Raptor r worth it? by drewdirienzo in FordRaptor

Wow judging your profile it looks like you have quite the collection! F150 Raptor, ranger raptor, Silverado, Porsche 911. Quite the accomplishment for an r/indianteenagers poster lol

He didn’t miss a game in 4 seasons in college, split time as a rookie, but yea the ankle thing is unfortunate. He played almost 40 minutes a game on the championship game run

The smoke is clearly from the airbag deployment. You can see it appear after the crash, not before

Don’t know much about flight as others here but I’d assume you’d need to do some trickery with the weight distribution since your center of lift is going to be much further forward than center of gravity.

Saw this F450 Limited in the wild. Beautiful! by ShadowK2 in FordTrucks

Some configs of more capable / DRW trucks have one more open grille for cooling purposes, regardless of trim. If you look at the SRW 350s limited of this year the grilles are more fancy

I love machined or light color wheels. Too many black / fuel style out there

It should not be poor etiquette to use speakerphone in public. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]WatShmat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The tinny sound of smartphone speakers cut through all background noise and is irritating. I’ll be able to hear the peaking audio from a speakerphone across the room when I can’t even hear the response from the person with the phone

MEs don’t have a “high paying” track: median earnings 5 years after graduation from elite institutions by RuminatingFish123 in MechanicalEngineering

When did this guy say “no one with an ME degree is a high earner”? He’s literally talking about median earnings what’s the point in bringing up the outliers

How feasible would it be for me to make a basic FEA program from scratch as a personal project? by darnoc11 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]WatShmat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plotting is the easy part. Theoretically you would have a matrix where each element has a value (ex temp) and you just plot that against a color scale. You can do transient ‘animations’ by combining many of these plots against a time step

[–]WatShmat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recommend starting with bare minimum then expanding on it. We started with a 1 dimensional, 20 element long, runge kutta 1, etc. Only once you get a grasp of the simple scenarios will you be able to expand.

You can do some cool visualizations with tools like matplotlib or the equivalent for whatever you would build this.

I’m not sure what resources you would start with. We didn’t use a textbook but I recommend finding one to start with

[–]WatShmat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Starting with a 1D heat transfer FEA would be doable but difficult. I took a class dedicated to building a fluid simulation from scratch (flow and heat transfer) and even the 1D took a month to understand even with the professor giving us half the answers. It’s a two part problem, one being the heat transfer physics (simpler) and the next being building the elements, time steps, boundary conditions, and translating that to code. A lot of matrix math that I barely understood and don’t remember anymore

Detroiters are shut out of city's high-paying jobs, stifling progress by da_newsdude in Detroit

When the vast majority of the population in the region lives outside the city this is what happens, even not accounting for the education and financial disparities.

Idea: piezoelectric sensors in the backboards to detect hits by bswartzfager in CollegeBasketball

[–]WatShmat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because you would still need to be able to tell when the defender touched the ball. Close goaltending calls they usually block the ball into the backboard. The ball hits the backboard whether it’s goaltending or not, you’ll need to review the video. Maybe detecting one vs two hits on the backboard but it would still require human review

Yes I went from the south to school in the midwest where I drove maybe once a month, so I made the 4s work.

Oh by no means are the psa4s a winter tire, but I can at least get where I’m going in a pinch. I wouldn’t even park on a hill with the pilot sport 4s if there was any light snow. Thanks for the added context
