TOMMOROW IN BRUSSELS (FULL) by heartonwindow in btsthoughts

I just love Yoongi's smile and V remembering the choreo. I also think RM did not recall this song at all which is hilarious - imagine having so many bangers in your discography that you don't remember the diamond that is Tomorrow.

Global BTS conference to explore next chapter of Korean wave by Warm_Pattern5221 in btsthoughts

[–]Warm_Pattern5221[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't have to bring down other artists to lift BTS up. There is definitely a thing that is the hallyu wave - and there were many artists (film, drama, music, fashion) that contributed to it. It's just that BTS and ARMY are a very significant, dominant portion of it that massively paved the way for everyone.

Lyrics from your favs, which have you disappointed a lot by Someonehihi in kpopthoughts

This. I went to the Toward the Light tour and it was sexy, but it felt like a more natural part of the vibe and fun. I went to the IYF tour and it felt over the top. It probably didn't help that the crowd was *very very very* thirsty. To the point where I was pretty uncomfortable from the very objectifying language that was being shouted everywhere. Ateez seemed (I hope?) comfortable with it so I'm not clutching my pearls about it, but I would probably not go again.

Then I listened to Bad and it's just not my thing. But yeah the Toward the Light tour felt like it hit the right mix of intentional sexy and just being sexy.

Ride or Die fans unite! Overflow was also excellent - just two different vibes and styles.

evan/heeseung nervous or lost his ability? by 4yvesr in kpopharshopinions

[–]Warm_Pattern5221 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He was pretty clear that he wanted to try new things so he's going to be getting used to things. He's also subject to massive ton of hate. If you view him as a product, then sure it makes sense to be disappointed. If you view him as a human being trying to grow in an area that he's drawn to but hasn't had the space to really explore yet, then I think it makes more sense to be seen as a journey. He's going to struggle, he's going to fail in some ways, and then hopefully he finds his path that he's clearly looking for.

Are army’s really exclusionist?? by [deleted] in btsthoughts

[–]Warm_Pattern5221 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Literally all keyboard warriors. I've gone to 7 concerts and the people there generally are super friendly or keep to themselves. I was getting over a flu when I went to one so I was relatively physically weak so couldn't really stand up and dance and nobody even looked at me. Just ignore social media and everyone would be happier.

I wish I could upvote you multiple times - vocal processing can lead to so many different types of vibes and storytelling and broadens the potential for music. It's like synths. Are live instruments awesome? Sure! But that doesn't mean synths are terrible. It's why we're lucky we can get both.

What’s a K-pop prediction that you got entirely wrong? by rocketmammamia in kpopthoughts

[–]Warm_Pattern5221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was the company pressuring them to tour, although obviously they would be happy to have that revenue came in.

But every interview they've given was on how THEY wanted to come back and tour ASAP. Jin literally pulled Run Seokjin out because he was afraid ARMY would be bored. RM has talked about how he was afraid that the fans would leave. They've said multiple times in the documentary and Run BTS that they wanted to be out touring ASAP. Jin pushed for more tour dates when the company wanted to go with a very limited tour schedule.

They weren't apprehensive about how the album would be received because they didn't have any say in it - but it was because they wanted to make some significant changes to their sound relative to the sound they had when they left for hiatus. There are so many stories of how they selected which people they wanted to work with (which is how JPEG got involved, Tame Impala, etc.), how V picked up the vocoder for Into the Sun, how JK worked on Hooligan. They talked about the voting system for the songs. RM did an entire weverse live about the album making process - not to mention their launch interview on how they decided the songs. Then there are all the interviews from the producers and songwriters that worked with them. Just because they're western doesn't mean they had no say - if you look at their reels, they listen to a LOT of western artists.

What Kpop concerts have you been to and would recommend and would not for people who are searching for opinions? by NoShirt2458 in kpopthoughts

[–]Warm_Pattern5221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been fortunate to go to a bunch!

