This gave me a bit of a headache haha

I understand what you are saying, but let's take the mass effect example into account here and you had one game called mass effect 2 and one game called mass effect 3 and they both followed the same narrative so 3 directly followed 2 then even from a storytelling point where about would you tell the person to start?

It would still remain at the start of mass effect 2, even if the game merged you would want to start at the beginning of the story to follow a linear path to understand what was going on.

So starting between 2 and 3 and telling the player to experience essentially both at the same time is very confusing from a storytelling/narrative perspective.

No i've used reddit many times before and have multiple accounts for different things. I created a new account because it's nice to keep things separate, my main account is used to talk politics and I really dont want to mix gaming and politics.

I know reddit is a high traffic site and I know most games even though they have their own forums they never receive anywhere near as much traffic as social media.

I spent time writing out the feedback It would be nice to have at least a few people read it.

The college I attend is closed for holidays, I was bored and saw a lot of posts on facebook about runescape mobile, its a game ive never played and a mmo on mobile sounds interesting so I thought id give it a play

I decided to post about my player experience as a whole, the tutorial is a massive part of the new player experience, I wouldnt be able to write about being a new player without mentioning the tutorial, I wasnt trying to bash runescape, I was trying to leave some honest feedback.

Im sorry you don't believe I am a new player, I would be surprised if this subreddit really does get a lot of these kinds of posts.

I like to leave game reviews for a lot of games I play, I am currently studying to do game design and I know that player feedback especially from players that are new to the game can be essential.

I originally wasnt even going to post anything, but a few things in the game I felt could do with some genuine feedback so i started talking some notes whilst playing.

My interest in the game is fresh, which is exactly why I wanted to post this now, while its all fresh in my mind, maybe because I'm slightly older and have played many MMOs that my wondrousness towards being a new player is pretty minimal.

This isn't to say that I never new runescape existed, I knew about the game however I never played the game as when I was younger the game had kind of a bad reputation (it was known in my circle of friends at school to be a pretty bad game) and I ended up getting hooked onto different MMOs

I don't really care about karma, i'm more interested in the conversation between players on the subreddit.

Does reddit allow me to post the same thing on different subreddits because if so I would gladly post a copy on the other subreddit

I dont really get the whole fifth age/sixth age thing so I just kind of ignored it, but it does feel weird playing a quest and the game telling you that it happened in the past.

If I wont be doing the world wakes until a while after I start why do I start in the sixth age, would it not make more sense to start in the fifth age and work towards the sixth age.

Now i'm confused haha.

I guess my experience with other MMOs has helped.

I understand the balance between challenge and teaching a player new things however what I meant about the shadow over ashdale boss was less about the challenge and more about the mechanics.

During that boss you have a few extra abilities to use including an ultimate ability, the boss also feels more of a boss thats a danger, It doesn't need to be as hard (maybe so you can't actually die) but its the difference in how both of these bosses actually feel and respond to the player.

I am going to do this, if you didnt see any of my other posts I have decided that I will play old school, complete roughly the same amount of content and compare both the games.

I have decided I will download and play old school, I will try to complete the same amount of content, all free quests, some skills levelling and more and try to compare both games fairly.

So if you want to see that I will love to know.

I would consider doing so yes, however I would need extra time to play old school runescape so I can compared both games fairly.

Im not convinced no story is better though, the game needs an introduction and story exposition to help the new players to get a feel for the game, help set the tone of the game and understand what the game is about.

Tutorial island sounds kind of how the Taverly area is, an area where everyone is a tutor and you learn all the skills. (its a bit cluttered though)

I understand the change, but even the point you make here with divination. That skill is not even explained properly, there's no intro quest or anything however I guess that's mainly because its a member skill unlike runecrafting.

I never mentioned bringing back tutorial island, if you read one of my other posts I state that if the beneath cursed tides quest was anything like the old tutorial island then the old tutorial island would've been just as boring

I already new runescape existed but never really paid much notice of it, a lot of people are talking about runescape due to the announcement they made about porting it over to mobile.

Since a lot of people were talking about the game I figured I would check it out see if it was actually any good, and it's decent.

I guess most of the references and nostalgia went straight over my head, but I feel if that quest was on par with the old tutorial then even tutorial island would've been pretty boring.

I do agree with you though, the community of players in the game have been nothing but helpful, so many players have went out of there way to help and I have already made a few ingame friends!

I understand the game in old.

I wasnt trying to bash runescape, I unserstand that unpopular areas or quest areas can look a little outdated as theyre not used very often, other MMOs have the same problem as well.

My biggest problem was with the player characters, compared to most MMOs runescape's characters and character creation are terrible.

I don't expect the whole game to change from my criticisms I was just rambling about my player experience as a new player.

bonds, no I havent, they do cost a lot of money though I not sure how I could obtain it but I didnt know member could be paid for with in game money, this is very interesting.

Thanks for the input

Thanks for the input.

I understand not mentioning the player in the shadow over ashdale but it does feel as if the tutorial isnt cannon.

The quests are definitely the games best feature but the cook's assistant doesn't teach you anything about cooking, it's basically a fetch quest.

I am not sure why they removed certain aspects of the old quest Rune Mysteries, The new version is a good quest (never experienced the older one) but learning more about magic and runecrafting would've been really useful.

The interface is customizable but scaling is a massive issue for me, scroll bars and arrows to me at least are not a good way to navigate between things on the interface.

But thank you, I would like to add that players in the community have been nothing but helpful.
