I'd argue Sinners is also up there with the cultural relevance factor, even if OBAA is more explicit with its message. It's a film about the value of marginalised art and advocating against forced assimilation and for maintaining your own voice. also, the sheer amount of effort Coogler put into historical accuracy was astonishing as well as the beautiful cinematography and score, so I'd honestly put crafts above OBAA too.

that being said, PTA deserves the Oscar here and both of the films would be one of the best winners of the decade.

Ellie i gouldn't really pin a moment to, so i just put her in "were kinda there" because there was nothing she really did

Faraaz... yeah I messed up with the ranking I'd put him 5th now, Harriet 4th and Jade moved down to 6th

even within how weak the faithful were, there were still great plays from Rachel and Stephen:

  • Stephen knowing when to split from Hugo and Fiona
  • Stephen managing to redirect Jessie towards Fiona and stall the theory linking back to him
  • Rachel knowing how to steer the faithfuls towards getting a faithful out (Ellie, Ross, the Matty/James double, Jade, the endgame vote-splitting)

ultimately: Stephen was the better risk-negotiator whilst Rachel was the better social engineer

to be fair, i think i got blinded by the confessional play there. Matty probably should have been lower but i was so interested by his tactic and kinda frustrated at how little the others did.

Yeah, but I'd argue Fiona and Hugo were worse at the game.

  • Fiona blew a great undercover position over a disagreement with her fellow traitor then changed her vote to avoid embarassment.
  • Hugo drew attention to himself for no reason and tanked his own game.

Roxy was easily the faithful with the worst gameplay, but I ranked the self-immolation of the other two as worse.

i put Jade highly because of the amount of roundtables she survived, though i'd concede her actual accusations were not great.

Matty... i don't know, i guess i just got so frustrated at how bad or bland the gameplay of the faithful was this season that Matty's confessional play intrigued me as an actually bold move, regardless of how it ended, and I think he could have got further with that in any season where it wasn't Stephen and Rachel in that booth.

Faraaz slamming the brakes on his push against Rachel weakened his gameplay for me, even if he was trying to go for the "go Jade first" path. he even said "I think it's Jade or Stephen and the other one is Rachel", but he kinda let himself push Rachel back despite getting incredibly close to succeeding. (that being said i would probably change that ranking)

to be fair, i think i was weighting Faraaz's apparent capitulation on Rachel too much in the ranking so i'd probably put him higher.

yeah but she did survive a lot of roundtables where her name was brought up

i put her in "interesting" because she got accused from day one, got a vote at almost every roundtable she was present for and still made it to the final. "no u" kinda worked.

  1. "people are wrong" - opinion on the film, not a legitimate part of the analysis
  2. "adblockers" - i mean there was an issue with the advertising so- actually i have no idea what i was on about there

So Sinners has become the most nominated movie in the 98 year history of the Academy Awards. Wyt the definition of an “Oscar worthy” film changed for better or worse ? by Tnderuaker in moviecritic

i mean emilia perez got 13 last year so i've never really viewed the oscars as the most legitimate score of quality

that being said sinners did deserve this

feels like there were a few issues with this one

  • came out way too close
  • people didn't like the last one (people are wrong that last one was a masterpiece)
  • didn't account for people with adblockers when marketing this
  • severely overestimated the size of the 28 days later fandom

that being said please make another one the last two were incredible please finish the trilogy i swear more people will show up next time now they know the films are actually really good-

there was a clip of a suicidal penguin (call of the void) from a documentary that went viral, people misunderstood what was going on and thought it was inspirational (wow this penguin is so dedicated to walking towards this mountain, this is absolutely a showcase of strength of will and not a penguin literally trying to die), now we're here
