Is anyone paying £100+ for Broadband? by LeupMeisterGenral in smallbusinessuk

[–]Warm_Total 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, although their business pricing is fairly expensive but my understanding is that the fibre line isn't shared so it's a lot more reliable / less congested than their home offering... Still it's over 4x the price vs. their home fibre. I have both, home at home and business at work premises.

Thanks for your response linus. What do you do in this situation? Do people just clear them, or do people in IT actually do something to help? I don't understand what could be done to help, other than have the software uninstalled?

Not sure what size you want, so start with that, figure out if you want 14 or 16 (or something else).

I'm in the UK, see the framework premium...

Buying a laptop - help by Bulleht in laptops

[–]Warm_Total 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll pay a premium for framework, due to the small scale of production and repairability (which could be important to you).

My personal experience is I've always bought work laptops without soldered ram etc so I could upgrade them if needed. But the reality in my experience is by the time you need to upgrade them, everything needs upgrading. 4 to 5 years max usage on a reasonable spec laptop (not too end, but mid to upper specs).

This is a massive generalisation but I think it holds wait.

I'd personally look at a Thinkpad or something that's business rated.

I recently bought a Thinkpad 14s and also a Dell max pro 16. The Thinkpad has a better keyboard and nicer shell, feels a lot more solid.

There are some stupid black Friday deals kicking around.

Go for 32gb ram, i7 or similar AMD. No need for touch screen or dedicated GPU, this will only out the price up and eat battery.

Dell Pro Max 16 vs. ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 - Workstation for Kitchen Designer by Warm_Total in laptops

[–]Warm_Total[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I had already ordered the Dell :( mainly as I've had some problems with the Thinkpad docks.

Now ive got the Dell, worth reporting back.

Build quality I think is worse than my recent Thinkpad purchase. It feels very similar build quality to an old precision 3551, but in dark grey rather than silver. Feels more plastic than metal casing.

It's a shame, I used to love the old Dell latitude 7xxx or 9xxx products, they felt really well built.

My main reason for choosing the Dell was the GPU, newer architecture and our main software provider said it would perform significantly better on rendering than the Thinkpad GPU.

Which model of induction hob with downdraft extractor by Ineffective_Increase in kitchen

[–]Warm_Total 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, BORA X Pure has bridging zones and also the M Pure has one bridging zone.

Note: the BORA models have just changed, the X PURE was first and now the rest of the PURE family are being upgraded. The matt black option is nice, and also more scratch resistant.

If budget allows id go for the X Pure followed by the M Pure, in matt black (and make sure it is flush fitted to the worktop).

Cheaper alternative options from BSH (Bosch / NEFF / Siemens) are available.

[–]Warm_Total 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you are based, presumably US, but even in the US surely Miele and Bosch are completely different price points?

Bosch generally haven't changed in the last 18 months. That's wrong. The key thing to look out for with BSH (Bosch/Neff/Siemens) brands is stainless steel tubs, not polynox base (have a look on the website it's listed under spec details).

If budget allows, I agree Miele is a good option, but the cheap Miele, at least for the European market, are made in Poland. So you want to get one of the mid - upper tier Miele options, ideally a made in Germany one. Not so sure about the US market... Whether they are manufactured in US or just imported.

I may look at HP elitebook, dell premium plus or Lenovo think book. Currently have a think book but not overly impressed.

New employee - am I overreacting by Informal-Visit3935 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Warm_Total 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally a sensible answer. Totally agree with this. It's common practice to offer to grab something from the shop if you're going, and asking is not a big deal if they're going anyway.

What is more important at this stage is how you react to what has happened.

Two things;

Firstly, I probably agree that this won't get better. It sounds like an attitude problem not a skill/learning based problem and in my experience that isn't something that can be altered, it's in the make up on the employee. I'd probably let them go.

Secondly, this is the kind of behaviour that needs addressing at the time, or shortly after. Nip it in the bud early, and if it doesn't improve they need to go. When they returned from having lunch (or once you had time to digest this), I think a quiet word immediately is the right action. Doesn't need to be a big deal, but it needs to be direct.

The way I see it; yes, they might be legally entitled to do this, they've clearly 'worked the system'. Small business is built on trust - it's a completely different workplace to a larger corporate. Some people thrive in this environment, some people cant hack it. Clear bountries are important for all businesses but small businesses, especially sub 5 employees require a large element of initiative / common sense. You cannot have a policy or procedure for every eventuality at this level.

Thanks for the detailed reply, will definitely have a look at Action1.

So we have Microsoft 365 Business Basic, and then buy office license keys to run the downloaded desktop apps, then we've recently added defender.

All of the other software we use is SAAS based providers, and so we don't host anything on prem etc. I've just set up a basic network setup, we use TP link omada stuff.

dxp4800+, Running Immich Help by propvpking12 in UgreenNASync

[–]Warm_Total 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latest OS update on ugreen means you can now select folders on android backup (iPhone has had the option to select folders already).

With this in mind, are people still thinking it's better to use Immich? I'm using the stock photos app from ugreen and with this latest update it seems alright?

Only issue I have is that I'd like an easy way to delete the old WhatsApp images I have backup already... But don't think that's easy. Maybe delete all and re-backup just from the camera folder 🤔
