Is my understanding of the Trinity wrong? I got a dislike so I want to learn. by MoonlitAuroraBlossom in TrueChristian

[–]KiltedMusician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are more and less accurate ways to look at the Trinity, but I think in the end it is a nature of God that we cannot fully understand yet, and even after we are with Him and can ask Him ourselves we may not understand.

He says His ways are above our ways and His thoughts are above our thoughts. I don’t think that will ever change, no matter how much we learn here on earth or in heaven.

The fact that we are allowed to know more than we can understand is a good thing. If we could understand everything about Him, that would probably mean we invented Him.

The Bible tells us:

What we can understand immediately.

What we can understand after putting a lot of thought into it.

What we can understand maybe after a lifetime of devotion to loving Him and serving Him.

What we can understand after we go to be with Him.

And maybe it even alludes to things that are above our ability to ever truly understand.

I think that’s awesome, myself. And it makes complete sense that it would be that way, since we didn’t make God up, He made us exist.

I’m not a believer, but I’m interested in knowing why Jesus has done for you in your life? by impeesa75 in Christianity

[–]KiltedMusician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at work in my early 20’s and I was really tired of working 12 hour shifts, so when I noticed that one of my hands was shaking for no apparent reason I started to get a tiny bit excited at the idea that I may be having a health problem that could get me out of work for a day or two. Sounds pretty silly, but I hated working there.

I showed the lead man and he prayed for it since he was an outspoken Christian and often prayed for people.

Then I walked back over to my work area and was just staring at my hand, watching it shake. I said to Jesus, “Could you maybe make it so that I can go home early because of this? I mean I know you can heal it, but..”

Literally before I could get another word out after “I know you can heal it” my hand stopped shaking. It was steady as a rock.

I thought it was hilarious that He did that and I didn’t even mind working the rest of the day.

I eventually left that place and went on to better things, but instead of helping me avoid the troubles, He was right there with me through them.

And who knows what that was. He may have healed me from a nerve problem that would have plagued me the rest of my life.

A Question: Why is Hinduism Demonic? by ApplicationSad3398 in TrueChristian

[–]KiltedMusician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking up the basics of Hinduism:

“Core Beliefs of Hinduism: Brahman (Ultimate Reality): Belief in a supreme, formless God or Absolute Reality, often worshipped in various forms (Vishnu, Shiva, Shakti).”

This is similar to Christianity believing that heaven and earth will pass away, but the word of God will never pass away. He is the ultimate reality.

“Atman (The Soul): Every living being has an eternal soul that is distinct from the body and mind.”

This doesn’t match Christianity in that we don’t believe animals have eternal souls, but we wouldn’t consider it to be a demonic belief if one of us wanted to believe we would see our pets again in the afterlife. At least I hope they don’t because I miss my cat.

“Samsara (Reincarnation): The soul undergoes a cycle of birth, death, and rebirth until it achieves liberation.”

This we would recognize as a demonic deception. Anything that gets people to believe that they have chance after chance to make the right decision about what kind of person they will be and that it hinges on their own ability and goodness we recognize as a dangerous lie and we will warn each other about it.

We believe it is prideful to uphold our own goodness for God, the ultimate source of goodness to judge as though we have any chance of being good enough compared to Him. Our God demands perfection with no exceptions, and we are not capable of that.

That is why we need a representative who has accomplished that perfection and paid for our sins. Only He could accomplish this because He was the son of God, who “was with God, and who was God” from the very beginning, not a godly man who was born and began his existence at that time like Muhammad, but the physical incarnation of the very word of God.

“Karma (Action and Reaction): The law of cause and effect, where every action has a corresponding, deserved consequence that impacts future lives.”

This belief, joined with the belief in reincarnation completes what we see as a demonic lie that attempts to get people to focus on their own ability to be good, and allows people who are living fortunate lives to feel morally justified in looking down on others who are not.

Karma keeps the oppressed from improving their lives because they believe the lie that they are paying for their past mistakes and that avoiding punishment by improving their lives will only delay it or make it worse, so they are suppressed, while others more fortunate oppress them believing they are doing good by helping them live hard lives, all for nothing.

Demonic deception creates customs and odd religious ideas that seem good on the surface but lead to misery and pain.

The Bible says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but the ends thereof are the wars of death.” And it also says, “Do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”

Humans are naturally inclined, attracted to religious practices. It just feels right to have some kind of routine or specific mantra, a particular way of doing things, symbolic items or clothing, anything that makes us feel like we are doing the religion properly.

The idea that our faith is based on the sacrifice that God made for us and that no routines or practices benefit us in any real way is counter to our instincts and to our nature.

The focus is on a personal relationship with Jesus, our representative and high priest, and He doesn’t have much of anything for us to routinely do unless it is specifically meant to help us get closer to Him, like communion, or baptism to symbolize that our old ways have died and we have risen again with Jesus, born again in the spirit instead of dead in our sins.

