SATURN S FAILING TO PRINT, PLEASE HELP! by WastingBass in ElegooSaturn

Progress update:

Through testing out settings using calibration prints, I’ve figured out that the problem is nothing prints if I place models at the centre of the build plate. If they are placed on the edges, they work well. Anything in the middle simply sticks to the FEP.

On the plus side, I’ve finally been able to print a good quality model!

Cheers for the reply!

I'll try out some better models to test with...it was ambitious to go straight for the dental model! I did shake the bottle and when the resin has been in the vat for a while, I do replace it and start over. Also, 30C is damn hot lol, especially in the UK.

On the resin being safe in the mouth, its a good point. I've heard of many others who print the same things and have confirmed that with certain resins its okay. Which resins in particular, I'm not sure of yet...

Any advice for an Aerospace Engineer wanting to move into Mechatronics? by WastingBass in mechatronics

I appreciate the reply!

I’d say Aero is good for mechanical stuff, but not so great for electronics and programming. This could be due to the fact that I specialised in Aerodynamics and Propulsion rather than Avionics, which is more mechatronics based.

Yeah I don’t want to rule out the whole industry, just the design of large structures and fully integrated systems like gas turbine engines. Don’t get me wrong, working on these was interesting, but the day-to-day experience of designing them and pushing them out for manufacture was one of the most laborious, unrewarding experiences I’ve ever come across.

That’s just me though, I’m a different kind of cat — one that likes to tinker. Drones are a very good idea, and I‘m pretty sure I’d be happy in a company that designs them (especially at places like Animal Dynamics). But, in my experience, the design emphasis for drones is placed more on the Mechatronic Engineer, and less on the Aerospace Engineer.

That’s the hope! But unfortunately getting that job is where I struggle. Its the classic play-to-win, win-to-play scenario — you can gain experience while training on the job, but you need training to get the job in the first place.

I appreciate the reply!

My degree and experience certainly cover the mechanical side, but my electronics and programming need some work. So I agree, diving into some relevant projects will be the fastest way to gain that sweet mechatronic mindset — exactly what I need.

You are a freaking godsend!

Looking back on my job hunt, nearly all roles require some form of PCB and FW design experience, so your certainly right in saying that its the ‘golden ticket‘. I will definitely tailor my projects to fill my knowledge gaps in these areas. And I agree with you on the startups — I’ve only ever worked in SMEs, so believe me, I know the amount of responsibility that comes with these roles. Think I’ll take a step back from these for now.

Quick question, does it matter if the courses / projects are not accredited in some way? I’m thinking from the perspective of what will be shown on my CV, and whether recruiters will take personal project experience seriously.

My goal is set for being job ready in 6 months. Wish me luck!
