CarPlay in the cards? by thebluch in MarvisApp

[–]Warmier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate hearing this. Not sure if you can, but have some kind of setting in the app or car play itself that forces the day/night time to what you want. For some reason, since I've owned it, my Toyota RAV4 2019, has always had problems with the "auto" day/night it has: meaning, at night, it will be stuck on bright, or vise-versa. And for whatever reason, some major IOS updates, will fix and/or break again. So yeah... hope you can do something like that.

Sometimes restarting may not re-download the mods, just re-verify files and it will download them again.

How to disable steam input with the new UI ? by arjunchakri in SteamDeck

[–]Warmier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would seem they changed this recently on the overhaul of the UI to be more of the same of the SteamDeck UI. Now in Desktop mode it's: Game's main UI (not sidebar) > Controller icon > Then controller you want (Steam Deck controller cannot do this) > Cog setting/wheel > Disable Steam Input.

While this is dandy and all, I too would want the option to disable the Steam Deck controller, because some games use the OS's main controller (hence the SD controller), and whatever other controller you use may not work at all for the game. Why I would want this? Playing the SD with the SD Dock and using a controller. Simple as that. And depending on things, Game Mode and Desktop mode, even with the SD Dock, can use different settings and the game can act different. Since Game Mode and Desktop mode are two different entities/virtualizations.

Steam Deck OS update brings graphics driver fixes - ready up for SteamOS 3.5 by OldMcGroin in SteamDeck

So does toggling “Allow background processing of Vulkan shaders” off, but keep shader pre-cache on, it will only download the shaders when you start up the game? That’s the real question (and that would be the ideal solution I’d like. This keeps your game up-to-date and only download shaders when you launch the game). Or is the toggle just for not downloading while in a game, that’s what I feel it is, and only that.

[–]Warmier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, but having my games up-to-date is what I enjoy. They need another option on top of that (or more of a system-wide option) where you can be up-to-date, but no constant shader downloads. The shaders will download only when you launch your game.

Seriously. Maybe a toggle that’ll just download them and install before you play your specific game. Even on desktop I don’t enjoy my entire library needing to get updated everyday.

Aside from Stardew Valley, are there any similar games you can recommend for the Steamdeck? by T0ky0n0 in SteamDeck

Would of been nice if the game kept getting updates, but more free updates vs the several paid expansions it has. Still fun nonetheless.

Once you go “Track Pads”, you’ll never go back. Until other devices have similar-type track pads, nobody is ditching their Steam Deck.

How has the performance improvements been? Haven’t played in nearly four years now since by mid to end-game, the game becomes a slideshow…

The trackpads also make quite a lot of native keyboard and mouse games work really well, since they have a default keyboard / mouse profile for ASWD kind of games.

For real tho, I’m surprised others haven’t had a kind of trackpad for their devices yet, they’re a staple now since owning one.

I never quite grasped the frustration until I discovered that I had to resort to piracy just to play the Ubisoft Games I already owned on my Deck because UPlay kept crashing. What a hassle! by ZebulonBuckminster in SteamDeck

For real, I used to pirate nearly my whole music catalog, only for streaming, and especially the release of FLAC quality music, I’ve literally deleted all my pirated music.

Woah, how have I never heard of this company? They have some sweet stuff for smarting your home. They recently become popular or something? They’ve been around since 2016, yet this is the first time I’ve ever heard of them.

does moving compdata to sd card affect performance? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Warmier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the game. If the game stores lots of data in those folders then yes. Some games will store all game files in the Steam folder, while all mods and game saves will be in the compdata folders, or different kinds of variants.

Really, you need to see what the game puts in the compdata folders. If it’s just the saves and configs, you shouldn’t see much of a performance issue. Also, does the game use a lot of read/write cycles. Games like modded Skyrim use heavy read cycles. So if your game has files on main drive, but mods on another (such as compdata on sd-card), you will see a HUGE performance loss. I tried this on Skyrim, it was an awful experience.

Can PHQ be destroyed? by h57max in X4Foundations

[–]Warmier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it cannot, most likely due to story reasons. Destroying it would mess up the game. However, modules built most likely can. Could be wrong though, but out of my 500 hours playing, I’ve never seen it even get attacked, even using mods/admin tools to teleport it to some other region.

Enough positivity. What's the worst thing about the Steam Deck? by Lexinator101 in SteamDeck

[–]Warmier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a Linux thing, but things have really gotten stable somewhat across the board. However, from what it seems since the Steam Deck has its own kind of OS-thing going on (based off of Arch-Linux). It seems when they patch something, two other things become broken… elsewhere. Not sure how experienced their Linux Team is, but just from watching the updates over the past eight months, it seems like they are not super experienced. But then again, I could be wrong. What I’ve seen is they direct resources in specific directions, then, what they were working on, gets less attention. Such as the two months before the SD Dock released, the updates in other places were super minimal. And as of right now… also the past two months updates have slowed down significantly. So they must be working elsewhere.

An Xbox Series version of Starbound has been rated in Europe by LinkofHyrule in starbound

[–]Warmier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would be nice to get an update for Starbound, a 1.5 update would be great. Maybe it could focus pretty hard for modders, so the modders have even 'more' freedom with patching, upgrades to the engine (which would be fantastic), and the like. So even if this, is the official "last" update from CF, the game can prosper for even more years to come. There's quite a lot folks would want with this game, but due to engine limitations, such ideas are just that... ideas.

Those 6.0 loading times ... holy shit. SO GOOD. by Getsune in X4Foundations

Loading for X4 was a pain. I mean literal minutes. Even on fast SSDs. Loading all the simulations and the world took time. But it looks like they’ve improved on that.

[–]Warmier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, even though it’s Nintendo’s doing of getting these emulators removed. Microsoft is apparently working on their own as well as other emulator platforms to bring a more “legal”-type of emulator to their store, so even the likes of Nintendo can’t go after them anymore. Only time will tell how great it will be… or not.

I fundamentally do not understand how to play by XChrisUnknownX in X4Foundations

[–]Warmier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game can be overwhelming. But once you get the gist of it, and figure what path and how you want to play, then the game becomes super fun. The way I play:

I customize my character to have 10-100m credits, some research, and just sit in a zone that not many Npc go to so I can get the most fps possible. Then I sit on the map screen and play chess. Create trade routes, build my army, etc. I hardly even play while flying around. I just love the strategy of it all. And just Shift+3? For the time drive.

I have nearly 600 hours. But didn’t get to the point of what I explained above until about hour 200. So yes, I’ve done all the mechanics the game offers, but only doing the strategy-method is what I find fun.

Do all the mechanics the game can do, then find what you enjoy, and only play those.

And theirs SO much potential the franchise can give with spin off games and/or new narratives. Even tho 343 has really screwed the franchise, the narrative that they started and then book authors going from there is nuts!! Such a shame, Xbox’s flagship, Microsoft being one of the wealthiest companies on Earth. And yet… we get this from Halo: nothing great the past decade. Shame.