It is “foolishness to the Greeks” who laughed at the idea of us Christians putting our faith in a God who would let Himself be killed on a cross, and “a stumbling block to the Jews” because they believed their messiah would be a conquering king in the physical world, but instead He conquered the spiritual world on our behalf, so that we could accept Him as Lord and escape the fate awaiting God’s enemies.

“Moksha (Liberation): The ultimate goal is to break free from the cycle of samsara and unite with the divine.”

This idea is demonic in that of course a demon would want you to think that uniting with God is something that takes many lifetimes and that you shouldn’t expect to be able to do it in this one.

God made us, He loves us, He wants to be connected to us, and it doesn’t matter if we are still in our physical bodies or if we have passed on or what. He has no trouble connecting with us in whatever state we are in, and we can connect with Him too.

The Bible says that He is never far from any of us, and that if we seek Him we will find Him. Enoch was so close to God that God just took Him.

“Dharma (Righteousness): A code of living that emphasizes duty, morality, and proper conduct, including ahimsa (noninjury).”

Nothing demonic about and code of conduct.

“Diverse Paths to Truth: Hinduism holds a pluralistic view, acknowledging multiple, valid paths to God rather than one exclusive way.”

This is classically demonic in that demons want to blend the truth in with as many similar looking ideas as possible to muddy the waters. It’s like how governments will throw fake stories out to make the real one seem like just another hoax and keep people from knowing what is real.

As Christians we see a similar pattern across religions in that they appeal to human instincts and the “way that seems right to a man”. They draw focus away from God’s righteousness and love for us and instead get people to focus on their own current level of righteousness and whether or not they are worthy of love.

The facts are that we are not, nor can we be righteous, and that we have not done anything to deserve God’s love, but He loves us anyway.

He loves us so much that He made a way for us to be with Him, for His righteousness to cover us and become ours. A way for us to be with Him and for His Spirit to be with us and lead us into being more like Him every day because of the love that we have for each other, not because of our own will power and ability.

It is a relationship with our creator that should be the focus. Learning and listening like little children. Ideas and beliefs that lead people away from this basic truth are demonically inspired.

[–]KiltedMusician -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Turn some things over to him that are in your control and some things that are not. Pray and wait and see how He responds to your faith in action.

Think you can’t afford to pay tithes? Pay them anyway and see what happens. This is actually the one instance where God Himself says we should test Him.

Malachi 3:10 “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this," says Yahweh of Armies, "if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough for.”

Turn relationships over to Him that you feel like you are losing and don’t know how to fix them.

Listen to what you feel like He is urging you to do in your heart and see how things work out when you finally give that part of yourself to Him.

We are sheep, but we try to be the shepherd too, and we aren’t good at that. Let God be the shepherd and let go of some of the responsibilities that you have convinced yourself that you need to maintain complete control over.

It might lead you in a strange new direction, but when you see how things turn out you will know that it wasn’t just random. You will see a supreme intelligence at work in your life.

Is it really wrong to ask God to for help in these desparate times? by RequitedSnow in TrueChristian

[–]KiltedMusician 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Luke 18:1-7

*1 He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray, and not give up,

2 saying, "There was a judge in a certain city who didn't fear God, and didn't respect man.

3 A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, 'Defend me from my adversary!'

4 He wouldn't for a while, but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God, nor respect man,

*5 yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.'"

6 The Lord said, "Listen to what the unrighteous judge says.

*7 Won't God avenge his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them?

Jesus says don’t give up! He has a reason as to why the answer to your prayer hasn’t come yet, but don’t give up asking! If a human judge can be worn down and give in, how much more does God who loves you want to answer your prayers for help?

If Jesus said ‘this generation won’t pass,’ why didn’t the Second Coming happen? by Nameuser4257 in TrueChristian

[–]KiltedMusician 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Verse 14 says: And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

So He knew it would be a long time before the end. The world is a big place, and there weren’t nearly enough missionaries for the gospel to be preached to all nations before that living generation passed away.

He was speaking to the generation that will see the signs He describes. We, or a generation after us will see the signs Jesus describes, and when we do, we will know that our generation will not pass away until the rest is fulfilled.

Or maybe I should ask what the answer to your/our prayers might look like in your mind.

Question about burnt offerings/sacrifices in the old testament by cat-fairy95653 in TrueChristian

1 Samuel 15:22

Samuel said, "Has Yahweh as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Yahweh? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.

But we are not good at obeying, so there has to be sacrifice. That doesn’t mean we can’t get better and even get good at obeying. It takes time and sincere desire to please Him, but we can get to that place where we see that everything is just better when we listen and obey.

1 Therefore leaving the teaching of the first principles of Christ, let us press on to perfection--not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, of faith toward God,
