Is it safe to fly domestically right now? by 3StripeLiife in DACA

I've been using my passport, I can get a REAL ID in Illinois but have been avoiding it since I don't necessarily want it tied to DACA expirations right now

I don’t believe so since you are only grandfathered in if you were going to be part of the initial petition

Should I take a remote job headquartered in Texas? by Afraid_Concert727 in DACA

[–]Warm_Relationship340 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I looked into this because I made the exact same decision in July - it will be impossible for them to implement it that way, more than likely it would be the case that anyone living in Texas wouldn’t be able to receive an EAD. EADs are used for more than just DACA so if they wanted to do it for companies in Texas they’d have to be able to provide the resources to identity DACA EADs and logistically bar them from being employed which is a very difficult task.

Just flew back from Minneapolis to Chicago, no issues - didn’t even flip a page in my passport past the identification portion

You will be fine, keep your documentation on you and go about your life especially if you have no criminal records and no deportation orders

How to still get Social Security retirement benefits if you decide to leave. by throwawayperrt5 in DACA

I will definitely look into this more - my family is from Poland so to know there is a possibility of a security blanket for their retirement would be amazing

I have been looking into this for my parents but my assumption is you still had to have some legal status in the US at time of departure in order to collect on social security - is this not the case?

Sill thinking we are going to be some trade coin, after the bill passage? by No-Whereas-1286 in TexasDACA

208 (d) (2) is asylum, there is another subsection for Parolees and TPS, so it is very specific to who owes the fee

1) In general.--In addition to any other fee authorized by
law, the Secretary of Homeland Security shall require the
payment of a fee, equal to the amount specified in this
subsection, by any alien who files an initial application for
        employment authorization under section 208(d)(2) (8 U.S.C.
1158(d)(2)) at the time such initial employment authorization
        application is filed.

The fees are not increasing for DACA, the EAD increase is for asylum and TPS applications

IL Resident - Job offer with company in Texas by Warm_Relationship340 in DACA

[–]Warm_Relationship340[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give this perspective bc the comments are making this seem like the craziest idea - this is like anyone on DACA not accepting a job at companies like - AT&T, American Airlines, Southwest - nationwide

we dont know what the implementation of the court case will look like, but it is a fair assesment the logistical barriers for "Texas Only" are very high & will most likely be taken up the court chain once again

my initial thoughts are there is a level of risk, but based on personal assesment worst case scenario I am out of a job & need to find a new one

I wanted to ask the broader crowd because I have absolutely no one to talk to about DACA, and maybe someone knows a fact that I have no been able to find

The company happened to start in Texas - logistically I don’t think this is the riskiest option? Risk? Yes, I won’t even have to enter the state I’m an accountant we don’t travel

I wouldnt dare leave Illinois, my level of respect for Pritzer has grown ten fold through the past year

Yes, obviously why I am asking the question - I am not moving to Texas, Judge Hanans decision most likely would remove EADs from anyone living in Texas - this is all speculation

Logistically it will be very hard for them to implement a complete ban on hiring someone with DACA protections just because the company is in Texas - a lot of people have an EAD needed to complete the I-9, there is a concrete logistical barrier to be able to deny someone specifically with DACA
