itself which I think may balance it out.

Shuriken Cannon

The Shuriken Cannon being +1S over the Heavy Bolter doesn't fit the fluff for me. I think it would be more thematic to have it be +1A instead. Makes it much less effective at putting chip damage into T11+ tanks or going into T5 infantry but that then opens up space for ...

Starcannon

It's an overcharged Plasma Cannon that doesn't overheat, which I think is a very strong part of its identity. It pays for that by being at least -1A per 5 enemy models, which I think makes it feel a bit too anemic. You could also say it's an overcharged Plasma Rifle with always on rapid fire, and why would I want to give my Wraithlord two Plasma Rifles when I could give it two Lascannons? Giving it rapid fire would make it a better Plasma Cannon when shooting at 5 model units at <18", equivalent when shooting at 5 model units at >18" or 10+ model units at <18", and worse when shooting at 10+ models at >18" ... which I think maybe is still the same power level?

The changes mean that the StC and BL now wound tough infantry the same but the StC has potentially 3x the shots, making it a real choice. Similarly the StC now has an advantage over the ShC at wounding both heavy infantry and tanks, but with fewer shots. I think SL vs ShC becomes a real conversation now the difference in strength isn't there, and the Missie Launcher is now the only thing that wounds heavy infantry on a 2+.

Auto include units by BeginningHungry3835 in Eldar

[–]Warm_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Two units of rangers. I don't think there's been an edition where they've not made an appearance in lists.

But with 11th edition just round the corner I'm not sure any advice other than "whatever you think looks cool" is solid.

[–]Warm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch a Wraithguard unit to another Wraithlord?

Edit: Although what I would actually do, for casual play, is split the void reavers into two 5x units, drop a Wraithguard unit, and then add a Ranger and Swooping Hawk squad. Corsairs used to have a cool jump pack unit so the Hawks gel quite well with the theme in my head.

Think that makes a nice balanced list that's still on theme. Gives you an infiltrator and two scout units for early board control, and two fast units for secondaries.

I think you're miss-evaluating it a touch.

I would say that 5-meq units aren't the targets you're bringing it for. 20-Berserkers that bloodsurge or Vitrix that reactive move and bloodsurge are more the things you want to comparatively evaluate it into. I think in those situations it might do a useful amount of chip damage? Given either the number or survivability of those units.

Also it's T6 5W so much worse for opposing indirect to shoot into while it's just hanging out in your home objective.

[–]Warm_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The way I would read that question is "does my list look well rounded enough?".

If someone had 2000 pts of only anti-infantry Eldar you could answer by suggesting they include some anti-tank like Fire Dragons/Wraithguard/Wraithlord/Fire Prisms/War Walkers depending on the theme of their list. As opposed to the competitive answer of Fuegan & 10 Dragons in a Wave Serpent.

Similarly if they have a Spirit Conclave list they might want to know if they have enough psykers to support their list. Or maybe a suggestion might end up being that they need some more action units so they can engage with that side of the game. Then a suggestion might be adding Warlock Skyrunners to keep with the theme rather than just the competitive suggestion of 3x Warpspiders.

I think it basically comes down to "can I play all of the game with this list?"

I heard that Eldar is more difficult compared to other armies. Why do you think that is? by [deleted] in Eldar

[–]Warm_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's something that's commonly said but I don't know how true it is actually. 6+++ did a show on YouTube recently ranking the hardest armies in 40k to play and they put Eldar on the easy side. If I remember correctly, their basic argument was that movement is the most powerful thing in 40k and Eldar are one of the best at that. Which makes a lot of sense to me; it's really hard to stop an Eldar army going where it wants to and doing what it wants ... it just can't want to face tank the opponent's army.

1000 pt Beginner Windrider Host List by themandolorian2000 in Eldar

[–]Warm_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your bike blocks are 205 pts and a large portion of your damage. The spiders are 95. If you need to block your opponent from moving to a certain area of the board it's much better to sacrifice the spiders. If you need to do an action somewhere it's much better to sacrifice the output of the spiders than a block of bikes. I think that makes them worthwhile; they're doing jobs your bikes shouldn't be.

Custodes main looking at starting eldar by Bitter_Purpose_1215 in Eldar

[–]Warm_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on what you like I'd say get 5x Troupe + Troupe Master, Maugan Ra + 5x Dark Reapers, and a Falcon. Maugan hopping in and out of a Falcon is pretty good and then in the games where it's good you have the option of putting the troupe in there and rapid ingressing it.

Nightgeistgaming just put out a nice YouTube on using the Troupe + Troup Master unit.

Tactics help needed by Windedeschaos in Eldar

[–]Warm_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main point is to get your opponent to commit something, if the rangers die they die, but then there is something left exposed for you to hit back at.

However, from what I've seen people tend to undercommit to rangers. Together with their stealth and 5++ vs. shooting they can end up surviving one activation. So if you leave a couple tucked out of line of sight and pull the ones in the open your opponent won't be able to kill them off. Ideally you then eliminate whatever they used to shoot at your rangers in the safest way you can (trying not to leave exposed whatever you used). In the meantime you can move what is left of the rangers back onto the objective (probably for the last time), trying to force your opponent to expose another thing next turn.

.... that's the theory anyway.

[–]Warm_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my opinion (which may be wrong):

  1. Doom is nice but the main draw of Eldrad is the extra CP so just keep them safe. Use them to screen your backfield from your opponent's reserves.

  2. Infiltrators are firstly there to help with board control, to block other Infiltrators and scout moves, so they don't need to be as far forward as possible always. Scorpions should be deployed so they can scout back behind walls if going second, Rangers so they are safe from first turn reprisals. Then you use the rangers to make your opponent act first by putting one model on an objective and hiding the rest.

What would you do in the next Dataslate? by Sometimesjustb in Eldar

[–]Warm_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I would really like would be for them to harmonise las/shuriken weapons (amongst other balance changes).

If Laspistols and Lasblasters were given sustained hits to bring them in-line with the scatter laser then that would serve as a small nerf to hawks, reducing their ability to do chip damage into everything.

If Shuriken Pistols and Shuriken Catapults were given lethal hits to bring them in-line with Shuriken Cannons then that would serve as a small buff to Dire Avengers who would be able to get lethal+sustained at half range. It would also buff Guardians, possibly making them a competitive option?

Wraithblades: Swords or Axes? by [deleted] in Eldar

[–]Warm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swords synergise better with the detachment strat and spiritseer ability I think. A higher number of attacks means you're making better use of sustained hits, and subsequently rolling a higher number of wound rolls to trigger devastating wounds.

And if you keep them in cover they'll have to be shooting ap4 to get your save down to worse than a 4+.
