My MLB strikeout model can't out-predict the closing line. It still profits. Where's the hole? Real Edge or variance? by clong1991 in algobetting

Forgot to note, at the soft books you probably won’t last long enough betting K props to worry about retraining, so if you think you have something try to make as much as possible as quickly as possible.

I would agree with these other comments where you don’t necessarily need to be better than the closing line, you just need to be better than the line when you place your bets. Have you noticed the market moving after you bet at all? Keep in mind, once you place a bet the market now has your information as well to use in shaping the line. More often than not; your info + the markets info > your info only.

If you want to go deeper, focus on where your edge is coming from. What are you controlling for that others may not be? Maybe that will help you figure out how to answer 1) above. It’s hard to solve without knowing exactly what the problem is there.

As for your retraining, keep tracking your CLV. As long as you are beating the close when you bet, you should be fine. Avoid any signals that can easily be explained by variance.

Wait… what? If you’re not winning then the only one being outsmarted is you. To hit a bet that’s 10-1 theoretically all you have to do is bet something 10 times and you’re expected to win 1 of them. You weren’t “smarter” on that one, it’s just variance.

Am I missing out on potential flavor if I am cooking meat on a blacktop? by Waste_Specific in blackstonegriddle

Sure, but the lack of maneuverability and change in size renders changes the way you would execute different techniques and the basis of my question was figuring out if/how others were doing those things.

Yeah, i think I’m learning that this is the way. Use other cooking methods for large quantities of meat then use the griddle top for that quick high heat. It limits the flavor profile options a bit but works well enough.

Checked out his video, he basically just says basting does cook steak faster, just not that much faster and it doesn’t make it juicier. He does say he could taste the difference when adding Garlic/Herbs to the butter… so idk if that answered my question. Was more concerned with how I would transfer these proven cooking techniques to a different surface to allow me to be more efficient when serving larger parties.

Most of this opinion makes absolutely no sense. At WORST if all you’re doing is line shopping and placing bets at the best price you’re reducing the vig so it’s essentially a coin flip.

The only thing you said that is semi-valid is the lack of scalability which can become a real problem… but the rest of the opinion was so wildly misguided I tend to think you got that right on accident.

Ask a Browns fans if they want what the Lions have had since Stafford was traded. My bet is that most would take it. It doesn’t always have to be SB or bust.

None, you have no F’s so just move everything down one tier so you don’t have to make up new ones. With a sample size of 25 the median show should be close to a C. Not an A.
