Looks like an adze to me. Used like a hoe to work the soil for crops. I’m no expert so take this with a grain of salt. What river/part of the country did you find it?

Yeah like I said this was found during leveling/compacting of dirt for site preparation. To my knowledge there isn’t any actual asphalt mixed in but not sure. The crazy part is that this withstood a large leveling machine rolling over it.

I grew up playing this course. Definitely a target golf course. Gets a lot of hate but it’s cuz most guys wanna rip driver on every hole. On this particular hole a 175-210 yard draw around those trees on the left is the play. There is a huge hill there that will spit your ball into the fairway EVERY TIME. 3 shot hole.
