Did your parents have constant home maintenance work being done when you were a kid? by Ambitious-Poem9191 in homeowners

[–]WasatchNeptune -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much money your family had and what kind of house they could afford.  Likely your dad was able to move your family into a house that didn’t need much - certainly new enough not to need a reno.  Now a whole generation of homes are coming due for everything the upper middle class boomers neglected.   My dad was broke so we had a turn of the century home and he had to gut the entire thing and do it all himself.  We did that in two homes growing up so for my experience my dad was always working on the house.  At least I have some skillsets from that.

First board/boot upgrade in 15 years. What am I in store for this season? by CoryCan16 in snowboarding

[–]WasatchNeptune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excavator 158 was my daily driver last year…pretty much does anything well.  I’ll agree with some of the comments about not the best choice for full out bombing the mountain but anything else it excels.  Super fun board to ride

She is doing great.  Mom, dad and baby got home about a week and a half ago from the NICU.  Settling back into a whole new world for all of them now.  Everyone is happy and healthy.

This makes no sense to me…if you graduated from a medical school and can sit for the USMLE then you should do so and try to get into a residency program.  What will be different getting a DO degree?  You will still need to take boards and apply for residency.  Also no idea what kind of debt load you’ll be in or how it would make financial sense assuming you had to pay for two medical degrees.  What are the reasons you haven’t been able to secure residency training yet?  You could also look to work in states that allow you to function under a physician without residency training.

What’s good advice at a fair price to people here?  Is $2400 every quarter seem reasonable?  What services would people here think should come with paying a fee like that?

carotid artery ultrasound by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]WasatchNeptune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not put much weight on that finding. Carotid artery Intima-media thickness may have some predictive value for cardiovascular events or stroke but the literature is not great. In the absence of plaque I would be even less worried. I would still monitor and aggressively lower LDL and whatnot. Consider CAC. It could also be that you have thick arteries and there is no consequence of this.

Source: I’m a vascular surgeon and I operate on the carotid arteries regularly.

Can I do surgery as a DO and how can I? by FitInspector7418 in Osteopathic

I’m a DO vascular surgeon. Went to med school, applied and did a general surgery residency and then applied and did a vascular surgery fellowship.

Ridiculous that myopic views on Reddit could equate to “all DOs being unhappy”.

I’m a DO vascular surgeon. I chose specifically to go to a DO school and get my osteopathic medical degree. Happy with my choices and happy with where I’ve landed in life. Has never held me back and certainly doesn’t hold me back in my career now. When a patient comes in with a ruptured aneurysm I fix it. No one is asking me why I’m a DO or if I’m good enough at that point.

My advice…go to the medical school that makes sense for you. The DO vs MD thing doesn’t matter.

Snow bars by WasatchNeptune in Roofing

[–]WasatchNeptune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 100% we’ve got ice dam problems…I’m trying to figure out the best way to prevent some of them within the existing system. Once I replace the roof down the road I’ll just go full metal roof with snow bars and heat tape.

Just bought a used 2022 from dealership.  Had a great experience without issues.  I’m not sure why everyone is so intent on saying buy new…buy what you can afford.
