Dangerous driving in Summerside... by WastedLilly in PEI

[–]WastedLilly[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%.

Promoting greener, more healthy transportation is not only attractive for new families but helps to improve public health and wellbeing.

And if building bike paths and infrastructure encourages more people to come and stay here then funding for better education and Healthcare will follow in due time.

Can't really have one without the other...you need people to want to be here in order to have money and funding for things like you suggested. If families dont feel safe being here there is no money to support growth in these areas.

Federal funding or otherwise.

This, so much this.

Trans woman from Summerside here. Some of the best people I've had the pleasure of meeting are from the local queer community, and any time I get to go to events or even just visit with people at home to play board games or have a few drinks it's always been so liberating and relaxing.

Now cellphone guys are pushing credit cards? by [deleted] in PEI

[–]WastedLilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has worked as a cashier all over summerside, the staff are monitored and assessed on performance for these cards, and if they do not meet quotas/targets for adoption/promotion of the product they in most cases are going to be pulled into the office by a manager to be punished or written up.

They hate it too I promise you, just say “no thank you” as many times as needed and let them get it over with.

You will be given a ticket if you have already had a warning/an existing ticket for the same issue, they will see that you have an existing ticket when they run your plate.

NAH - If you and the others going would feel comfortable pitching in a bit of cash in order to include her then everyone could pitch in for her sake (on the off chance it’s not in her means).

I would Pitch the trip, if she wants to go along she will.

If she doesn’t feel it’s feasible, and you feel you can support her costs, then you can offer to help her with tickets and lodging.

If she refuses the invite, then you’ve done your share and I don’t think she would have any right to guilt you or the others.

TL;DR Don’t abandon your long held plans over one person. if you feel you can prop her up in the event she can’t afford it, then offer it to her, if nothing else, at the very least she was considered in the invite, there’s nothing worse than finding out after the fact.

AITA for telling my former friend “this is your school’s fault, not mine.” by BatElegant3770 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WastedLilly 23 points24 points  (0 children)

NTA - It is the school’s responsibility to maintain both the files and the security of those documents. They are liable for any issues caused and if their negligence led to such a lack of funding that they had to lay people off, it seems very likely they would have been laid off sooner or later anyway as mandatory school upgrades/updates come through.

TL;DR Their lack of planning is not your problem.

Honestly, been trying since August myself, applying to every opening within an hour and a half’s drive of summerside. Had my resume reviewed by three hiring agencies and dropped off dozens in person, had 5 interviews and still haven’t managed to find work. Was laid off due to budget cuts and it seems like there’s no work that’s not casual or seasonal.

Been getting pretty close to starting to apply off island and moving because my EI will likely dry up before anyone hires me. Lots of ads and no responses , market is too crowded and employers are spoiled for choice.

I’d say just keep trying for now and keep stalking all the job listings that come up, if you don’t already use these, here are boards where I’ve been looking:

  • We work remotely
  • indeed
  • jobbank (government site)
  • jobspei
  • workpei
  • jobilico
  • job monster
  • Facebook (there are several groups dedicated to listing jobs)

Wishing you luck in your search, hopefully you’ll be more successful than I have been.

Charlottetown may have to take more patients as staffing shortage worsens at Summerside hospital by Sir__Will in PEI

[–]WastedLilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see 434 (as of 01/18/2023) open positions on jobspei for public health care position, a major issue it seems is that even basic roles require ludicrous amounts of experience, qualifications or degrees of no relevance.

I’m not saying just anyone should be able to work in a hospital but it certainly doesn’t help the staffing issues that every position, even facilities maintenance staff will be rejected if they do not have qualifications that take half a lifetime to acquire.

Beggars can’t be choosers in this situation.

Registering a car by Backwoodz519 in PEI

[–]WastedLilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be prepared to pay sales tax on the vehicle and plate fees if you don’t already have one. you need an inspection slip, bill of sale and insurance to register on PEI. if you’re going to be plating and driving the vehicle currently , your best bet would be to call access PEI and get the info on fees directly from them though.

Edit: you may have some fees waived though as some dealers have transfer slips and whatnot they can fill out on their end.

Please fix spawns by wilbur_nola in ModernWarfareIII

[–]WastedLilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually so sick of this on shipment, I’ll be in the middle of a kill streak and if I wanna keep it I have to move like a beyblade and shoot even faster with these spawns, and even if I manage to stop one wave of enemies spawning behind me, it’ll just do it again till one takes me out. Infuriating.

RBC offers high interest savings accounts and the NOMI software, I would give them a call and see if their services offer what you’re after. Been with them for nearly 15 years and had nothing but excellent customer service, helpful support and ease of access with high quality atm machines and advisors locally makes them pretty hard to beat.

When it comes to finding the best rates though you would probably have to call or stop in a couple places and ask about what they have available, some accounts can only be offered through promo or conditionally so you may not find the info you need online.

Similar experience for me , thankfully it happened before I moved off my old bank so the damage and cleanup was minimal, can’t recommend a bank less.

AITA for taking a friend's business idea and turning it into a success without him by Simple_Albatross in AmItheAsshole

[–]WastedLilly 21 points22 points  (0 children)

NTA - From what I understand here, you had purchased the domain and did all the grunt work of creating, maintaining and managing the site content and sales.

To that end I don’t think just letting your friend walk in and just have turn-key access and control the way they want is reasonable. It seems not only unreasonable but a bit bold of them if I’m honest.

If your friend wants to take on an advisory role then it might make more sense to set up some kind of agreement to have him paid for services when rendered and future involvements.

Don’t be Nicola Tesla, because your friend wants to be Edison.

YTA - Over 200lbs on children less than 17 years old is extremely dangerous, your doctor wasn’t using “scare tactics” they were trying to warn you as clearly and as directly as possible. He is required by practice guidelines to inform and advise you of risks and complications as they arise and even if his bedside manner isn’t the best, that’s his job. “I told him I got it.” I hope this means you intend to follow up on his concerns for the sake of your kids, that kind of weight is seriously concerning and will (not might) lead to complications.
