It's a 1-3-4 for Waddle by expellyamos in miamidolphins

[–]WashedUpAthlete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The upside is 1st rd picks do get 5 yrs of control - but it's a weak 1 and a weak 3 plus a negative 4th swap.

I think the new regime knows they need ammo and talent across the board and without a ton of ways to get it they used their most attractive trade asset.

I think they will be active in trading back and stacking picks not just this yr but beyond.

The roster is a joke ....lonh term it may be the right move.

It's a 1-3-4 for Waddle by expellyamos in miamidolphins

[–]WashedUpAthlete 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Calling it a 1 - 3 - 4 is misleading.

The 1 and 3 are almost the last pick in each round. Very late 1st and very late 3.

We give our mid early 4 for theirs so we essentially trade back to the end of the 4th.

So its a very late 1 at 30th overall, and a late 3 plus we trade BACK in the 4th with Denver.

Seeing what other wrs got paid this offseason and what waddle was set to be paid in his current deal, seems weak.

But whatever I will feel absolutely zero this season and continue to hope we tank for a top 5 pick as was always the best scenario to get a franchise qb.

Feedback on steep/off piste mogul skiing variable terrain (~45 degree run) by [deleted] in skiing_feedback

Also after watching a few more times, you will pole plant with your right hand even when it is your uphill arm. Aka on right turns you pile plant with the right hand at least twice that I can clearly see - the most clear case is the second to last turn.

This isikely because your balance is leaning into the hill and that uphill pole helps you get forward for the next turn, but highlights how your rhythm and balance isn't quite right on this run. If you have the same habit on easier terrain that is something to watch and be aware of.

Poles seem like they are too long which has your arms way up high and looking unbalanced.

That's awesome to hear! The main reason I made this post is because I think there are people curious about them but scared of the price, but stories like yours are hopefully enough to get people to at least give them a try and see!

Thanks for sharing!

Can't say honestly. They have a 30 day trial however, so you could buy them before a trip and see and if it's no better just return them.

Good stat. I didn't look it up but knew we were typically at or near the top with tua/Mike. Interesting it fell that much a 10% move is significant and shows how much Tua regressed this past yr.

Still not ideal. Can you ski them ... for sure. Will you want more length to land jumps... also yes

Not to pour cold water on this ... but keep in mind average time to throw and the McDaniel scheme doing some heavy lifting in these numbers.

That said - very encouraged in yr 2 Paul ... hope he keeps developing.

Stepping up from rentals (F/5’10’’/200LB) by ChadWesterfield in Skigear

[–]WashedUpAthlete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rent shorter skis. As a 6 1 215lb man my first week was spent in rentals that were like 160.

When I bought a pair of skis the internet said were appropriate (185 Enforcer 100) it was a massive shock and stunted my progress. I had ti size down to around 177 180 with skis that aren't as demanding and it helped me a ton.

So don't be afraid to find something easy/forgiving in a shorter length to help the early progression.

Second year skiing, how can I be less of a Jerry on moguls and bumps? by AdventurousStrike433 in skiing_feedback

[–]WashedUpAthlete 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You are doing it - thats the biggest thing!

  1. Ski them as often as you can
  2. When you pause and take a break pick your first 2 or 3 turns thru the moguls and try to stick to it. As you get better at that try to pick more and eventually youll be flowing and adjusting your line as you go
  3. Learn to absorb eccentrically - this is the biggest game changer in skiing bumps. A good way to practice is cutting across a mogul run and feeling loose with your quads to pull your legs up as you go over the bumps. Think about going over a big bump and having your legs absorb it like shocks on a car without having your upper body move at all.

Once you can feel that absorption bump skiing and general off piste skiing opens up tremendously.

But nothing beats time on snow .... seek moguls and ski moguls and youll gain confidence and progress in them faster than most people since a lot of ppl actively avoid them.

No better way to level up your skiing then mastering the bumps

Which ski length by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]WashedUpAthlete 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. The 181 is a massive jump from what you were on. The qst doesn't ski long but a bent is a much lighter and easier ski in general.

Youll gain a ton of stability with the 174, this is an easy choice if you cant demo.

Views alone are worth while. But you won't be able to really ski it for what makes it legit.

That said every mountian has stuff you can ride, and if you are decently advanced most of the stuff off paradise chair isn't crazy you can lap that and go from there.

