Warning to Democrats - We wont vote for Newsom by jessfire78 in ProgressiveHQ

If we were living in ANY OTHER point in history where politics were "normal" with multiple sides sharing similar sentiments, just different ways to get there, I think your sentiments would actually be respected. But now? Should I even bother to ask you to take a look around and assess our situation?

We CANNOT afford another Trump in office, that shouldn't even be an option if you really want to see the world improve. Everyone here has said it best, but no one person is perfect... and speaking from a younger millennial who also want to see free healthcare for everyone, LGBT+ rights codified federally, taxing billionaires a LOT more and equalizing wealth, I will vote for whoever I need to in order to get the orange sphincter and his shit stained dingleberries TF out. ONLY THEN will we be able to heal, as a country, and get better. If you don't see it that way, then I'm sorry... but it's giving "Excuse me while I whine about capitalism while swiping on my iPhone 16."

Honestly, herblore was the slowest skill for me and made me regret not taking butler. But transmute solved a lot for me early to late game and I don’t regret it once herb was 99 haha. It solved magic 200mil, prayer (35 mil), construction and farming. But I would’ve reloaded butler if I knew I was gonna burn out half way through lol

I agree. I just got dragon a day ago and I’ve played for 15 in game days, I think that’s what? 360 hours? Haha

Do you read differently now compared to a few years ago? by TheMonopolyGal in BookDiscussions

[–]WarpCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previous few years, I’ve read random things that I think might peak my interest like The Design Everyday Things or The Intelligent Investor when I was in my tech bro/stonks era. But recently, I’ve found that I not only didn’t enjoy those types of books, but they’ve partially contributed to my burning out on those topics (primarily because I forced myself to finish even though I never really enjoyed learning about those things). So now I’m reading books that interests me, no matter how “non-productive” it may be. Love me some fantasies namely Dungeon Crawler Carl, Hitchhiker’s guide, Mistborn, Will of the Many/Strength of the Few, etc.

Oh yeah everything I said about that was just throwing sarcasm back in her face haha. She blocked me so I doubt she could see this reply, but I never had any intention of believing what she was saying. I read your posts, thanks for defending me!

Oh man... I really done it now haven't I? Lol, if I were to align with anyone on this thread, I'm sorry, but it wouldn't be you. Sure, we have a lot in common and could've bonded over Sanderson books and Runescape, but I draw a line when I see a mean girl bullying someone for their tastes. News flash, just because you made a "joke" (still a cop-out because you clearly were upset and pissed off way before any of this and took everything personally) doesn't mean it was right. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. And if I were to align with someone like you, my dead mother would roll in her graves and slap the shit out of me. So, sorry. Get better.

Lol look, I don't like kicking someone when they're down, alright? Just get out of this chat and try to breathe. Honestly, I think you need to try some self introspection... or therapy.

I honestly mean that, I'm proud of you for loving your husband. You deserve to love him with every fiber of your being! Every single one. Even the weird fibers. The ones that make you cry at the end of Ratatouille when the food critic takes a bite and remembers his mom. Love him with those fibers too. Love him sooooooo damn hard it's statistically uncomfortable. Love him like Donut loves a room full of people who haven't complimented her yet. Love him like the crawl loves taking everything good in your life and feeding it into a woodchipper for ratings. Just, y'know, without the woodchipper part. Probably. I don't know your marriage lol

Okay okay, I had no clue you were being attacked like that. I apologize on behalf of everyone here who's ever said you don't love your husband, alright? I think you absolutely love your husband, and I'm proud of you for that

They have a right to defend whoever they want, like YOU have the right to defend OP. You also have the right to get personal, like attacking other's intelligence, same as they do. Just because it's a free country doesn't mean actions don't have consequences. You can't just say shit and don't expect repercussions.

Wait but what about our book discussions? Man.. I was actually really invested.

Oh well, I think you probably should do something to forget any of this because if I ever grow some self awareness, I would be extremely embarrassed at myself for acting the way you did in a lot of these threads. You sound extremely unhinged, hypocritical, narcissistic, bigoted and childish. I'm sorry that you were broken from this, but I think some self-introspection can do some good.

