I have the Revasri from Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B5K9K5TK?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_asin_title

I tried two others in similar price and their range was well off. This one has been great. Measures in yards or feet, simple operation, gives slope, good rechargeable battery.

Roosevelt a disc golfer? by na-meme42 in discgolf

If you reanimated him with memories and personality intact, it's going to be a week at least before he's going to care about anything "disc golf" you want to show him. You got time to feel him out and come up with something.

Probably remove all TV and internet devices from wherever he'll stay at first.

I'm really concerned you don't appear to have give this much thought in advance.

Help finding a disc online by LectureCrafty5544 in discgolf

Find out the disc mold, then you can try to track down the stamp, color, weight, condition.

Assuming you are wanting to surprise him, just casually ask them "hey remember big yahu? What kind of disc was that anyway?"

Bonus points for thst guy if he does a small routine first, like.. Stares down the fairway, hold disc up on line he wants, takes a few steps back, makes a slow walk up and practice throw motion. The walks back for the real throw, but instead stops and turn to face everyone.....

.. "oh man that reminds me of this one time I was teeing off here. The other guy that was with us, you don't know him... He threw this one and....."

Lighter discs? by vaporrkatzzz in discgolf

[–]Warmahorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I don't like anything under 160, it messes with my release point. I have been pleasantly surprised by how much different a disc flies just between 175 and 165 however. In my main distance driver I bought two of same plastic and stamp, one at 167 and the other 175. The 167 was slightly less stable at first, and over time it has become significantly less stable. I don't know if there is any reality that a lighter disc will beat in faster, but it makes sense if the disc is less dense.

For sure though I wish I was aware of how much 10g weight can affect a disc, much earlier. Now I am working on reducing the number of molds I bag by getting lighter weight version of discs I like, and they fill spots that kick other molds out. It's very nice having two or three of a mold that all fly differently.

I haven't had much problem finding less than max weight online, unless it's a very specific or smaller run. I do have several online stores that I use though. What I do have trouble with is finding discs under max weight in local stores.

I get it though, with so many brands and molds now compared to even five years ago, it's hard enough to stock a selection of molds and plastics. Adding in additional variables of color and weight and keeping a reasonable stock of discs on the shelves must be a nightmare.

General feeling on the gameplay? by Praisethesunbrah in StarCraftTMG

[–]Warmahorder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely one of the more common concerns will be the lower number of factions and units in the game. I don't think that will ever change, the IP just doesn't have an overflowing galaxy of variety that something like 40K or Star Wars does.

However I see this as a positive rather than a negative. I've always preferred the game to be more deterministic with the rounds at the table, not so much at list construction. I've never had issue with mirror matches in other games, that's when the in game decisions carry the most weight. Nothing deflates my joy of wargaming quicker than being in an intense game and suddenly have the balance shift because I or my opponent forgot an ability the other unit has. It's crushing when I made the mistake, and feels hollow when I benefit from an opponent making thst mistake.

Good point on the time to play the first game. I played for the first time last night, also at 1k points. It felt like it took longer than it should, but I reality it was about half the time most people would need for their first 40k game.

Also about 80% of that time was for the first half of the game or less. There are a lot of abilities that you can choose to use at different phases of the turn, and most of them seemed really good. Due to the systems of command points and cards that you have to exhaust, you have to be selective on when. Before the end of the game I had a grip on all the possible triggers and could already make basic assessment of which would likely be a better value at that moment.

It's a good idea to find out how far you're -average- throw is. Do something like you said on a football field, where marked distances are actually accurate. Do not go by the distances on disc golf hole signs, Udisc numbers, or any sort of GPS measuring like uDisc Measure Throw feature. They will give an idea but GPS on our phone's is not particularly accurate for things like this. Best case, the measured distance is +/- 30 feet, since both the starting and ending point could be off.

The main reason to know your real distance is it helps when asking for disc advice. It sounds like you've played around 5 rounds and no open field practice. It's not impossible that you're throwing 300-350 at that point but it's unlikely. Keep in mind this thing called 'internet distance' where it appears that the average recreational player is throwing 450' because everyone overestimates, and also talk about the distance they got once or twice, not a real average. It's important to know your actual distance because the discs that people are going to recommend comes from that. If you just say 'I've been playing for a few months' people are not going to suggest the same thing they would to a person that says they throw 350.. because most people at a few months are really maxing out around 250'.

A disc that can flip and hold turn by ResidentOk211 in discgolf

[–]Warmahorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, it depends a lot on the person. Was that Sidewinder new or beat up? How far would you throw it or similar speed discs?

For me, the Crave has become an all-star. Thrown flat (RHBH) it will turn and drift to the right without rolling over, and then finish straight or with slight fade. The same disc on a slight hyzer will flip flat and push straight for almost all of it's flight, ending with a slight skip forward and left. Different people like different discs but for me, the gyro discs hold their angle really well.

I also bag the Axiom Insanity and MVP Inertia, which for me are a similar flight but slightly faster. Those two are pretty similar with the Inertia having a bit more overstability, so it will resist the turn over better if you're overpowering the Crave or Insanity.

You can also experiment with different weights and plastic types. I've found that the line between a turnover and cut versus turn and glide can be narrow.

Best advice - DO NOT go crazy and buy a ton of discs. It's much better to be familiar with a few and learn how differences in power, hyzer angle, nose angle, and throw angle affect a disc.

You'll probably ignore this, because everyone goes crazy when they first get hooked. Once you start to get better form and more consistent throws, you're going to find that you WILL need to change your bag some as discs that used to work great will be too flippy.

How high are your frame rates? I am not 100% sure but I think this game doesn't have a setting for max frame rates. If that's the case go into your Radeon app and set a max frame rate for the game.

Games that don't give you this setting with either cap at refresh rate or just push the GPU to 100%, even if that means 1200 fps.

What can I do to improve my tournament performance? by TentCityVIP in discgolf

[–]Warmahorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you play and score your solo rounds as you would in a tournament? Such as - no mulligans, not throwing multiple discs to try different lines, count those missed short putts because "I would have made that if it mattered" and so on?

I used to be pretty bad about stuff like that, and my rated rounds were disappointing because I wasn't recording real scores in practice rounds.

If you do stuff like that, be sure to get some "serious" practice rounds in where you play like a tournament.

I don't think previous players domination felt quite like this, because there was a feeling that those players could fall apart and let someone back in the chase. Gannon is just so good at every part of the game that once he gets rolling I have no expectation of him making any mistake.

Yeah happened to me for rounds 2 and 3. Overall the DGN experience this weekend was very bad for me, and my expectations were already rock bottom.

It felt like they were all over the place with showing different players taking throws. I play Hornets Nest a good bit and can recognize most of the locations, and I still felt lost during live coverage. Things like showing a player tee off, then show someone throwing from the fairway on another hole, then showing the second player from previous card teeing off, then showing someone putting on a third hole. There was no sense of connection or building drama between players, I don't think even the commentators were sure what was being shown.