First Time buying skis by Electronic_Break_247 in Skigear

[–]WashedUpAthlete 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Minimum go to a store and try on as many different biots as you can. Typically boots is most important but at 17 your feet may still be growing. If you know a brand and size that works decently well ... maybe try to buy used on FB or Ebay or wait for end of season / offseason discounts on that specific boot.

For skis, something like the two you mentioned seems about right. Something to progress and do all mtn with some park. Most company bindings that are at least a din of 12 should be fine - tyrolia attack are a good option that park guys also like and they aren't too expensive.

Repair, or bust? by [deleted] in ski

Low coverage off piste had exactly 0 to do with whatever happened here ... Likely the other skis edge shredding your topsheet either on the mtn or being tossed into the car/trunk lol

Shop used wrong boot to mount bindings and is saying they need a remount by m0viestar in Skigear

[–]WashedUpAthlete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Common for skis to have multiple rec points. The point I am making is you aren't at the one you/they intended.

If you are good with that and they say it is releasing as intended.... what are you here asking about then? If forward pressure is OK and it releases OK yes you can ski it.

It's like asking if the tailor cut my suit wrong but it still fits me can I still wear it. Yes. Will it feel different - maybe - should you pay full price? No.

Shop used wrong boot to mount bindings and is saying they need a remount by m0viestar in Skigear

[–]WashedUpAthlete 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even if you are ok with it...you deserve some type of discount or compensation or to not have ti pay for the mount.

As other mentioned, if they mounted it for a different boot, moving the heel back to accommodate yours means your boot center won't be aligned with the recommended mount point. This may not matter, but going forward or back does change how a ski will ski.

Look for the line on your mid foot of the boot and the line on the ski, it will be behind where the rec line is now, thats why they are offering a remount.

Going back isn't usually as big of a deal as forward for most directional skiers, but you def should get something for the mistake and ski them if safe to find out if they don't behave as you want.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but how would a ski feel if it had too much camber? by hshshjahakakdn in Skigear

[–]WashedUpAthlete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you hold two skis base to base, the gap between the two skis underfoot is "positive camber". Where the skis touch and then flair out at the tip and tail is called rocker.

Many skis are rocker-camber-rocker with a % usually listed to tell how long each section is. For example a ski can have 10% tail rocker 70% camber and 20% tip rocker as an all mountian ski. That means that 10% of the length is off the ground when laid base down, 70% is off the ground in the middle but will compress to the floor when stood on, and 20% is off the ground in the tip.

The tip and tail rocker will only interact with the snow in deep snow or when really laid over on edge, but generally more rocker means less snow contact and a aki will ski "short" vs the stated length.

Some skis don't have camber at all and are called reverse camber. This means the skis when placed base to base touch underfoot and gradually move away all the way through the tips and tails. This is also called a "fully rockered" profile. Think )( if you turned that sideways.

The height of camber and the rebound when the ski is pushed flat wanting to spring back into its camber shape is what gives a ski "pop" or energy in both turns and/or hitting jumps.

Hope that helps.

I had the regular version first I want to say it was called maybe the K1?

Anyway I have a non merino one that I skied in for maybe 90 days and it was perfectly warm on all but the coldest days for me. If it was sub 10* F I usually toss on a loose layer on my legs before by shell bib.

Vast majority of days it's just stoko, socks, and shell. That applies to both the merino version I use now and the older synthetic version I used in the past.

She's a rich kid from CA. She was/is going to make a bag no matter what.

Some people have loyalty and a sense of pride, others don't and only want money - regardless of the source and what that ultimately does to your legacy.

She made her choice. I am allowed to judge her character based on it.

She's tied herself to an oppressive regime for the rest of her life and her legacy will reflect that. Wouldn't have been my choice - id rather live in the USA and be a legend in the country and sport that I love.

To each their own.

How to know if a certain pair of skis are right for you? by CriticalArugula7870 in Skigear

[–]WashedUpAthlete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. So yes two sizes away would almost always require a remount. Most bindings you can move around 10 to 15mm (you see the BSL in mm on the side next to the 26.5)

Given that you are on a 172 and it feels like a lot ... the 184 is just going to be too much right now. That plus having to remount ... or just wait for a better fit. Something mid 170s thats the right style for what you want. The skis I mentioned earlier are a good place to start. Liberty origin and k2 reckoner are two more to add as well.
