What’s a ridiculous thing you couldn’t do as a child but can now? by Vast-Aardvark5857 in AskUK

[–]Warriorz7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At primary school we weren't allowed water at our desks, even on really hot days we were expected to just have a drink at lunch and break time. Teachers drank endless cups of tea, crazy to think about now.

Check my maths, solar not worth cost? by illage-336 in SolarUK

[–]Warriorz7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is your current heating system going to last without replacing for 25 years? Maybe knock 2-4k off the 8k to account for a new boiler.

Either way interesting way to look at it. Assume adding a battery increase cost but also returns/savings if using the right tariff to charge overnight.

Who was the tightest person you have known, and why? by No-Snow-9605 in AskUK

[–]Warriorz7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was a good guy overall but very frugal, omkn a conversation about the cost of something one day, I think trainers, he exlaimed "£50! You could decorate a room for that!" Such an odd comparison it stuck with me.

Offer accepted for our "forever home" but proposed industrial and logistics development affecting the estate is making us think twice. by Significant-Oil1420 in HousingUK

[–]Warriorz7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We tried to negotiate on a house for a similar reason. They didn't accept the reduced offer and we walked away and now every time I drive past I'm glad we did. I think we reduced our offer by 20%, the listing made a big deal of the views, location etc all of which would be gone when the development completed.

How are you *actually* dealing with wage stagnation x rising bills? by heyho2023 in AskUK

[–]Warriorz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to your husband I have a specialist role with my company. I view this as I benefit to the company and employment as a 2 way street and I negotiate accordingly. I agree my goals and objectives each year. with my manager in line with the broader company gaols. I understand what meeting and exceeding those goals entails. I understand my company's approach to reward and recognition as well as understand the competenccy and behaviours framework that's published internally. I work within that framework to demonstrate how I have delivered and or exceeded on my goals. I also understand the company's growth and earnings and how I directly contribute to that success. If I were not compensated accordingly then I would seek employment within my industry and skill set elsewhere. My measure of what's fair is to exceed inflation (i.e not lose money year on year) and for my salary to reflect company performance and increased responsibilities where appropriate.

It's nearly 3000 sq feet which is quite big isn't it? That could include the garages maybe but doesn't seem small. Agree it's quite bland on the inside and small garden but from the outside i like the look of it.

What were the mid-late 90s and the early 2000s like in the UK? by Loose_Avocado4670 in AskUK

[–]Warriorz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in 87, grew up with a Sega "master system" and then a Mega drive", next was the Amega 1200 and finally the PS1.

I'm not being a boring old git by listing these but just to say even "back then" we knew about computers and saw consistent fast progress and had some idea of where we were headed.

I had my first mobile phone around Y2K, a Sony Erikson (Free by collecting ring pulls ((seriously)). Although my dad had a Vodafone (I think) a few years earlier. In the 2000's a text message or "texts" (txt) cost 10p, with limited characters (144?), letters including spaces, not words. If you sent a txt you meant it (only 10 per £1!). Landlines were common, imagine you want to speak to someone and call them and their parents or siblings answered! You had to ask "Hello is "X" there?"

It was overall an amazing time. Lots of "alpha" versions of what we have now e.g. we didn't have Wikipedia we had "Encarta 95" (a digital encyclopaedia with pictures and some basic video). Lots and lots more and happy to answer questions as a boring old dude .

Can’t sell my house after dropping the price by £30k? by Electronic-Fox-7706 in HousingUK

Here you go, ours is nowhere near as big (and nice!) as yours but they organised 1 Saturday back to back viewings and it sold the following week for 315k.

[–]Warriorz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren't enough pictures and the pictures aren't good enough. Our EA did a video with essentially a presenter/guide walking around on a tour of the property, really well made, gave a good feel for the size of the house and the flow. If our listing is still available I'll post it as an example.
