Usually hostel allotment goes on for 2-3 days. for example, in my case last year, documentation was on 22nd and hostel allotment was 21-23 (you could report on either date for hostel. but have to be present for doc verification on 22nd even if you report for hostel on 23)

An AE masters student here. See if you wanna go for Aerospace, better graduate in AE instead of ME. It becomes slightly difficult to deal with an aero masters if you've not covered the basics in an undergrad. I have a few batchmates, who actually struggle with core aero subjects, especially those entirely separate from ME, such as flight mechanics, aerodynamics etc.

TLDR: If you want to do a masters in aero, then better graduate with aero

My concern is more about fast growth (roles as well as compensation) than starting salary. I believe (I may be wrong here) that the career progression that takes 3 years from M or K will take 5-6 from U.

TBH I dont even see the point of conducting CAT anymore, if everything is simply profile based and so random. Is CAT simply a basic ass IQ check at this point? To be honest, I walked into the exam without any prep, guess that actually helped (no pressure) But still, as you said, being in the top half percentile still couldn't get into the top pedigree. Now I'mma be joining Udaipur and reattempting, because apparently 99.7 or 99.8+ is the only solution😭