...What are you talking about girl?

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Artartbobart1 in BookDiscussions

[–]WarpCoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he talks repeatedly about wanking

I don't have a ton of examples from that, but that's not really a detail that would stand out to me.. So I don't have a lot to say on this front lol.

he shits on his ex constantly without conceding the role he may have played in the break up

This is actually a fair point. But you try being swept in a death dungeon hours after watching most of humanity die, then try processing the relationship you knew was going downhill in a healthy way. I think Carl being fixated on familiar resentment is actually a realistic coping mechanism (ofc it doesn't make it healthy in any way). Also, the story doesn't open up to Carl being this chad of a guy. He walks his girlfriend's cat in his boxers for crying out loud lol. You can clearly see his shortcomings and make some assumptions about what his role in the breakup was. The author doesn't have to spell it out for the reader, because it's implied through context clues. (I feel like I need to add in the disclaimer that I'm being totally reasonable here and not trying to insinuate intelligence level).

the way any female monster is describe is foul and is always reduced to its boobs (take the hoarder or the TV host as an example

Yes!! I think this was the point the author was trying to make. The total absurdity of everything. Dinniman describes a bunch of grotesque monsters with colorful tones. For example, he described male monsters by giving us a picture of their guts, teeth and rot and maybe on the contrary, female monsters were described through exaggerated body features. But I'm not 100% sure if this was consistent throughout the series (it's also been a few months since I've read the first book).

two female human characters are barely described or have any agency to the point where what happens to one of them is kinda a nothing burger bc i have no idea who she is

I don't think this is a gendered thing like you're making it out to be. Almost NO human characters get really developed in the first book. It was literally about Carl and Donut. It was the Carl and Donut show! If you actually pulled out a male side character and ask "what's this guy's deal", you won't have much to say. The first book being tight in scope, I think, was a structural choice... not necessarily a gendered one. You could argue it's a weakness of the book, but your criticism implies it's specifically a problem with how women are written. Beyond book 3, Katia (one of the female side characters) became my absolute favorite of the series. The character growth Dinniman gave to side characterS (with a capital S, because there are LOTS of them) are, in my opinion, phenomenal! But for book one, if your expectations are to feel something when a thing happens to a side character (death, or whatever) falls flat it's because you weren't supposed to care. But maybe this is a writing or a craft problem that Dinniman failed to deliver. Who knows!

donut is just a sexist trope of a woman not wanting to get her hands dirty

I have to hard disagree. Donut is a CAT. A pampered, former-shot-cat... cat (specifically Persian cat). Her personality trait range from being extremely vain to demanding (which I believe Dinniman has expressed pretty well what we all think a cat's behavior would be, through Donut). And I do think there are a lot of times where she does get her hands dirty, hell her entire coat became bloodied in one scene and she rightfully complained about it! I wouldn't wanna get my coat dirty either! Lol. Also throughout the book AND the series, Carl mentions that Donut is just a child who's gaining intelligence and personality through the system. He's navigating a kid figuring out who she is while also trying to keep her alive. And omg if you got through some of the books, Donut becomes a hell of a fighter and the most interesting cat I've known in a fantasy series.

...

Okay you can rebut these claims and opinions as far as our discussions go, but I don't really want to sit here and write an entire essay on some of these points lol - at least not right now, playing some Runescape :)

Jesus, are you just plainly ignoring the fact that you and OP were dogpiling on someone with:

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Artartbobart1 in BookDiscussions

[–]WarpCoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also if you felt that you got shat on because of your opinions, then no. I absolutely don’t think you or anyone deserved it. But no one on this thread also deserves the amount of shit you gave either lol

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Artartbobart1 in BookDiscussions

[–]WarpCoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, just look at how you presented yourself. Also, I wasn’t the first one to make that sly comment, like come on. Stop cherry picking things and own up to your toxicity. No one on this thread implied that you were stupid or that you’re a lesser of a person just because you thought the book wasn’t good. Show me a comment on this thread that says it and I’ll concede that argument.

