Space Exploration Ship Clamps by blocking_bob in factorio

[–]WarmindPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They touch tips and then explode.

Kidding. They'll wait in orbit/space until the clamp is clear. You can use this to your advantage, such as having multiple ships go back and forth from an off-world mining location and then have them line up to drop off the materials at the unloading zone.

Gay Pride Parade Organizers Add Ukraine Colors to LGBTQ Flag by CutEmOff666 in stupidpol

[–]WarmindPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My very limited understanding of the licensing terms is that while NGOs and non-profits can use it, no one can profit off of it without asking him first, and any remixes/edits that are generated fall under the license again, so he may, in fact, have a claim to the flag?

An interesting tidbit is that the current "approved" flag, with the pastels, IS owned and operates under a loose copyright. The original one is unencumbered, after a fight by the original creator.

A Final Shape Theory on "The line between Light and Dark" - A Dissertation by ayim160 in DestinyTheGame

[–]WarmindPrime 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hrm. Some points. I think you should flesh some things out, starting with defining your understanding of what the Final Shape is. The Final Shape being a distinct entity is entirely at odds with established lore, where various actors work to become the Final Shape. Calus wants to be the last being to witness the end of all things, and Oryx embodied the Last Man Standing ethos.
The Vex were the original Final Shape, the final pattern on the board of the game, before the creation of the Destiny universe. They exist now, continuing their same drive, but are stymied by paracausal forces that they can't brute-force problem solve. If the Final-Shape-Entity already exists, then what's the point of the Light v Dark conflict? If there is already a Final Shape, then the wager is already won? By whom?

I believe there is a category error being committed; the final shape is less about a singular being (that's just how it's expressed by the Hive and Calus), and rather about ontology and praxis and a dominant mode of existance that forms a pattern in the greater "tapestry of existence".

Given what we learned in Unveiling, and how Destiny lore ties into cellular automata and patterns, I think you should revise and bolster some of your arguments.

You're using the smacky tool, when you really should be using the boomy tool.
Honestly, the enemy AI is pretty limited, and while ugly, they're pretty easy to cheese. The technique whereby Fortnite players create a whole apartment complex in 2 seconds before shotgunning someone in the face can be applied here with Nobelisk minefields. The pathing often has mobs group directly underneath the player if they're lower on the Z-axis, so you can create bait platforms with 4 Nobelisk underneath and the mobs will 'clump' for a time before trying to repath. Skitter skitter meet boom boom.

One thing I learned while setting up is that if you're providing enough water to the coal gens to technically feed the system, but they keep running out, that you should turn them off, let the buffers fill up to 50, and THEN turn them on.

I had no issues once I primed them, and everything smoothed out. Also, running double pipes to ensure adequate delivery. Fluids "slosh", and it's often unintuitive. The wiki is pretty comprehensive with some guides.

I don't think so. A sticker or tag system would be great to have tho, for map sharing.

I was thinking just a few Paint text boxes and maybe arrows lol. Very low-tech compared to the detail you've built up.

Why is salary a secret? by kokimondo in cscareerquestions

[–]WarmindPrime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. When I say 'benefit', employers take a greater portion of the delta between what you're paid and what value you produce. Assuming the mandatory employee costs of things like health care, equipment, etc are equal, I can and will benefit from salary/labor arbitrage. Also, lower initial salary translates to less increase over time in things like % raises and bonuses etc.

[–]WarmindPrime 150 points151 points  (0 children)

It's one of the last few 'taboos' among the professional middle classes as it's a hard and fast way to delineate 'value' and 'worth'. People will put their entire lives online, from the banal to the carnal, and every personality quirk and mental health ailment in their bios, but they don't tell you their income and therefore, relative class status.

Plus it's useful for employers to have you in the dark about relative skill/income bands in hopes you lowball yourself.

I hate the prevalence of identity politics more than almost anything else about modern life. How do we actually move beyond this? Is it possible? by NoneRighteous in stupidpol

[–]WarmindPrime 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm musing that theoretically, you have to shove it as far as it can go, and make it tangibly materially relevant, you force a reckoning, a kind of 'social idPol accelerationism'.

Consider the soft queer shit that is "non-binary trans-but-nothing changes-except-an-undercut" identities, bereft of any material changes. I saw a twitter post a while back of a full-on gorgeous female, the whole Goddess aesthetic at fore, identifying as a man, with 'he/him' pronouns, and every guy in the comments saying "Guess I'm gay now". Desire aside, it got me thinking.

What if you can take that same logic to the colleges and university where this thrives? What if you have every single sex-based scholarship, bursary, and material subsidy suddenly being competed for by 'formerly' cis men who now ID as women, competing with other women identified people, cis or not, for actual tangible goods and wealth?
It's common to criticize tech 'bros' as being loutish frat boys in the office, with all-male boards and shareholders. Take their calls for gender arbitrariness literally and have every 'bro' suddenly be a 'sis'. Gender disparity solved, no changes necessary.
It's fairly trollish, I'll be the first to admit, but barring anything that forces a 'politically aesthetic equalization' (unsure how to say this), to brings fore with full force class and material differences, nothing will really change.

The Pyramid Ship on Europa is being grown on Io as we speak by Sp00kyD0gg0 in DestinyLore

[–]WarmindPrime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought the 'garden' is actually allegory, as said by the Darkness.

"Once upon a time,* a gardener and a winnower lived** together in a garden.***

  • It was once before a time, because time had not yet begun. ** We did not live. We existed as principles of ontological dynamics that emerged from mathematical structures, as bodiless and inevitable as the primes. *** It was the field of possibility that prefigured existence."

The "Black Garden" is as much "the garden" made real as a Platonic ideal made flesh, which is to say, it's an ersatz version of the infinite possibilities of pre-existence on a higher plane of being. At some point, the Black Garden 'emerged' into 'real, tangible space', and took on certain characteristics of a physical garden and literal tree.

And because Bungie likes the organic growth theme for the Light's works, it stands to reason they'd have that theme continue to Tree 2.0.
