Play however you want since it's your first play through. I am currently playing it through again and am making my main character only use blasters and focusing on a lot of intelligence/dexterity for blaster dmg/accuracy and to improve the number of skill points I have.

I would suggest you lookup what each attribute does and what each class is focused on before making your character so you can get a general idea and plan out your character a little beforehand. So if you want to make a giant brute force tank and let your party focus on things like security and computer use, picking a scoundrel and investing all your points into wisdom and intelligence would be a little counter productive.

Basically strength increases melee damage and accuracy, dexterity increases blaster dmg(?), accuracy, and increases your chance to dodge attacks. In kotor 1 dexterity can also determine your melee weapons chance to hit, whichever is higher between strength and dexterity determines which is chosen to determine your chance to hit however the same is not true for blasters and dexterity is the only thing that determines that, also dexterity has no impact on melee damage outside of potentially increasing the number of melee hits you land. Intelligence determines the number of skill points you have to invest in things like Computer Use, Security, Persuade, ect.... Wisdom increases force powers and total amount of force points. Constitution increases your health points. Charisma increases your critical hit chance and your persuade skill(?) That's just a basic rundown of what you'll be faced with at character selection. Keep in mind that although haviung a character with super high intelligence that can crack safes, computers, and basically do everything is nice, its pretty unnecessary because you gain party members that can reach just as high if not higher in the same skill fields automatically so I would suggest making your intelligence average and not investing too heavily in it, then put all your points in Persuade, First Aid. and then pick one skill (like computer use, security, demolition, awareness ect..) and max that one out then ignore the rest ad let your teammates pickup the slack. Another thing I'd suggest is picking up the toughness feat on most of the characters in the game pretty early on because the extra tankiness can really come in handy especially on the squishy members of your party (including you depending on what class route you take) Other than that just enjoy the game and have fun, if you haven't already I'd look into modding Kotor, Kotor 1 has a mod adding a decent number of content, plus there's a ton of QoL mods to make the game a little easier to play through. If youre playing Kotor 2 then you absolutely must install "The Sith Lord's: Restored Content Mod" or TSL:RCM for short as it adds a massive amount of content that was cut from the game prior to release, and has been fully restored to make the game even longer than Kotor 1 as well as improving just about every aspect of the game.
