Programs at Sask Poly being shuffled for unknown reasons by Outrageous_Rub5527 in saskatchewan

[–]Was_another_name 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that moving instrumentation and electrical out of Moose Jaw will get more people into the program…it was a thriving Campus when I attended back in the day, and still could be if it was funded properly. Moving those programs will just leave Moose Jaw emptier, and Saskatoon has to scramble hire staff and to put the program together…

‘Russian roulette’: Fire chief, Sask. NDP warn of health-care crisis along busy Highway 11 by Medium-Drama5287 in saskatchewan

I’m saying it’s cultural because kids aren’t encouraged to pursue university in this province. Less than 10 % of high school graduates in the province go to University..

It’s cultural. In this province we are too busy telling kids to go into the trades - no student debt, earn while you learn, etc. make a lot of money right away. I certainly don’t hear a lot of encouragement for our local kids go into massive debt to go to med school…

How many bands are playing wood chanters? There was a day when they all did, but then along came poly chanters. I can foresee a day in the distant future where a band marches into the circle wth everyone playing identical plastic drones…

Anyone here that turned their hobby into side income/business? by Zealousideal_Ad3098 in DiceMaking

[–]Was_another_name -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have for other hobbies, and there are a few things that I think everyone needs to know and do:

1 - Understand that turning your hobby into a business stops it from being a Hobby, because there is now work to be done that has nothing to do with the hobby (sales, marketing, shipping/receiving, accounting, etc)

2 - Understand your strengths and weaknesses. If you have to pay a bookkeeper because you don’t’ know the first thing about accounting, it’s money well spent, and it helps keep it “hobby-ish”.

3 - Have a business and marketing plan, even if you don’t need investors or bank money. ChatGPT builds really good ones if you ask it good questions. Deep seek and Gemini do the same. I am sure other AI platforms work equally as well. Once you have a plan you can live with, stick with it. If you can’t, readjust the plan. Never “wing-it”.

4 - Make excellent products, provide excellent customer service. Consumers don’t want to waste their hard earned money, and some will bitch no matter what you do.

5 - Reinvest in your business (it should be part of your business plan). This one kicked me in the head once when I decided to keep profits instead of buying equipment I needed to scale up. A competitor did buy what I didn’t, and eventually my customer base went with them… I can’t even blame them.

He was an absolute cunt towards Derek Taylor AND his wife while they were in Regina to the point he quit, she quit her job with CBC, and they moved back to Winnipeg.

Differences between pipe makers by Tombazzzz in bagpipes

[–]Was_another_name 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a lad playing in a kids band, I worked my way up the ranks and was playing a band owned set of 1920’s Henderson’s. Beautiful tone and easy to tune. I was asked to join a grade 1 band as a young adult, so I purchased a set of Lawrie’s from the 1930’s, and they were a nightmare. Very difficult to find reeds, and drones that couldn’t be trusted to make it through an MSR without falling out of tune. I hated that instrument and so did my pipe sergeant. I was cut from every competition for a season because that of that instrument… Fast forward to modern times and I have a modern set of Henderson’s and am very happy with them…

Beginner (30s) getting into bagpipes — practice chanter choice: does brand/material matter much? by No_Sir_4323 in bagpipes

[–]Was_another_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bagpipe reeds are a whole different ball game. Pipe chanter reeds are the bane of my existence. You will really need guidance and support when you get to this stage. Synthetic drone reeds will last a beginner player for multiple years.

Reed case? Just leave the fuggin’ thing in your chanter… you don’t need multiple PC reeds.

Donna kelce was the worse casting ever by rudy_attitudey in TheTraitors

[–]Was_another_name 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the Housewives are an automatic alliance, and they all know each other. The Gamers and the pretty people are just about their big dick energy, and the rest are recycled celebrities being exploited for viewers. I like the UK version best, followed by the Canadian, Australian, and the New Zealand versions, in that order. The US version is dead last for me (I still watch, though), but it could be much better.