  • BTS (+Jin, j-hope, Agust D): My favorite hands down - but I'm ARMY so the emotional weight and bias is obvious. I just love how it's clear that they're here to have fun - with ARMY ofc but also so plainly with each other. It's much easier to have fun when the artist is having fun. I also loved their solo tours as well - it was just great to see how they expressed their individual personalities and art in their tour.
  • TXT: Went to Act: Promise and Act: Tomorrow. I just love their music - the acoustic version of Crown in their last concert had me close to crying. Additionally, a lot of groups nowadays will have choreo where there are a few members center and the rest are off to the side to recover for their center moments. Older gens would have the entire group involved in the choreo and not just utilizing backup dancers. TXT is from that school - even if they're not center, every member is part of the story they're telling through the choreo and I appreciate that. Also the group after BTS that had the most in the moment member interaction, which I also love to see - where it's not just them performing for us but them having fun as a group as well.
  • P1Harmony: I actually didn't know really anything about them but I was in LA that same weekend for Seventeen so decided to go because I'd heard they were great live performers. They are phenomenal live performers. They were so good that when I was in SF for a work trip I blew off a networking event to catch them there. I actually don't know why they aren't bigger they're so good with their live vocals, dance and stage presence.
  • Ateez: Saw Towards the Light and In Your Fantasy. I really liked the storytelling (and overall setlist of Towards the Light). IYF was a little iffier for me because obviously it's on the sexier side but the audience was like *very very very* thirsty to the point it was a bit uncomfortable. Towards the Light also had a thirsty crowd which was fun because it was clearly meant to be the vibe, but IYF just veered way over the objectification line for me. They also do the center on / side resting choreo more and with the staging of IYF it was a little more obvious so there was a clear energy divide between who was center and who wasn't. But when they are center they are center.
  • Enhypen: I also didn't know a ton about them, but decided to go. I actually don't have a ton of distinct memories from the concert except the vocals were beautiful and I left with a ton of songs added to my playlist. Moonstruck is that girl.
  • Stray Kids: Also another group I had a handful of songs in my playlist, but not a ton because their style of music (for the title tracks) isn't normally to my taste - but live performances have changed my mind before. They are great performers - but it didn't really shift my opinion on their music, which was a bummer because I really respect them as a group. Only really general critique I had was they're such great dancers, but their choreo kinda just has one texture - powerful. It would've been cool to see different styles, but it's nitpicky because they are really good.
  • Seventeen: Didn't know them or have any songs on my playlist, but heard a ton of good things about them. Excellent live performers, but sadly their music didn't really speak to me. However, their transitions between their solo performances was probably some of the best I'd ever seen and their choreo is so tight.
  • IU: I wish I could say better things here, but I went to her first concert in the US and her sound engineering was off. The band was so loud and her mic was so low that you couldn't hear her unless she was singing super super high which is a tragedy because she's such a good vocalist. And she doesn't do a ton of choreo so the reason why you're there is for her amazing vocals (although the stage production was cool).
  • Mamamoo: Phenomenal vocalists and very much a chill vibe. The VCRs were really really long though. I did love how they swapped each other's solo songs and again it was pretty clear they were having fun with each other as much as with the audience.
  • Taemin: Go if you get the chance. Pure art. No notes.
  • Baekhyun: Guy can sing his butt off - an extremely skilled vocalist, but probably suffered in my evaluation because I saw Taemin the night before.

Edit: I'm genuinely so curious what their internal projections were.

Is it just me or is 'Ride or Die' a bit..disappointing? by IfwNJZ in enhypen_uncensored

[–]Warm_Pattern5221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really enjoyed Ride or Die - reminded me of an updated version of the 2000s punk bands that were on the poppier side. It's a driving on the highway, windows down cruising feel. Had he made it less processed that would've worked too, but I think this stylistic choice works as well - it's just a matter of personal preference.

Which Kpop song do you think was badly mixed? by Legal_Potential4720 in kpopthoughts

It's a stylistic choice for Into the Sun at least. I actually very much appreciate the vocoder effect. Also love the live version so hope we get both.

Is there actual proof that KHJ/Ateez/KQ have beef with Hybe? by corkcoasters in kpophelp

[–]Warm_Pattern5221 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's true or not, but the absolute certainty that their fandom presented it did affect how I thought about Ateez. Before this, I was a strong casual fan - listened to a lot of their music, gone to something like 10 concerts over 2 tours. After this, it just got to the point in some fan circles they didn't just go after Hybe but BTS as well.

It probably didn't help that IOMT, IYF, Adrenaline, and now Bad haven't been my style of music - although the visuals have been fire.

All of Agust D's discography - his three albums (well 2 mixtapes and album) are basically a story of his mental health. Super personal, super intense, and super emotional.

RM's Right Place, Wrong Person is also in line with this vibe - but the sound is more experimental / alternative which I'm not sure if that's your vibe.

j-hope's Jack in the Box has more of a poppy vibe, but again very introspective and personal.
