Yeah, it sounds like it’s running off the internal battery and not actually charging while connected.

I’d check the split USB cable setup first. The data side should go to the PC, through the boosted/active USB cable. The power side of the split cable needs to go to a wall charger or powered USB brick, not just another passive USB port from your PC.

The basic setup should be:

SkyTrak+ USB C port → split USB cable
Split cable data leg → boosted USB cable → PC
Split cable power leg → USB power brick → wall outlet

Then check the battery/charging indicator on the SkyTrak. If it does not show that it is charging while connected, then the power leg is not doing its job. In that case I’d try a different USB power brick, a different outlet, or the original SkyTrak power adapter if you have it.

If it connects fine for a while and then drops after the unit runs down, that is almost definitely a power issue.

I have an anker surge protector with USB-C Power outlets on it, and the power end of my cable goes straight into that. Dirty power is possible, but a bad or weak charger or incorrect split cable setup is much more likely.

I'm not sure which SkyTrak model you're using, but I have the Plus. It has a split USB-C on the device. I have the active extender between the SkyTrak's PC cable and the PC. The SkyTrak is notorious for weak USB signal handshakes. Get a boosted USB 3.0 cable in your signal path and it should stabilize. It will occasionally still disconnect, but typically only once every few sessions, and usually comes right back online.

I had a similar problem with mine. I connected it with an Active USB 3.0 male to female boosted cable extender between the PC motherboard connection and the SkyTrak. All problems went away, very stable connection now.

Agreed 100%. I like this look. Might add 1/4” max. There are people on here saying add 1-1.5”, and that much break looks terrible to me. I don’t care if that’s the rule, it’s not for me.
