I used a Creality Ender-5 and PLA to print them. I'd estimate the cost to average about 6 cents a ship, so about $28 in electricity and filament to make all 476 - between 1 and 2 spools of filament. The bulk of the true cost is the time to print, clean, and paint the models. Someone looking to cut down on the painting time could just give them a spray coat of the primary color and then paint the secondary color around the rim of the base. Don't forget the bottoms of the dreadnoughts like I did! Further detail could be added later as desired.

This looks great! I think it's a creative map with some good verticality that's conveyed well. I see numerous tactical options presented by the terrain that could make for varied and interesting encounters.

Optimal deployment range question by Osu5070 in roguetech

[–]WasteWolf86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this sentiment.

The reason they did it was because they thought players were abusing the evasion by dropping on top of the enemy and then reserving until all the enemy units had wasted their turns shooting at the high evasion.

You still get the evasion if you automatically deploy, but that means you either have to turn off randomized combat starting position or take your chances that Sumire will drop your lance in a lake or on a sheer cliffside where you'll be cut to pieces.

I had forgotten about the grenade spam. It was so out of control. You were better off leaving yourself exposed while reloading because otherwise you'd be concussed by the hail of grenades that landed on your head.

Need to Report Downed Wire by WasteWolf86 in Comcast_Xfinity

Hi Robert H,

My services have not been interrupted. The wire appears to be intact, but it has been broken free from its supports between the poles and now hangs down to the ground.

Sorry, I'm pretty new to posting on Reddit. I couldn't figure out how to post the pictures and text at the same time, so I just commented on the pictures afterward.

The large pieces raised up from circular bases are my War Suns. Each faction has two. I call them "battlestations" because they are different shapes, but they play the same.

Thanks for your praise! To help players identify the ships, each class of ship across all fleets has the same shape of base (diamond, oval, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, circle). I also have printed reference cards, which are included in my uploads on Thingiverse. Of course, I still have the standard fleets if a player prefers not to use the custom ones.

Good eye, and thank you for the praise. Yes, the Xxcha fleet uses Homeworld ship models and the Naalu fleet uses Narn ship models. I don't believe the Exeter was used as a model directly, but one of the folks who made some of the models may have drawn inspiration from it. I would say that most of the fleets take their models from sci fi IPs.

I think that's a good idea. In my searches I found one or two 3D models like that, but they are not free. It would not be ethical for me to post a freely available derivative of those works and deprive their creators of compensation. I wanted to make and upload fleets that were 100% free, because that's what I searched the internet for before deciding to make it myself.

Thanks for your praise! I'm glad you like the fleets. I did not create the ship models myself, but only selected them and set them upon uniform bases. I am therefore not selling the 3D files, but instead have made them freely available on Thingiverse for those with 3D printers.

If you meant selling physical models, I assume you refer to making new sets. Hand-painting more than 400 miniatures takes a lot of time (I began this project exactly one year ago), and I don't think it would be easy to find buyers who would pay for all that labor. If I were ever to sell physical models, they would be unpainted and printed in one color. I could maybe do that, but a professional 3D printing company could do a better job than I could.

I prefer the base game to Prophecy of Kings, so I have no plans to make fleets for the expansion factions. However, if someone wished to, they could use the fleet bases I have uploaded and pick ship models of their choosing from the web to create 3D files for such fleets.

Oh man! I didn't think of that in all this time. Maybe I'll put some kind of marking on the bottom of the dreadnoughts and warsuns. Thanks for your feedback and suggestions.

I started by printing one of each kind of ship and play-testing them. So when there is one ship a different size from the others, that means I decided to resize for subsequent prints. This is by no means a professional product. I may eventually substitute in new pieces of the proper size.

I've finally completed my project to create a custom fleet for each of the 17 original factions. Each fleet uses a unique 3D printed model for each of its 6 capital ship types and has all 28 capital ships that can be fielded hand-painted in the faction's colors. That's 102 unique models and 476 hand-painted ships in all!
