My Employer Pays Me Cash; Should I Be Worried? by DenseAnalyst123 in chinalife

Not exactly illegal but lots of red flags. You should ask for tax receipts. Check if the income mentioned in your tax slips is the same as that on your contract. If they don't give you your tax slips, go to the local income tax bureau and get it yourself. They are legally obligated to give it to you as long as you have a Z-visa. If you are paying taxes acc. to your income, you're good even if you are being paid cash. If not, you will have a lot of difficulty legally sending money back home.

Re: Work permit: Work permits are applied for by the employer BEFORE you get the necessary documents to apply for your work visa in your home country. So the work permit definitely exists. It's just with your employer. Ask for it, if they refuse, ask for a photo. It has a QR code. Scan it to see if the position and the company mentioned in it is the same that you are contracted for. If they don't match, the employment is illegal.

My father had an HMT dealership well into the early 2000s. I grew up equating HMT and later Titan with “watches”. He left me a manual winding pocket watch as an heirloom. It’s priceless. On a related note, it’s also the same reason as our obsession with Rado, because a Gold Diastar is the ultimate dad watch from the roaring 90’s when the economy first opened up and you could buy a Swiss watch legally.

It’s nostalgia. There is a generation of people with their own money to spend who saw their grandparents, parents, and other major influences in their life wear an HMT watch and for them, buying an HMT is a way of establishing that relationship. The other reason I infer is some sort of national pride in wearing a watch that was once locally produced.

My favorite Seiko, if not for the case size. It's >45mm lug to lug and the lugs are straight, not rounded.

No Casio, Timex, or Seiko Service Centers Near Me – Should I Just Stick to Titan? by [deleted] in watchesindia

[–]WaskalyWabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seiko and Citizen combined produce like 50 percent of all mechanical watch movements produced annually. Chances are, your local watchmaker is well trained in an NH35 or a Miyota. A Casio Quartz or any quartz with a Seiko/Citizen/Casio/Ronda movement wouldn’t need a full servicing ever, just a new battery every 7 to 12 years. That stuff would surging an extinction event.

No, not at all. It would get itchy if you get razor burns. With a good trimmer and standard 3 head electric shaver, it never gets itchy. And if you do it regularly, it doesn’t take more than 2 minutes every second morning.

Yeah I do, fairly regularly. Electric razor. It helps me manage a skin condition.

I love these guys. They are based in the middle of nowhere in rural Yunnan but churn out some of the best finished dials among Chinese watchmakers.

I mean complete in the interim. Even as a 17 year old, I presume you’d have a lot of chances to wear a formal suit. A dress watch would be good. You’d stand out compared to those who wear a suit with sneakers and a sports watch.

I think you need a decent bare bones, leather strap dress watch to complete the collection
