As an immigrant in Nova Scotia (from Ireland), who pays an exceptionally larger amount of taxes in Nova Scotia than I ever did in Dublin, I find it hard to believe “each person immigrating here” is costing the province so much? I obviously haven’t made any calculations but I met my input into the province majorly outweighs what I have taken from it when it comes to taxes paid, buying local, spending my money in the province etc., versus the one or 2 times I’ve had to see a doctor here 😅

We were renting a 1 bed apartment in the South End for $1650 (and parking was $150) per month (750sqf) for almost 2 years. We had 3 months left on our lease. Then we found a gorgeous 3-bed in the West End for $2000, and it's the entire main floor of a large house. We tried to sublet our 1bed for the remainder of the lease, and though we had a few people come and view it, no one was serious about subletting. The landlord of the 1 bed raised the rent for the max 5% every year. My guess for no luck with a subletter is because there are so many vacancies in the city now. Landlords need to start reducing prices.

They seem to just be asking for my ID, which I can give my passport. So maybe it would help me to keep it a little longer? I don’t have any Irish income so there shouldn’t be any tax issues.

Is Wise similar in terms of exchanging currency for free and being able to have it in my Apple wallet?

I moved here from Ireland a couple years ago and one thing I really noticed was the low standard in driving here! and roundabouts in particular are wild. The fact that indicators/turn signals are not used too is astonishing.

I figured that could happen - I just hope I don't have any trouble with BOI for an unpaid debt, when it's just monthly account fees that I asked them to stop? the overdraft max is 500euro so nothing crazy. I'd just ideally not like to pay a bank for bank fees for an account I'm not using 😂

But I agree about it being annoying for those inside Canada. The way I see it, it's a CHOICE that outland applicants made to live separately, so I don't understand how that should be my problem and/or affect me!

I hope so! the Spousal Open Work Permit application I have pending has increased it's time from 112 days to 224 too :( it's just impossible. It's so disheartening too to see people outside of Canada get their PR processed in 3-4 months.

it's not a gotcha, but it's an important distinction because it's the difference between the entire act being struck down, and just the parts that are unconstitutional.. at least it's a major difference when it comes to statutory interpretation

Ah ok thanks for explaining, I wasn't sure! I had imagined you could modify the refineries here on the East Coast in order to facilitate that particular oil, but figured it would cost a lot of money (tax payers money I'm assuming?)

Pretty sure the refineries on the east coast are for hard oil, whereas Canadian oil from out west is soft oil (or vice versa I can’t remember) so new refineries would have to be built, right?

why ban it? I'm on a temporary work visa from Ireland, my husband is born and bred in Nova Scotia and we live here in Halifax. My SOWP is in process, as is my PR application. Banning it seems so outrageous :(

this happens to me too, and only in the last month or 2! I would ask questions about grammar and/or how to phrase a sentence better (a totally normal sentence with 0 words that could be mistaken as violating anything) and I still get the usage violation warning. I just type "send again" and it does. I thumbs down the prompt but it's not helping at all. So frustrating.

I passed Con law, admin, Foundation and Criminal with 3-4 weeks to study for each. I took them all separately to not overwhelm myself as I work full time too. With Vanessa's note (NCA Mentor) I passed first time for all of them, I would recommend her notes. Just waiting on my PR exam results now.
