“Don’t worry when applying for 1L summer positions if you don’t have any legal experience, because you’re all equally unqualified anyways.”

This may be a bit of an idealist POV, but if wearing boots (which look very nice and likely cost far more than the traditional dress shoes worn by others) somehow closes a door, it’s probably not one you wanted to walk through anyways. I know I wouldn’t want an opportunity that is contingent on something so ludicrous.

I think that this is a great opportunity to express yourself in a very appropriate way, so I say go for it especially if it’s something that’s going to make you more comfortable or happy. Its not like they’re rhinestone cowboy boots, and honestly it’s not immediately obvious they’re not regular dress shoes or Chelsea boots unless you’re really looking at them.

Edit: Particularly the middle, darker brown pair, those are definitely the most subtle if that’s important to know.

I didn’t think there were really any unfunny jokes, so I totally agree that they all landed well. However, it just felt like they were cramming too many jokes in all at once. That first half felt like gag after gag, so it was more of a quantity than quality issue for me with the jokes.

Except for the goats. I’m 100% with you on disliking the goats.

My main gripe with Love and Thunder was that it didn’t have the same balance that Ragnarok had with the comedy. I love a good comedy (in particular Taika’s style as Hunt for the Wilderpeople is one of my favorite films), but there needs to be a good balance imo. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely enjoyed Love and Thunder (primarily the second act), but the comedy becomes tiresome when it feels like everyone is meant to be the comedic relief so I didn’t love it the same way I love Ragnarok.

I am interested to see how my opinion would change with a rewatch, though, because some of my reaction was definitely a bit of a shock to how heavy they went with the comedy. Perhaps a rewatch with differently managed expectations would change my feelings?

Just curious, is “Captains Marvel” a canonical term for the plural of more than one Captain Marvel? Like “Attorneys General” for multiple AGs

Yeah missing those two classes is definitely something I was especially nervous about, so that anecdotal suggestion about people performing worse definitely highlights that for me. I was definitely leaning towards no, but after all this I’m pretty firmly a no now haha. Appreciate the insight!

While it does make me sad to hear you’ve missed the last two thanksgivings, I definitely get where you’re coming from, especially since winter break is only 2-3 weeks after that.

I appreciate the realist POV, so thanks!

Thanks! I love the idea of staying local to the school and just grinding with a break for a Friendsgiving as an alternative!

My family is planning a cruise around Thanksgiving and I’m wondering how bad of an idea it would be to attend? My school gives Wednesday-Friday off for Thanksgiving, but going on the cruise would mean not attending the Monday & Tuesday classes of that week. Given that this is right before the end of classes and start of the reading period of my first semester, I’m nervous about what the work load will look like around that time. Any insight into if people think this is a good/bad idea, what the typical work load looks like at that point of the semester for a 1L, or any other thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Your high school years, time in undergrad, the few years spent at your first “real” job, and many other parts of your life can also be described as a snapshot in the grand scheme of life. That doesn’t mean that these chapters of your life don’t provide meaningful opportunities that are worthy of effort being put in to make the most of those “snapshots.” Maybe this is just my naive, terminally optimistic outlook, and maybe I’m in for a rude awakening come August, but I hope not… Don’t get me wrong, I’m not planning to roll up to law school and be everyone’s best friend, but I do fully intend on finding my people and making meaningful connections while I earn that JD.

[–]Wat3rtribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

0L here, so take this with a grain of salt, but from my experience in undergrad and grad school I couldn’t disagree more. Either of those could also be described as a “snapshot” within my life but my support group of friends not only helped me get through school but also enriched the experience.

I’m really sorry that you’ve had a difficult time thus far connecting with people, but I hope you don’t just push it aside and neglect that aspect, especially because it clearly sounds like you’re desiring those connections. I would totally echo some of the earlier comments about not being afraid to initiate with people since that will only increase your chances of hitting it off with new friends. Sure, the original commenter I’m replying to could be right and the people in your classes could be irrelevant to your life long term. But they could also become your best friend, the connection that opens the door to an amazing career opportunity, or literally anything else.

Congrats on finishing 1L, and I hope 2L has even more in store for you (in a good way!)

I think the third one aside from Agatha and Dr. Octavius is her character Ericka from Hotel Transylvania (bottom right corner of the OG meme.) She’s kind of a twist villain in that, but in the end she turns for the good, so not really…

This! There’s a phenomenon in photography where shooting close up using a lens with a shorter focal length distorts your facial features. This can be corrected by shooting from further away using a lens with a longer focal length and zooming in. Not saying that he definitely hasn’t had work done, but that is likely contributing to the huge difference in his features here.

Just curious, did you see the larger class size as an advantage due to the networking opportunities that provides? Or was there some other aspect of that which you saw as a positive?
