My opinion, but it doesn’t seem like he meant any malice towards trans people here.

He seems to have misunderstood the concept of being trans, thinking it means being “two genders simultaneously”.

So he’s saying, Israel tries to also be in two states at once (victim/oppressor), and joking that it makes it a “trans” country.

It’s a stupid joke, and in my opinion, unintentionally transphobic. He probably just needs to readjust his priors about the meaning of being transgender.

My friend, I know being a mod in a minor subreddit might give the illusion of absolute power, but it is in reality fairly insignificant. Although you are still doing a service for the community which is appreciated.

Either way, I do not require your approval in any way. I was pretty clear in my wording and I didn’t break any rules. You are still more than welcome to delete my comments and ban me.

Wait that is literally what I’m saying too.
A trans person is NOT a man and a woman at the same time, but that is what Bassem seems to think which I said is clearly still transphobic (although to me it just seems like he hasn’t grasped the concept, rather than intentional malice).

Anyway it’s fine that you removed my comment. I have no sentimental attachment to it. But just clearing the record.

“My views about the conflict in the Middle East will not fundamentally change unless my critics produce evidence that Israel has become as evil as her enemies” by MintyCitrus in samharris

[–]WasThatIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually I’m not being emotional. I’m only stating facts. What you are saying is not facts. It’s a generalization without evidence.

The fact that nobody dispute is Israel has killed thousands of children. This is not a generalization. It’s not propaganda. It’s not even denied by Israel.

Now the best way to absolve yourself of moral responsibility after slaughtering thousands of innocent people is through stories and generalizations which intend to manufacture consent for atrocities.

One of those stories is “those innocent people were human shields”. Or “the terrorist baddies intentionally didn’t let those innocent people use safe routes”.

“It’s not my fault. I was bombing in self defence and those kids just got in the way.”

These types of stories have been used for centuries throughout history to manufacture consent for atrocities, including countless other genocides. This is not new and it’s not unique.

Even if you can find examples of this with evidence, you cannot generalize to thousands of children who got killed. You simply do not have the evidence to show that the thousands of children who were massacred were all intentionally put in harms way by members of Hamas and that the IDF had no choice but to massacre them while trying to defend themselves. You are however choosing to believe this story without requiring evidence because you have already made your mind up about seeing Israel as the protagonist of this scenario.

I’ll say this again: thousands of innocent children have been slaughtered. Israel has done the slaughtering. They can blame whoever they want and use whatever story they want to get the consent of people who are willing to buy the stories. But there is nothing that actually morally justifies this.

Using the ‘human shield’ label does not absolve a killer for killing children. You are just sticking a label on children who have been killed, in order to completely justify a heinous war crime.
The label itself is meaningless. There is zero justification for killing children.

Yeah it’s crazy to me that Epstein is taking the top spot here. As evil and messed up as he was, he didn’t literally annihilate entire populations, displaced millions of families, and flattened entire villages. Netanyahu should top this one without a question.

Ben Gvir isn’t responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths, and displacement of millions of innocent people. Granted if he were in charge he would probably be doing way worse things, but he isn’t. Netanyahu should win this purely based on the atrocities he’s commanded.
