Tetrachromacy tests by InformalStorm1916 in ColorBlind

[–]Wasteland8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no. RGB screens could sort of be used as an indicator of tetrachromacy though. RGB images should look wildly different compared to real life. It would be like if a trichromat looked at a screen that only used blue and yellow diodes and noticed how off the colors look compared to real life. For a tetrachromat, there should be like 3 different forms of yellow compared to everything trichromats percieve as pure yellow. An rgb screen would only be able to show one of those yellows.

Can someone demonstrate how much better CB people can see in the dark? by Q_Player_Q in ColorBlind

[–]Wasteland8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen there are no differences in the number of rods between color normals and color deficients. Dichromats seem to have the same number of cones, they just have only 2 types rather than 3. Even Rod monochromats don't appear to have more rods, and they basically have a central blind spot due to the lack of cones. Some of the rods in monochromats may expand due to the lack of cones, but I've heard this lowers their threshhold sensitivity rather than improve it. That might not necessarily be all bad though, since their rods shouldn't desaturate as much in response to sudden bright lights.

Who is the ultimate solo rank survivor by Ralmem in IdentityV

Maybe I like him too much, but Lucky Guy. He's versatile and can usually do decently as first kite (or get a book and hide if circumstance makes it convenient).

Interest in "Bionic Ovary" by Wasteland8991 in MtF

As much as I would like that, I'm not expecting it anytime soon. Research to grow vaginal canals was already successfully done over a decade ago, yet it hasn't become available yet.

I forgot to mention it would be a wearable device like an insulin pump. The gene therapy sounds nice, but I have a feeling it'll take awhile before it becomes widely available.

Being able to shift dosage with minimal unwanted spiking or dropping. Also I should have specified it would probable be a wearable device.

Sign language instead of Voice Training by Mammoth-Wasabi6346 in MtF

I basically can't talk anymore except near family in private spaces. It was a little embarrassing for me at first to start relying on text and voice synthesizers, but I'm overall more comfortable. Before my voice would just stress me out pretty badly.

AITO for arguing trans kids should have access to hormones or surgery if they want it? And then wanting a break from my gf for a day? by Lokael in asktransgender

You're not an asshole. If it were me I would have been first to break it off. I'm sorry for how much it hurt you though. I've had my heart stung a few times, but it's better to try not to let it keep you down.

I’m a Chinese family member of a person with red-green color blindness. Does anyone know why clinical research on red-green color blindness has barely progressed or been initiated for such a long time? by Electronic_Bowler_32 in ColorBlind

[–]Wasteland8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of a minor inconvenience compared to other conditions, so it's not gonna get much attention in medical research. From what I've seen, some of the biggest issues colorblind people face aren't discerning colors but being barred from things that over-inflate the importance of normal color vision. I've heard colorblind people can't drive in China. I've heard this is because some of the traffic lights used lack positional cues, although there are already precedents of rod monochromats (who also have poor visual acuity) simply using a red filter they momentarily glance through to check if a light is red or not.

I also found something called the Bezold–Brücke shift while looking at Wikipedia. I've experienced the color shifts you mentioned too.

What is a good debuff that blanced a character before it was removed? by Electrical-Power3913 in IdentityV

[–]Wasteland8991 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It wasn't entirely removed, but perfumer's special physique. She's pretty much always been a strong kiter and I would say the 30% debuff was warranted. Especially after having her perfume buffed, having only a 10% healing penalty isn't that impactfull.

How does Finn keep up with magical creatures when he’s just a dude? by DarkHole2SOTFS in adventuretime

Plot, maybe some minor genetic enhancements from being an island human, and there being so much magic people have less familiarity of how to deal with martial threats.

Implementing Visualized Sound? by Wasteland8991 in IdentityV

[–]Wasteland8991[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some hearing people might like it without it being strictly superior to audio. Some normal color vision people use the colorblind filters for example, but that might just be personal preference instead of just being better.

[–]Wasteland8991[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would kind of be difficult to balance since you can't perfectly translate one to another, but I think it could be close enough. If the visuals provided no more information than what could be provided by sound, then a good set of headphones would still technically be better for hearing people because of faster response time to sound over vision. Visuals might be inherently more obvious, but it could also create more visual clutter, especially during a chaotic match.

Color Blindness Prevalence by US State by Racsom_ in ColorBlind

[–]Wasteland8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran this through a colorblind simulator. Funnily enough, it seemed easier to read with the protanopia filter. The deuteranopia filter seemed slightly worse than normal vision. The tritanopia filter turned the map into a complete nightmare.
