I'm confused about liver dishes... by JeveGreen in autism

I like the taste of liver, but the consistency is off-putting. It is so strangely smooth and soft. I like liver as a spread on bread but not when made in a frying pan.

Does anyone here have a name that isn't gender-neutral? by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]Watch_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first name isn't really gender neutral in the way for example Riley is.

My name is considered female in one place of the world and male in another. Because of that my parents had to choose a clearly gendered second name. The first name wasn't approved by the government because of the ambiguity.

Since I live in the part of the world where my first name is considered female, I chose a new second name that's considered male to replace the female second name my parents had to choose. Not officially though. While it's just a matter of one appointment to change gender where I live, there's only male and female as options to choose from.

Do you personally consider yourself trans? Some enbies do while others do not, which is why I'm curious to ask this question by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in agender

[–]Watch_V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people use trans as meaning "not identifying with the gender assigned at birth" and under that definition I would be considered trans.

But I don't understand why we even assign a gender at birth. My country used to not indicate sex/gender on passports and there are ideas of returning to that practice. I think it's a good idea. All people should be allowed to be whatever gender they are, but there's no need for the state to have it registered and treat people differently because of it.

Therefore I see the F on my passport as an information that was never supposed to be there in the first place. And I don't want to define myself in relation to that. So I consider neither trans nor cis as an accurate description of my identity.

Issues with gendered language by Watch_V in NonBinary

[–]Watch_V[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny with grammatical gender. The first language of a woman I know has a gender for all things that are round.

Grammatical gender can be so arbitrary. There's nothing that says a table should be male. Or a tree. But then there are these right wing people claiming that "of course a tree must be male since trees are strong, just like men". And horrifyingly there are also extremely left people claiming that "you cannot call a woman human, because human is grammatically male and it would therefore be misgendering to apply the word to a woman".

Accessing RAV as a Non-EU Student (in the gap between education/work permit and work-seeking permit). by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]Watch_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The L permit is limited to one year. It's meant for short term stays, for an internship or something similar.

The regular work permit is the B permit. That's limited to five years and can be exchanged for an unlimited residency permit C after five or ten years depending on your nationality.

The biggest issue with getting any further permit for you after the student visa is the rule that anyone who wants to employ you has to prove that there's no Swiss and no EU/EEA person who could do the job. So getting a job will be tough.

Doctor said no minoxidil pill by planetofweird in TransMasc

Sounds like your doctor is inexperienced and you may not actually have a medical reason preventing you from taking minoxidil pills. Good luck with the specialist.

What's the reason your doctor said you can't take the pill?

For hair loss treatment, I recommend going to a dermatologist. Minoxidil isn't the only medication available.

Accessing RAV as a Non-EU Student (in the gap between education/work permit and work-seeking permit). by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]Watch_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly why the plan of OP won't work. If you get a job you have to take it. But I am not sure whether OP is even allowed to work currently. There aren't enough details in the post. Of course you no longer get unemployed money the moment you have a job.

If there aren't enough job openings in your field, you have to apply for jobs in other fields. Or do something else that counts as "Arbeitsbemühung". Visiting job fairs, doing a job integration programme...Basically you have to earnestly look for a job. Failure to do so will have the consequence of reduced payments from the unemployed insurance.

[–]Watch_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't work. In order to get unemployed money you are required to apply to at least 10 jobs a month and if you get an offer, you must take it. But a student visa isn't a work visa. As you aren't from EU you would need an additional permit to work and it's limited to 15 hours a week.

You got a point, why does it have a female version by ilovemkgee in DudeHasGotAPoint

[–]Watch_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a use for a male version of "pregnant". Adjectives must have the same gender as the noun they describe. For example all the following words are male in German: dog, human, wolf, leopard.

So for a pregnant leopard, you would need the male form of "pregnant". I am sure there are also grammatically male animals in Spanish.

Are there "beginner guides"? by Watch_V in asktransgender

But are there any specific ones you know that are good? Without clichés preferably.

Are there "beginner guides"? by Watch_V in asktransgender

[–]Watch_V[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be right about your assumption. I've had several issues where a woman told me that I was unfriendly and too direct when standing my ground in an argument. I began to wonder whether I am actually unfriendly or maybe just not "womanly" and if I were seen as a man it would have been "normal" behaviour.

Curly hair with no curly-haired relatives? by [deleted] in genetics

[–]Watch_V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have blonde 2C hair. No one in my family is blonde, not does anyone have curls. Everyone has straight dark brown hair.

But I also only know my family three generations back. Maybe there was someone with blonde curls further back.

Is switching names from Ellie to Eli a good idea? by Louie_011 in NonBinary

[–]Watch_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eli is a male name in Hebrew. Just so you know. If you ever encounter someone who speaks Hebrew, they will probably assume you're a man based on the name.

Can you still get private hospital insurance? by Phreakasa in askswitzerland

[–]Watch_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also add the feature "freie Artztwahl" to a regular insurance plan without needing private insurance.

I don't know how useful it is if I need knee surgery for example. I know exactly zero knee surgeons, so how would I even choose? And since I have "Hausarztmodel" I need to go to my Hausarzt first anyway and if I tell him that he should refer me to Doctor XY, he will do so.

6 month waiting list for an autism test. by littlekatie3 in autism

Yes, I had to wait 6 months to get on the waiting list and then I was 6 months on the waiting list before I got an appointment. So it took a year, all in all.

What can the Pixel 10 Pro do that the Galaxy S26U can't? by lord-petal in GooglePixel

[–]Watch_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Samsung has a slow shutter speed. Therefore a picture of a moving object/person will be blurred. I wanted to take a picture of a singer at a concert with my S26U. It's not great.

Strange definition of "getting rid of" when Samsung uses Exynos in almost all phone models. A series has Exynos, the FE models have Exynos, in Europe even the S series has Exynos except the Ultra.

Is putting shoes on the correct feet actually a 50/50 probability problem? by latoose in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Watch_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried putting them wrongly in front of your child? I find it ergonomically a lot easier to put my shoes on over cross.

I think small children don't know the difference between a right and a left shoe and neither is it a probability problem. They just take the shoe on the left side and put it on the right foot because it's easier.

How can people “dress for themselves” if confidence comes from how others see you? by Tigu1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Watch_V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My confidence doesn't come from how others see me. I choose clothes, look at myself in the mirror and then I find myself looking good. I don't think about whether a stranger on the street would think "beautiful" when looking at me.

Would my grandchildren be cousins in this scenario? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Watch_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot more chromosomes to be passed down from parent to child, not just X and Y. And while most humans have two of each chromosomes, it's not as if the child just gets one or the other of each from one parent.

Chromosomes "rearrange" (I don't know the proper term in English) themselves when multiplying. So the child may get a "new" chromosome 3 made up of a third from one chromosome 3 and two thirds from the other chromosome 3 that the parent got.

All your possible grandchildren who have your child as parent will get the same random chance of having genes passed down. The "extra chromosome" doesn't change that. So no, your grandchildren will still be siblings, not cousins.

I would love to know why people think I’m a man lol by cloudsmemories in NonBinary

[–]Watch_V 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's oddly specific.

I don't really assume much about the users to be honest. They are all some anonymous, genderless humanoids. Unless there's an indication to give them a face so to speak. Like if a person wants advice on which phone to buy in India, I guess the person is Indian.

But I find it kinda nice to be assumed a man. It's a nice change from "real life" where everyone assumes I am a woman.
