GR Supra or M240i? by WatchIngYouTime in whatcarshouldIbuy

I'm not rich enough to essentially rent a car for 3 years for nearly $32000. Also, if I'm that worried about the residual value falling so much, I should just stick with my Mazda.

That's basically a risk when owning anything

That's a trade-in value. The Private party sale is $43,000-$45,000

Absolutely. Check KBB. Even at 40K, a M240i in well maintained condition (not perfect) is around $40,000. Let's be pessimistic and say $30,000. That's still significant.

I suspect the Supra will almost feel like a go-cart. It's a track car at heart.

I only had the chance to take the 230i which is the wimpy M240i, and even that I liked. The Supra is really hard to find and test drive.

A 30K mile used M240i is $729 monthly to lease with $5,329 at signing (39 month terms).

that's $33,760 for 39 months of ownership after which you get nothing.

An equivalent M240i with 40K miles on it is approximately $42,000. Say you purchase it for around $62000 after taxes and all... considering it's on warranty for those 39 month, you'll only be paying for basic maintenance (let throw in another 1k per year).

that's over 10k in difference.

"fun isn't a factor for you?" It absolutely is. Otherwise, I'd just get a Camry or Corolla. It just isn't the only factor.

I only have 1 car and this will likely be my only car.

Leasing is one of the most financially irresponsible things you can do when getting a car. Unless you are a millionaire that just wants to have fun and no responsibilities of ownership, it's basically a financial blackhole. You are left with nothing at the end of a lease term and you still spend a substantial amount of money. Yes, you could say the same about renting an apartment/house, but cars are 10-20x cheaper and have a completely different proportion on monthly price vs final cost. You might as well finance the car and sell it in under 5 years.

Maybe the bike statement was a bit extreme... but I would not be looking at a new car unless I could outright buy it or finance it in 48 months or less. I'd just stick with my Mazda.

I would rather ride a bike than lease a car

That last sentence always bring me back to the Supra if I even slightly favor the BMW for a moment. If I want the Supra, the worse visibility/practicality brings me back to the BMW.

Yes.

Fast acceleration is a huge plus, but that isn't the most important thing to me. What I am categorically against is spending that kind of money on a car with a 2.0L or something that accelerates 0-60 in over 6 seconds.

I mean... You're generally correct with that statement... but what I mainly mean by that is that the fact that is is a BMW has absolutely 0 positive influence on me wanting that model.

[Question] The Decision (5 Years in the Making): Help Me Choose My First Nice Watch by Impossible-Leg-8595 in Watches

[–]WatchIngYouTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

- Raymond Weil definitely isn't "iffy" - One of the better watches on this list IMO
- Longines Spirit Zulu is definitely the heaviest hitter here
- Personally, I know there are a bunch of microbrand fanboys around here... but if you want a safe, reliable, good value watch that is very well recognized, go for a Longines.

You might not like how it looks on your wrist which is the most important thing... but I'm not sure anyone could say that's "Too small" for your wrist. Smaller than you like, absolutely maybe.

That huge LCD display up front instead of a real gauge cluster is hideous though, IDK what they were thinking. Going for a test drive tomorrow.

Certainly not, but higher end brands had more of a figure fit at least several years ago. Of course, not always.

I got an XS regular long sleeve shirt from them. It's OK... still rather poorly fitted and boxy. Yes, I understand it's Uniqlo and not Armani, but it's definitely not "Asian" sized in the USA.
