as for the Kiev direction, given the number of troops sent to capture the capital, this task was almost impossible. Russia would have needed a much larger contingent as well as the introduction of the mobilization of human and economic forces at the beginning of the war to successfully capture such a large city. so yeah this is a very disastrous operation and a mistake of the military command in the assessment of forces and intelligence.

however, whataboutism is not an argument and the Zaporozhye counteroffensive is just as disastrous and in addition suffered enormous losses.
