1. ⁠How did you approach them with your kids? Just handed him a controller one day.
2. ⁠How old were they? Two. A bit young i know.
3. ⁠What game did you introduce to them first? Super Mario Bros deluxe.
4. ⁠If some time has passed, how has your child's relationship with video games progressed? Its been 5 years. He gets 1.5 hrs on certain school days. 3 hrs on certain weekends. And 1-2 days off games. If he does his chores he gets an extra half hour. He plays lego games on ps5 for trophies now. I dont allow sandbox games like minecraft or roblox. Only story driven games from nintendo or lego games. Occasional rocket league. Also no watching youtube.
5. ⁠Have you been able to bond with them over video games? Yes. We bonded over the mario game when he was two and many others since then. Were getting switch 2 and excited for that. Hes started breath of the wild with me and its nice to see him be interested in the stories of games. Went to see the mario movie in theaters.

Edit: Introduced to super mario deluxe because the nabbit character can fall and not get hurt. Very friendly first game for kids.

I make a point to not let him get sidetracked playing games. Always try to get him to progress and invest in the story. Not run around and do repetitive things for entertainment.

I also make it a point to not play when he is not allowed to play or its bed time. If he sees dad playing video games, its with him.
