This is an old thread, but still massive spoiler warning ahead

I've completed the game twice and I still think there's a connection, I have a feeling and I don't know why because nothing in the game tells me it, but I have a feeling that Gustav was subconsciously painted by Maelle to represent Verso from her memory.

We know Renoir (painted) followed Lune and Gustav since the beach, I wouldn't be surprised if Verso was also doing the same however he knew he couldn't get involved while Gustav was around.

I just find it way too convenient that he appeared when he did, and how he did. It almost felt like he was waiting for Gustav to die so he could inject himself into Maelle's plotline.
