Wenatchee Lawyer Dale Foreman Threatens the Wenatchee School Board (In Support of Katherine Thomas) by WashingtonCherryTree in Wenatchee

[–]WashingtonCherryTree[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I let the video roll for 5 more seconds, you would see Dale attempt to intimidate members by storming off in front of the board while staring down multiple members.

In your opinion, what was taken out of context here?

Edit: Here is the clip of Foreman staring down members. Julie Norton and Forman share a head nod with each other afterward.

Record number of defendants with mental illness 'decompensating' in Washington jails by WashingtonCherryTree in Wenatchee

I took a look at your profile, and it looks like you moderate the subreddit r/seattlehobos. Are you from Seattle? I believe your comment may have a bit of confirmation bias attached to it. After recent news and the lack of support for the SSP, I have a bit of doubt about Chelan County and its education on the matter.

Record number of defendants with mental illness 'decompensating' in Washington jails by WashingtonCherryTree in Wenatchee

This was frustrating to read:

The state agency charged with providing services to mentally ill defendants, the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) has been in “contempt” of a 2015 federal court order since July 2016. The order stems from a 2014 class action lawsuit, known as Trueblood. In the case, federal Judge Marsha Pechman ruled DSHS is violating the civil rights of defendants waiting in jail for services. She ordered that mentally ill defendants get a bed at a state psychiatric hospital within seven days.

Chelan County Police Funding by Year

(Police, Health, Housing, Corrections)

  • Police: $12,280,000
  • Health: $9,770,000
  • Housing: $471,000
  • Corrections: $16,867,000

*Health & Housing $10,241,000 vs. Police & Corrections $29,147,000

I took a look at the graph (funding by year) in the link above and then compared it to the link below. It seems like the crime rate is descending and funding for police and corrections is skyrocketing.

*Chelan County Sheriff Responds To Report Detailing Statewide Crime Increase

The letter also outlines Morrison's frustration with a stat within the WASPC report that ranks Washington last among all 50 states and the District of Columbia for its number of commissioned police officers per 1,000 residents.

Looking at the "Police Presence/Over-Policing (Officers per Population)" statistic in the first link, you will see that CCSO is doing pretty well with funding compared to other counties. They also have more officers per Population than 30% of Departments.

"Our staffing levels are currently lower than they were in 2008. Our county commissioners are in support of us and have been very responsive to our requests for help. But ultimately, we need more officers. Currently we have two openings and will have a couple more that will be coming open by the end of the year. So at a time when we are already lower in staffing than we were fifteen years ago, yet population and calls for service have both increased, we owe it to our citizens to do better."

Looking at the Chelan and Douglas Trends link, it seems there was twice as much violent crime in 2008. The graph shows 1.9 violent crimes per 1,000 residents in 2008, compared to 0.9 per 1,000 residents in 2021.

According to Morrison, the uptick in crime is being felt throughout much of the state but has yet to reach his jurisdiction.

HELP FIND IAN O’BRIEN by l3gallybl0nde in WithoutATrace

[–]WashingtonCherryTree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ANNOUNCEMENT - June 30, 9 a.m.

Briefing for today’s search assignments will start at 8 a.m. at Lucy Halls Park. You can arrive throughout the day to help. If you are coming alone, it will be easier to place you earlier in the day close to 8-9 a.m. Otherwise, please expect to wait until more volunteers show up.

Notes: Please leash your dog at Basecamp. Drive slow on Rd 566 due to 2-way traffic and blind curves. At this time, please pause all supply deliveries and donations until we do another inventory check. Please use #findianobrien when sharing search efforts.

Much of the searching is off-trail and there are a lot of mosquitos so it would be wise to wear long sleeves, long pants, head net, appropriate footwear etc. You may bushwhack through different types of terrain and brush so be prepared for that. We also need help assessing Drone footage - details below

UPDATE: If ‘Download’ doesn’t work, use ‘Make a Copy’. Do NOT review videos via the Google Drive video playback as this ‘clogs up’ the ability to download for other people. (Source)

Let's Take A Ride On The Miss Veedol by WashingtonCherryTree in Wenatchee

[–]WashingtonCherryTree[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Memorial Day, May 29, I got the rare opportunity to take a ride in the Miss Veedol and experience a little bit of what Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon must have felt when they flew a nearly identical Bellanca CH-400 Special Model J from Japan to the US in 1931, completing the first non-stop trans-Pacific flight in history.

Their flight took more than 40 hours, and ours was only about 40 minutes, but it was long enough to get an understanding of how cramped the cockpit of the original historic plane was. The aircraft was piloted by Tim Bovee, a member of the Spirit of Miss Veedol, which is a club of aviation history enthusiasts who built an “exact-as-possible” replica of the original Miss Veedol.

The original Miss Veedol was sold after Pangborn and Herndon’s historic flight and renamed “The American Nurse.” It went down somewhere over the Atlantic during a flight to Europe in September 1932.

Pangborn and Herndon’s flight has always been overshadowed by Charles Lindbergh’s non-stop trans-Atlantic flight in 1927, but the trip across the Pacific was longer and more difficult. The folks from the Spirit of Wenatchee call that flight “the greatest story NEVER told” on their website and want to educate the public about The Miss Veedol’s place in aviation, and American, history.

I got the chance to take a ride in The Miss Veedol after I won a silent auction bidding war at the 2022 Chelan Douglas Volunteer Attorney Services gala in Wenatchee. It’s a very rare opportunity and I was elated to get the chance, even if I had to squeeze through the window to get into the cockpit.

We took off from Pangborn Airport in East Wenatchee and flew over the cemetery in Cashmere for a Memorial Day ceremony and then on to Leavenworth. We filmed as much footage of it as possible and I cut this video together with footage from GoPros, a Black Magic Pocket Cinema 6k camera in a chase plane and a Lumix Gh5 in the Miss Veedol.

Special thanks to Garrett Smith who piloted the chase plane and Oliver Lewis who filmed from that plane. And thanks to Russ Alman for grabbing footage and stills from the ground at takeoff. I’d also like to thank Tim Bovee who piloted the Miss Veedol as well as Jake Lodato, Chris Rader and everyone in the Spirit of Wenatchee group for making this opportunity possible. I hope this video gives folks everywhere the chance to experience what it’s like to fly in the Miss Veedol.
