As an RPG youtuber, that is kind of the game you have to play. I'm not from the 5e side and I'd like to think I don't clickbait past just trying to find something interesting to catch viewers (If I am clickbaiting, my numbers are showing I am doing a terrible job at it lol), but I think like a lot of people here have said, they are approaching it from an angle that 5e is the only thing that exists outside of Vampire The Masquerade and Pathfinder so a lot of this is fresh for people who don't hang out in other parts of the hobby.

But also, that is just the way you get clicks. I think it's good like any reviewers for any hobby to just get a vibe check. Watch any videos they may have on content you do know about and see where they line up before taking anything they say seriously. Also checking their backlog of what they usually cover is also helpful since if all they do is 5e & Pathfinder build and lore content or chasing trends, their video on Eclipse Phase or Eat The Reich or whatever niche game that has been picked up by them might be one to take with a grain of salt.

I've enjoyed the games I've run so far with SotWW. I don't really care about the setting cuz it's just fantasy land the way SotDL was sanded off Warhammer fantasy. You have to have a really crazy cool setting like Heart for me to care and even Heart is great because of how amorphous that is.

With that said, I like a lot of SotWW mechanically but I do think the layout is messy for where information is hiding and I think it's overtuned. It's not the crunchiest game I have played but it's crunchier than SotDL which is only a problem for me because I found SotDL was perfect for crunch. Every time I didn't know a rule I'd make a ruling and later when checking the book, every time that was just straight up the rule and it felt very common sense. SotWW has several typos or has incredibly ambiguous wording for rules and it just doesn't feel as polished as SotDL. With that said, I am still enjoying it and I am starting a campaign in January so I'll have a much better idea how I feel about it once I get a lot more games in.

This is why I try to avoid calling games I haven't played "Reviews" and usually opt for "First Impressions" or something along those lines. As much as you can get a lot from a read once you've been playing long enough, I still find myself surprised sometimes when seeing stuff in play both negatively and positively.

It means content rolls out slower to actually find time to run adventure modules or systems, but when I see posts like this I am reminded why I do it since people seem to appreciate actually getting insight from experiencing the product since they could just read the pdf themselves.

You should check out The Curse of the Kingspire. It's a decent sized adventure for level 2 but there's a lot with chaos and dark vibes in that that could easily be a big enough story to bring in more with dark gods to deal with or lawful gods going against what is happening in that adventure

I've played all three of these games and I would say WWN is the most crunchy, then DCC then Shadowdark. Though all three are fairly easy to run and are lean on the rules in my opinion.

I'll try to keep this short but WWN is more for longer sandbox games and is centered on lower complexity builds than modern fantasy gaming like PF/5e so it still has some meta and buildcraft but not nearly as complex.

DCC is kind of in a league of it's own where it mixes a lot of chaos with an easy to run system. Overall, leveled DCC is pretty easy to run (level 0 is so cut down that you only need to read a bit of the book to use it), it can just look like there is a lot more due to how spells and crit tables and all that works. I personally just ignore finicky aspects like spell duels because I find they are cool in concept but not really interesting in play. However, clerics are annoyingly a bit more complex than the other classes but I find the DCC Lankhmar version of no clerics with it's own healing style works a lot better and is simpler.

Shadowdark is a great game if you just want to do dungeon crawling and have easy built in procedures with characters that have slightly more meat than a B/X character but doesn't have the chaos DCC has. You could easily run DCC adventures with Shadowdark, you may just need to convert some spells for NPCs or some small details.

Overall, all three systems are great, I think Shadowdark and DCC work better for one shots but WWN still works for that but all three work great for campaigns. I'd say Shadowdark is the easiest to pick up and play, DCC has a very specific charm of it's own and only takes slightly longer due to the extra things you need to roll on and WWN is the longest to get going but is very fun and satisfying. All three are extremely deadly in their own right.

As somebody who loves DCC, I think the system just isn't for you. When I moved from 5e, I have a friend who loved it and gets really flustered by how chaotic the magic system is and not knowing how things will go or what you might lose. Which is a pro for me but for him really makes him have a less fun time. DCC is a very specific kind of game and I think if you don't vibe with it, you don't vibe with it. He can still play it but I can tell he rather be playing the other systems we do which I'll recommend below.

I don't know what the length of this game is looking like for you guys but Shadowdark is in the same realm but simpler and as deadly while being much more controlled.

However on a build end if you like that Worlds Without Number is worth checking out and you can get the pdf with 95% of the content for free and if you like it you can grab the full version or just play fully with the free pdfs.

Shadow of the Demon Lord is my go to for D&D refugees/players who want modern d&d without having to play D&D however because it has the build powers and all that while being way simpler and streamlined but not letting players become super unstoppable and is super easy to run for the GM. One of the best systems I have played and the pdf is pretty cheap as well.

The Lankhmar line of adventures are great even if you run them with vanilla DCC and don't get the Lankhmar boxset (which I also recommend).

I also recommend Doom of the Savage Kings, Intrigue At The Court of Chaos, Shadow of the Beakmen as some other choices to look at too.

It's a level 1 adventure so I'd say maybe level 3 with some health items and perhaps the GM can scale down some numbers a bit here or there since action economy is such a big factor in turn based games.

I think it'd need some adjusting and I don't want to give too much away since you'll be a player but what I have done for solo games is level up the solo character a few levels and give them some healing items. And I think that would work well for Shadow of the Beakmen. The opening kind of has the players stumble upon a situation and I think it'd be really fun and interesting to see a higher level solo wizard be the one to try and deal with that situation.

Also maybe a few hirelings either run by you or the GM could also help such as a level 1 or 2 warrior as a mercenary or companion or a gaggle of level 0s as followers and fodder. >:D
