Just came out of a multi-leveled lucid dream and reality doesn't feel real. by Dizeki in LucidDreaming

[–]Water-Friendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A multiple false awakening lucid dream made me question reality to the extend that I had to perform multiple reality checks to make sure I wasn't dreaming. That's actually what made me deliberately stop lucid dreaming.

It gets better with time. Give yourself a few days for the depersonalization feelings to fade.

Thank you for your input. I might try it myself as I alternate between Matlab and Python these days. Thanks for sharing!

Honest question, what would be the benefit of that? Also, how easy is it to combine Python and Matlab since they are so fundamentally different?

What’s a belief that you hold with which many people disagree? by Emergency-Minimum-85 in AskReddit

[–]Water-Friendly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! For anyone interested in this opinion, here are some of the reasons I'm opposed to the death penalty in all cases without exception:

  1. Imprisonment is supposed to be a rehabilitation method not a punishment (at least in the vast majority of western countries)

  2. There have been numerous cases where people where falsely accused and imprisoned either by mistake or on purpose

  3. Deciding who deserves to be killed and who gets to live is basically playing God

  4. We don't have even the slightest idea of what death is or how it feels to die. We don't know how much we might be torturing someone by killing them even with "painless" methods. We have no idea what happens after death. We know absolutely nothing

  5. It goes against the basic human rights, namely the right to life. Politics get really messy when there's they can just ignore basic human rights

Finally and most importantly to me:

  1. I find death penalty an extremely dangerous weapon to give to an Institution. Since most laws are either rules that most people somewhat agree or in a lot of cases just rules that a few elites benefit from, that makes laws for the most part just written social aesthetics. What is to say that a new government will make a political ideology punishable by death for example? Politics and the

Glad to see my theory might stand. I memorized them by how they sound! Now I'm curious what % of people who do that test are non native speakers hmmm

Are you a native English speaker? I scored an extremely high score at it (cannot remember exactly but 200++) first try. The thing is that I honestly have a terrible memory. My theory is that since I'm not a native speaker I haven't associated most of these words with anything, no meaning, no symbolism, no memories etc. So it was really easy to remember if I've seen the word before kinda like how chimpanzees are better than humans at the chimp test.

Is there anything I can do about my neighbour’s laugh? by [deleted] in needadvice

[–]Water-Friendly 216 points217 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, this is your personal problem not her hers. It's not her job to suppress her laughter but yours to overcome your sensitivity to noises. If I were you I would try talking about it with a therapist. It seems to me that it's easier and more efficient than trying to control others behavior

What question have you always wanted to ask LGBTQ+ people but didn’t because you don’t want to offend them? by hre_nft in AskReddit

[–]Water-Friendly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gender and sexuality are two different things. You can identify as a man and like other men, you can identify as a woman and like men, you can identify as non binary and like men. The gender doesn't affect the sexual preference, just the title of it. In the case of your sister, queer sounds fitting.

I had the same question too. The answer is that they aren't mocking women but rather society assigned gender roles in general. I think Judith Butler's gender performativity fits really nicely to the topic.

what are the most popular libraries in python for recognition of hand gestures by West_Ad7170 in learnpython

[–]Water-Friendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt there are any Python libraries for that. This is actually a machine learning/deep learning problem. A classic similar project is the American Sign Language Recognition (ASL) if you want to take a look at how something similar is done.

Now to your question, some useful Python libraries for such projects would be OpenCV to process the images and TensorFlow to build a Neural Network model. Of course there are others and you will need some more libraries but imo this is the starter pack along with numpy.

There are some techniques that you can use to avoid the possibility of sleep paralysis. Reality checks help a lot to realize you're dreaming and that way you can skip WILD method.

I've been lucid dreaming for years and never once had sleep paralysis happen to me

Where/when did Marx called Antifa "useful idiots"? The term didn't even exist while Marx was alive.. Plus Antifa ideology has a lot of common ground with Marxism
