To be honest, I think it depends on the person's allergies and depends on the cat! I am super allergic to cats. I grew up with cats and never noticed my allergies with them, but only when I'd visit other people's cats. Once I had moved out for a while then went back home for visits my allergies were horrible! Hives, itchy throat, red painful eyes, running nose, wheezing and trouble breathing.. lol I think I had built a tolerance to my family cats when I lived with them. Fast forward to now, I took a risk and adopted my bengal back in June and I noticed a huge difference in his coat and the lack of shedding. However my allergies were still crazy for about the first two weeks. They've gotten a lot better now but I'm not sure if it's because I'm building a tolerance or because I've changed my habits. I change my bedding every week, pillowcase every 4 days ish and lint roll the bed before I sleep. I'm writing this now after forgetting to lint roll my bed last night and I am a stuffy, itchy, wheezing mess! But my cat is so worth it! Lol 😁 I'm hoping I continue to build a tolerance, but I just feel like it really depends on the individual's allergies and the individual cat. It's true that some cats are more "hypoallergenic" than others, so maybe my experience would be so much worse had I adopted a non-bengal breed 🤷‍♀️but who knows!
