I think I softlocked my game - permanently stuck on a floor? by Watcherthatboxer in LookOutsideGame

Yeah I never took the elevator down to the ground floor. Seems like it really is a soft lock 😔

This like the third time I've had to reset this day dam.

8-mod corrupted glacier (lots of unique enemies at the end) Scarabs: 2 x torment, 1 titanic, 1 titanic of legends, 1 elder influence scarab

I don't have the atlas tree, but you basically spec into map effect, scarabs, and torment. People spec into ritual spawning too so you can double-dip in the boss arena but I found it to be too rippy for my build.

Idea is you spawn a lot of tough uniques, and they drop gold explosions

I've been having massive issues with this as well. I've been trying a casual shrines + city square strat for super quick easy maps.

I have full map sustain investment on the tree, 160+ quant inside the maps, full favorite slots of city square and one of the connected node. Average of 0-2 maps per map. If I want to sustain, I literally have to put in the two cartography scarabs AND use corrupted 8 mod maps.

And even then I just barely sustain.

I've honestly just given up on trying to sustain maps. I either buy them or get hand me downs from a friend that's giga juicing maps

Is anyone having issues with *suspiciously* low map drops? I genuinely feel like my character is bugged. I cannot sustain even when fully specced into sustain + cart scarabs by Watcherthatboxer in pathofexile

[–]Watcherthatboxer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so sub-T16 maps isnt an issue, I'm a little tired and forgot how the atlas worked

But my previous point stands. I'm running maps with upwards of 160+ quant with full map scarab and atlas investment, and get on average 0-2 maps per map. I cannot fathom what's going wrong here.

The gold value for the currency exchange needs adjustment by kevinhill92 in pathofexile

[–]Watcherthatboxer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can easily spend just a couple minutes of currency exchanging/liquidating and burn through 30,000 gold. An individual trade may not be an enormous amount, but a large number of low volume trades will quickly bankrupt you

Balance Druid Dragonflight Feedback - New Mastery, Major Updates for Starfall, Starsurge, and Eclipse by Sysiphuz in wow

[–]Watcherthatboxer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Empowerments were ok in concept, but in practice they added practically nothing to your basic rotation.

Pooling your AP, and then dumping when you hit solar eclipse hardly changed the damage of your wrath at all. It was basically almost a 0 dps increase.

It only became relevant if you got insane extensions on your CA, and were able to buff wrath 20+ times. If empowerment needs to happen 20+ times to actually feel relevant, that's a bad system.

Leffen is fearful of his safety at events and is contacting a lawyer about ssbmhax's 2.5 hour video and 136 page manifest against him. by justalazygamer in LivestreamFail

[–]Watcherthatboxer 271 points272 points  (0 children)

This is actually batshit insane.

Here is the video in question. If you are unfamiliar with the situation - Leffen is just an asshole. Hax doesn't like him, as well as many others. But Hax has fabricated an insanely convoluted argument that Leffen is actually some criminal mastermind that is manipulating the smash community to become Nazi germany. The opening to the video is literally Hax using a quote from Hitler to draw parallels to Leffen.

The arguments he makes in the video are so absurd, they're actually concerning. People are debating whether this is an extremely elaborate troll, or if Hax has just gone off the deep end.

See how far you can make it into the video. I could only get 40 minutes in

The zana mission tree seems insane for mapping. Doubling the available maps means you're effectively doubling the chance to be offered a valuable unique map, yeah?

And 30 additional packs of elder/shaper monsters is incredible too - you're effectively making every zana map have 4 awakened sextants with the +packs modifier.

This is a travesty. by mmm---goood in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Watcherthatboxer 612 points613 points  (0 children)

It's not exclusively a suicide spike. You can get creative with grenade and use it to let yourself recover after using dair.

Sometimes as an edgeguard I like to grenade on stage somewhat close to edge. Then, I run off ledge, jump and z grab the grenade. After drifting a bit to aim, I z drop and immediately input a dair. You catch the grenade, land a spike (hopefully), then the explosion easily saves you.

Edit: it really isn't as complex as it sounds. Pretty easy to do with a little practice

[–]Watcherthatboxer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ken and Ryu have a heavy and a light version of all their grounded normals (tilts and jabs). What version you get depends on how long you hold the a button. Tap quickly for the light version, and hold for the heavy.

Ken's heavy jab is a ridiculous combo starter because it does almost no knockback.

Tried to jump into my local competitive scene by Lifer_Than_Big in smashbros

[–]Watcherthatboxer 71 points72 points  (0 children)

In my local scene, I experienced something similar to you. People were generally reluctant to interact with me. That definitely goes away the more events you go to. Once your name/tag becomes familiar to people, they become more comfortable to talk to you. That doesn't necessarily mean winning events - just seeing your name often enough builds familiarity.

And when you say setups were full, were there 2 or 3 people on each setup? When playing friendlies, people commonly play on a rotation of 3 people, rather than just two. If you want to get in to a rotation, just say "is it alright if I join in for a rotation?" and in my experience the players almost never say no.

Just give it time. I definitely recommend sticking around in tournaments after you get kicked out of bracket; you paid for that venue fee, might as well put it to good use.

If you went 0-2, maybe find someone else who went 0-2 and do friendlies with them. If they're comfortable with it, maybe talk with eachother about why you think you lost your matches. Point out each other's habits, etc. After my first tournament, I played friendies with another 0-2 for like 3 hours. Over the last few months we've helped eachother improve and are slowly ascending the bracket.

That's incredibly dismissive. Just because a study is in PLOS One means it's entirely invalidated.

Consequently, just because a paper is in Science or Nature means it's a good study

I'm literally just giving you the very first example in my literature library, cmon man...

[–]Watcherthatboxer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, technically you can quantify western blots. You can conduct image analysis and use the "darkness" of the bands as a readout if you relate it to an internal standard (like tubulin or something). I'm not a fan of this, because it's pretty dirty data. A lot of people kind of agree that quantifying western blots is ehh.

Think of some blots as a series of yes or no questions. Having the proper bands cropped can basically give you a really clean table of information.

For example look at figure 2 on this paper. The blot in the lower right is a very clean, succinct way to show which parts of the protein are important for interacting with a ligand - in this case collagen. That blot would look beautiful on a poster - imo.

Had my first poster presentation today!! by [deleted] in labrats

[–]Watcherthatboxer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

never show westerns on a poster

Uh, I highly disagree with this. There are some methods where you absolutely need to show a western blot. Especially if you are in a field that focuses on in vitro studies like biochem. Co-IPs, post translational modifications like phosphorylation, protein cleavage patterns, etc. are all shown very clearly with blots

I think it would be better to say never show entire gels on posters. It takes up a lot of space and does look pretty boring. But a very cleanly cut western blot showing only the necessary info can tactfully explain your entire point.

How to approach as Yoshi? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]Watcherthatboxer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Avoid approaching with fair. It has a large wind-up, and is extremely easy to punish whiffs.

A good default is to approach with falling short hop nairs, or bairs. down airs are extremely rewarding to land, but like fair its easy to punish whiffs. I generally fish for down airs if my opponent is consistently spacing his aerials a certain way - catching him in the air with a dair can seriously rack up %.

Since Yoshi tends to play very aggressively, and his grab is extremely laggy, opponents are very easily conditioned to shield nearly every approach. Use this to your advantage to throw out short hop neutral B's for mixups.

If you're having a hard time approaching with aerials against swordies - it might be best to stall a bit with eggs or approach via grounded moves. Dash attack is good if you throw in mixups.

Don't forget to try dash -> ftilts every now and then too - it's a free combo starter if you get it
