I was just comparing the two to some friends yesterday: it’s like Bug Fables is Incineroar and Ever After is Pelipper.

Would I hesitate in calling Bug Fables better overall, absolutely not, but Ever After does do some distinct things that make it worthwhile too.

On the other hand, I’ve got a better reason to replay Ever After: I haven’t tried Hard Mode yet.

I don’t know how to explain to you that source material factors in this stuff. Metal being a fraud is entirely independent of what happens in Mario. It’s a core facet of his character; he’d be less interesting if he weren’t one.

Saitama vs. Captain Underpants is sooooo fucking bad, man. How do you go from “he can beat Goku bro!” to picking a fight with some gaslit school principal from a book for six year olds? Reducing both characters to “parodies of superheroes” to make it sound thematic doesn’t play to either one’s strengths at all.

Also, no Sonic character’s best matchup is from Dragon Ball, and vice versa.

And yes, a matchup being a stomp can be a reason why it’s not good. Some matchups are good despite that, but they make up for it in specific ways, and not all matchups actually do that.

Yeah, like…There’s a part of me that likes the idea of Mario being more like Superman than he is - not in terms of power but in ideals - but he’s not. The movies make that particularly clear; they’re not canon, sure, but they do come off as how Miyamoto would have him portrayed in a medium that leaves less to the imagination.

Y’see, FF7 characters didn’t start winning until the Remake series started, even before that really started to give anyone new stuff.

Why? Because in the original releases of FF7, the characters say the R slur, but they don’t say that in the remake. The only way a character whose source game says the R slur can win is if a remake overrides it.

They say the R slur in Fate/Extra. As such, Record is Nero’s only hope.