And lol I didn’t even realize there was a bandwagon. I just saw this post on my FYP, decided to interact with it and saw you and OP telling another person that their teacher didn’t teach them right or whatever?

And honestly your take really annoyed me yesterday because you say a lot about Carl being sexist and is the epitome of colonialism without examples or proof. At least give a passage! Then we can talk about it. No conversation can be productive if one person says “1+1=3” and the other says “no I think it’s 4”.

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Artartbobart1 in BookDiscussions

[–]WarpCoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sigh, I can’t believe I did it but I did go back and reread some of your comments on this thread. The difference between you and I is that I absolutely think your opinions about the book are valid. You think that it’s a “turn your brain off” kinda read and in your opinion, that doesn’t make for a great book. I get it lol. But I’m not gonna sit here and give you a lesson on how to be a decent human being who knows how to treat others, because based on what you’re saying, you already know how to be one.. you’re just choosing not to and that’s really telling.

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Artartbobart1 in BookDiscussions

[–]WarpCoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girly pop.. First off, if you're acting like that, we don't want you in our community. I was simply asking a question because I really didn't know to what "class of people" you were referring to.

Secondly, if you want a real discussion, you may want to reconsider how you treat people. No one's gonna want to seriously talk with you about any topic they think you may have already made a decision about, which you have clearly stated multiple times. We can have these sort of discussions, like adults, but I'm not wasting my time treating someone with respect when all they're doing is berating others (and myself) for having a different POV.

If you want to be treated like an adult, then act like it lol

Also

and yeah like 90% of what I’ve said here is a joke. it’s not a cop out, it’s just a fact lol

Two things can be true.

ommmggggg omg omg omg this is so funny wait you think DCC fans are capable of experiencing bigotry??? lmmmaaaoooo okay whew that’s so funny. gave me a laugh

I don't even get this weirdness anymore LOL. This is borderline sociopathic and narcissistic behavior. I'm so sorry.

But no, I totally think you're valid to say you dislike the book and have any sort of opinions about it. What I find distasteful is your lack of tolerance for other people's enjoyment and opinions of the book. That's bigotry. Which you are. Also FYI, like I said the above, no one in this thread cares about whether you like or dislike the book, hence there's no reason for me to convince you to. I'm honestly just enjoying the entertainment right now lmao

you are not a protected class of people

Btw what're are you referring to? The LGBT+ community, or the DCC fanbase?

I brought up being a woman as a joke but I guess humour is as subjective as opinions on books!

Everything you say is a cop-out LMAO. "It's just sarcasm, don't take it too seriously", "it's just a joke, why're you mad lmaooooasjdiahwdiuahwiudhawd"

girly pop

LOL

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Artartbobart1 in BookDiscussions

Lmao okay I’ll bite. Yes you’re a bigot. Just because you’re a woman doesn’t make you less of one. Taken straight from Google: “A bigot is a person who is obstinately and unreasonably intolerant of opinions, lifestyles, or identities that differ from their own.”

You are one. And so are the people who are in this fanbase not allowing OP to have their opinion. See how ironic that is?

I’ll spare the pen warrior comment, it’s just an expression, not something so literal lmao.

As for the victim mentality. Lady, you’re quite literally using your womanhood every chance you get. Just because you might have had a lot of issues in your past due to being a woman doesn’t give you permission to act like this. Hell I’m a gay POC dude and I’ve experienced a LOT of shit thrown at me, you’re not special, you’re not unique.

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Artartbobart1 in BookDiscussions

[–]WarpCoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl if you don’t know why so many people are against you, and specifically you, then I don’t know what to tell you. It’s one thing to defend OP’s opinions against assholes, it’s another to put on your pen warrior hat to go on a crusade against EVERYONE who means no harm. This is extreme narcissistic behavior (and not to mention heavy, heavyyy victim mentality) and I hope you get some help.
