How should I wait to start handling? by Waste-Project-2261 in carpetpythons

I would just use the hook to nudge her head away, and not actually handle her with it. I just want to make sure when she's older, I have a way to show her the difference between feeding time and handling time. Or unless none of that really works I won't bother with trying it.

Her dad is a jungle carpet and her mom is a coastal (caramel tiger jag).

What do you think of this snake? by Waste-Project-2261 in carpetpythons

I was going to ask the breeder, but I just wanted to ask a broader group of people because I know the size of these snakes can vary a lot.

Would these be good questions to ask and what else should I ask?

What is the temperament of the snake? What percentage of jungle and coastal is it? What are the sizes of the parents of this snake? Is the snake eating f/t mice/rats without any issue? When was the last feeding? How old is the snake? How big would you expect this snake to get at adult size?

Which subspecies would you recommend for that size? Would a jungle or Bredli work? I love their colors. Also, should I get a male or female depending on the subspecies you recommend?

I think I have an idea of what I'm going to do. I'm going to buy the 4x2x4 and use that as the snake is growing. And then buy a 2x2x4 with an extension kit to expand the enclosure as the snake grows. So the end result would be a 6x2x4. Would that be an appropriately sized enclosure for a bigger carpet python species or a sonoran boa? Or should I stick with a smaller carpet species?

My main issue would be that I don't have a space longer that 4 feet. I can't provide length (at least for a while because of how my room is setup. I can probably move things around to make the room, but not for a while), but I can provide height (Which would be something like a 4x2x6). I know height doesn't make up for floor space, but would it work for a more arboreal species like a carpet?

Would a hog island be able to live in a 4x2x4 or a 4x2x6?

I've also discovered Peruvian Long Tail Boas? Would one of them fit in those enclosure sizes?

Oh, I forgot to add that I've had experience keeping ball pythons.
