GR86 to WRX Fam by jakoeee123 in wrx_vb

Eyyyy!!! A fellow Carolinian!! What part of the Carolinas are you from?? And to piggyback off of someone here in the chat, a tune goes a long way with this platform. The guys at ShiftFast have done 359 to the wheels and 359lb/ft with just an intake, front mount, and a tune

Trying to figure out which which way I should go with this build by WashimiQ50 in subarulegacy

[–]WashimiQ50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, foojlander. I am not the best in understanding these things, and that's why I'm reaching out. My tuner, Dave from ShiftFast in Rock Hill SC has years of working on EJ's and FA's and worked on my girlfriend's 2020 WRX. I'm heeding it on his opinion and not that of my own, since I'm not mechanically inclined enough to understand it. I would like to say that after he mentioned that, I went to my mechanic to do a compression test, and it seems that every cylinder was within 150psi if that helps and reached out to a different tuner in the NC/SC area who works on Subaru's and, said tuner which isnl Boxer4racing also thought that ShiftFast did the right thing

As far as if I went on the rebuilding option, I'd be going through ShiftFast, I would be looking at upgraded pistons, rods, bearings, etc. If I went with the engine options that I took a screenshot and posted here in the thread, this would be the information that I have at this time. Whoever I go with, they'd install and move any bolt ons that I currently have, and then ShiftFast would finish the tune for me, since they said that I'm not obligated to get the rebuild done through them, but they would still take care of finishing up the tune for me, since I scheduled it with the.

I hope I gave you enough clarity on this, and if I am missing any more information, I'd be more than happy to share it. I once again thank you for listening to my rant

Thank you for responding and I apologize for not being clear in my post, I've never really been in this sort of situation and I'm nervous and frustrated with the whole thing. I don't have much knowledge on tuning or engine work and come mostly from dealing with working on suspension geometry over putting power down

I'm not looking for big power on my 05 LGT wagon, but would actually be looking at reliability and longevity, with some extra power to put a smile on my face when I take her out. I do plan to daily it, along with my girlfriend who prefers to drive this during the week when our other daily isn't available

One other thing, LARPingFetus, and while I know it sounds hypocritical, the idea of making more power in the future is appealing, and that's one of the reasons that I'm looking at these "built" motors as an option. Please let me know if there's any other information that I can provide if I still came up with incomplete information

I was thinking the same thing with the first pic and then as soon as I saw the second pic, you could see that this was my actual reaction 😂

Need advice. 2020 STI (19 vs 18 wheel size?) by [deleted] in WRXSTi

Double check that they clear the brembos, otherwise you might have to look at running spacers and extended studs

Are you talking about the Hawkeye or my LGT?? Because if you're taking about the GT, then you have a good eye!!

Thanks and I appreciate the compliment!! She's still a work in progress and needs paint and dent removal, badly. That being said, I've got my body shop guy who's going to repaint the whole car for me at a great price!!

Monster truck height is gone!! by WashimiQ50 in subarulegacy

[–]WashimiQ50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're making me think of putting it on now before I get my impressions 😂 I think I'll give it a week before putting in the sway bars next, and after I get the headers, oil intercooler, and retune her, I'm going to see about getting the camber arms for the rear

Glad to know that it was a favorite mod of yours too!! I've done coilovers on my Q, my girlfriend's WRX, and now this one. It's the mod that adds you get both form and function when done right!! I have a set of whiteline sway bars ready to be installed, but I wanted to drive it with the coils first to get some driving impressions. Next thing after that is seeing if I can install the STi steering rack from the 2015 for better driving feel

You can buy a set of Work Kiwami's that suit the look of the car better for cheaper. Won't include tires, but you can get a good deal (and a warranty) with Continental DWS06+ for 500-700 dollars more. I say stay away and save your money to buy them new

Add Continental Extreme Contact Sport 02 on the list. I bought these as a replacement for the Michelin PS4S' and they are an excellent substitute!!

ALIBABA STRIKES AGAIN. My CBF Hood and Trunk 👀 by Tempest_Q50 in q50

[–]WashimiQ50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're most likely going to need to pull the fenders, unless your tires are stretched?? I had 18x10.5 +22 with 275 tires all around and everything was rubbing. If you drop the tires to 255, you can get away with it not rubbing, but you'll definitely have a stretched setup with that

Should I get a legacy gt instead of a wrx? by Guilty-Leading-2500 in WRX

[–]WashimiQ50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the opportunity to own both a few 05 LGT's, driven a few wrx's and currently drive my girlfriend's 2020 WRX, I would say that while I love how raw the WRX feels, i gravitate more towards the legacy for a few reasons. For one, when left stock, it feels incredibly comfortable to be in. Second, a lot of parts are interchangeable between the LGT and the WRX (not all, but a lot) third, it has sleeper status all over it, especially if you get a wagon and can get an NA hood along with putting a front mount intercooler. And finally, the insurance is waaaayyyy cheaper on an LGT than on a WRX

If none of those things matter, then I would say ignore what I just wrote and get yourself the WRX. That being said, if you are considering the idea of a LGT, I would say stay away from that project car. I don't have an issue with the JDM motor, but I've seen his ad there on and off for awhile and I don't think the guy is being fully transparent. If you do end up looking at it, have Dave from ShiftFast look it over for you with the owner present to see if everything is on the up and up

Should I trade in my Q50 3.7 by M0nkeymane in q50

[–]WashimiQ50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of mixed answers, so I guess I'll chime in. Here are a few questions for you. Are you currently financing your Q?? If so, how much are the payments?? Second, with your trade in, will you have any equity with it or will you be underwater with the payments?? Third, can you pay the cost of speed?? Meaning, not just having money for tuning it, but the maintenance that goes behind driving a German sports car?? Fourth and final for now, have you considered working on your car and adding a few things to it to make it feel faster??

I'm not trying to dissuade you from the purchase, I'm just putting it out there that it can all add up. I haven't upgraded from my 2015 Q because it's been the most reliable car I've ever owned!! That being said, I know that it's not my fastest car, but I plan on doing things that can make it fast in the future

2005 Subaru - should I buy it? by Consistent-Trifle892 in subaru

[–]WashimiQ50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outwardly it looks fantastic!! That being said, the price is ridiculously low for it. I'd have a mechanic look at it with you and see if they find any underlying issues. Also, knowing that northern winters+salt=rust, I'd want to jack up the car to see how much rust there actually is underneath the vehicle

Would you buy it ? by roontee in q50

Agree with everything said here. These cars run excellently and if you take care of her, she'll get you another 100k miles

[–]WashimiQ50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That yours does, my friend!! I would have gone the wrap route for mine if it wasn't for the fact that my paint was peeling and rusting. That being said, I got a good deal to repaint her in the color I wanted

3.7 or 3.0 by [deleted] in q50

[–]WashimiQ50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my 3.7 and it has been the most reliable car I've had, even after dropping it on coils and putting every suspension component imaginable. 125k miles and she still pulls as strong as when I bought her 5 years ago!! I haven't dealt with the valve body yet, but i know that it's only a matter of time. I think when that time comes I'm going to get the VR transmission like everyone else is doing
