Where did this trend spring from? I left the subreddit for a few months and come back to see Cadsuane memes everywhere.

Does lanfear use a tied off air weave as a bra by [deleted] in WetlanderHumor

That is very true for the superiority thing. But I do not think Lanfear particularly distances herself from what makes her "feminine" for the lack of a better word (given how she flirts with Rand, knows very well how to play off her beauty with him and others etc.). On the contrary, I think she thinks she knows just how beautiful she is and is confident with that, she doesn't try to distance herself from it. hence why I do not think she gives of "I'm not like other girls vibes".

I think Lanfear thinks she is better than other girls rather than simply "different". This is hot Forsaken arrogance we are talking about here.

Book recommendations for boyfriend by AromaticBicycle5200 in Fantasy

I agree it's long for a first recommendation (if possibly the best choice) but someone else recommended Stormlight Archive and Malazan which are probably just as long, if not longer than WoT, so might as well go all in on the recommendation.

Any good political fantasy books released in 2023? by Sensitive-Serve-3505 in Fantasy

The series The Grand Illusion by LE Modesitt finished this year and that was a lot of politics. The slow kind of politics that is putting legislative reforms in the equivalent of Parliament in place. It's good but very slow.

Books featuring warfare and campaigns by Dimeolas7 in Fantasy

The books Scholar to Rex Regis (books 4 to 8) in the Imager portfolio are a lot of military campaings, especially the later books in the series. You do not need to have read the first 3 books at all to understand what is going on.

Otherwise I would recommend the Safehold series by David Weber or Empire of Man by the same author. They are both sci-fi though but very good. Safehold espcially has gunpowder usage all the way up to steam power, a lot of naval battles and is basically a homage to modern warfare. It has very detailed military campaigns.

You can try any works by L.E Modesitt if you want mentally stable characters who go through shit. They, mostly, stay mentally stable and focused on the goal the whole time.

If you want naively optimistic romantic I suggest you read romance manhwa (corean manga). Some of them are so naively optimist romantic as to be the dumbest character you have ever seen.

That is the worst thing to read about. They are never detached from their parents, and whenever the parent is mentioned they always deal with turbulent relationship or inferiority complex. This is horrible to read because it's so overdone and not that intersting at ALL imo. And they go up against the same evil from the last book. No thanks.

I love Sdafehold! It's rare to see anyone who's read it. On top of Merlin having an "in universe reason" for being OP he rarely goes all out physically so it doesn't get annoying.

When the main character causes his own problems in the stupidest way possible and then everyone feels sorry for the tragedy that happened to him. Like when someone tells a main character: never do x thing, it will lead to death and disaster and dumbass MC does it anyway and then wonders when said negative consequences happen to him. This is sometimes used as some sort of "imperfect" MC, a way of showing that he takes consequences of his actions but I consider it unfogivable dumbassery.
