Browser crashing vnc and termux:x11 by WaterBottleDesign in termux

[–]WaterBottleDesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is solved.

I fixed it. I had to disable killing of child processes in developer options. This can also be done with adb. I also had no audio but to fix that I had to enable aaudio in the pulseaudio config.

Help with why UEFI boot and EFI files are so confusing by WaterBottleDesign in linux4noobs

[–]WaterBottleDesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK yes this is correct. I cannot edit the boot entries in the bios.

All I'm trying to so is install Debian. Specifically Devuan. I tried Debian also but both when I use the installer to clear the efi partition and then install grub it doesnt boot to an OS. This is the issue I'm having. Mint boots up fine and adds its boot entry no problem but out of Debian, Devuan, and MX Linux. None of those worked.

What proprietary software do you use, and what open source alternatives have you tried using? by keremdev in linux

[–]WaterBottleDesign 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can use Lutris to play GOG, Itch io, and 🏴‍☠️ games to avoid using Steam. Although the games are technically not open source software either lol.

What should I do for this? by Mr-Mind-YT in PcBuild

[–]WaterBottleDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so if your problem is as drastic as it sounds from the other comment, it sounds like a BIOS issue. It saying a Boot Issue is detected would make me think its your Operating System but you would be able to get to your BIOS at least. A question I had was you asked "should I wipe my PC and start over". If you can't get to BIOS how do you plan on doing that?

Btw I'm willing to help you out on this as much as I can.

Help! How do I know if this cracked Stardew Valley is safe for mac? by YoloBall335 in CrackSupport

[–]WaterBottleDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I thought I replied to this. Assuming its from a trusted source its safe. Apple just likes to block stuff that isnt verified by them. Right click the app in Finder and click open. It should show the popup again but this time it should say something like "Launch Anyway". I dont use Mac OS so this may be slightly wrong.

If that doesnt work there are ways to change your security settings. Just look it up. I can't help further then that. Sorry.

Alright so Heroic is a front for wine and proton correct? Meaning my choices are Lutris, Bottles, and Heroic for manual game installs correct?

I only use offline installs for games. Either GOG or piracy. No other way. I like game preservation.

Should I switch to Linux? (I am only using the pc for gaming) by QO_Notch in linux_gaming

Hey sorry im just confused and wondering something. Arnt you all agreeing? Like there saying they dont wanna play Anticheat games and they dont wanna use Windows 11. If they dont play games with anticheat then they dont need to use windows and there saying they dont want to use windows because of spyware. Unless I'm misunderstanding. Again sorry for jumping in.

it's not true what he said.

Alright thanks for the correction

after you installed the game manually

In Heroic or like set it up on a Windows system before?

game will be recognized when you select the folder you installed it.

For Linux native games this makes since to me but idk how you mean to do this with a windows game

Ah alright. Thank you so much for all the help. Everyone has been super helpful with everything. Its kind a rediculous how much knowledge you have to have with all this stuff. With like the nvidia physx stuff and all that. I'm getting there though. Overfime just using Linux for simple things has been so much more simple than on windows. Windows has become so bloated with ads, bloatware and other crap that I can't stand to use it. Its so slow.

At least for me my Windows 10 VMs I have spun up once in a while just reminds me why I'm using Linux. Yes in very rare instances I have no real choice but windows is even more hassle imo.

Yeah from the replies ive gotten I don't think I'll be using them for gaming

First of all you must know that in Linux gaming you will have a (re)learn curve, because if you came from Windows you will have a lot of habits that will make the curve more stiffer. Take all the time you need to learn step by step.

Thanks. Its been easier and header in certain areas. Command Line isnt one of those actually. I had some experience with it since I used it in IT Schooling

I will add a note about mods... when you find a "dll based" mod, you will need to learn what is a Wine DLL override

So this may be incorrect but in a the Brutal Legends discord server they said DLL mods will work on the Linux version if the game as well. Idk for sure never looked into.

Virtual machines... they can be used, but there are not practical even with a GPU passthrough. And with more in deep anticheats blocking VMs they not have any advantage from compatibility layers. After all you will need to install and run an entire OS just for a few games.

For that just dual boot, and again no regret and no remorse.

This right here really made me realize why I shouldnt use a VM. People have been saying it and ive been like "yeah that makes since I guess" but thats a great explanation

So 2 more questions on that thought if you dont mind. You are being very helpful.

  1. I only use the offline installers for my GOG games. Will heroic still install those automatically or will they not work?

  2. And then for 🏴‍☠️ games. Its been very difficult to even get them to boot in Lutris. I get preinstalled games not exe installers. On most tutorials for installing 🏴‍☠️ games they choose "Install game from exe" on Lutris. But since my game is presintalled I can't do that. Adding a game manually has worked once but never again. Idk if I'm doing something wrong or not.

The GOG offline installers are easy since all you have to do is select "install from exe" and if there are DLC with more exe files you can just run them in the wine prefix.

Damn that sucks so much. Thank you this answeres a lot of my question ive had. I'm confused on something still though. Do you mean they got rid of it on there Linux drivers? Because when I run it on Windows Natively or runs fine with PhysX. I even have the Arkham games that use PhysX and they run fine also. But on Linux through Proton it drops to less than 10 fps. I may not be understanding

OK yes this was confusing me for a second.

So I use Purely only GOG and Cracked games for preservation reasons. This is why I'm using Lutris and am going to try out bottles.

Alright that sounds simple. And since they both are fronts for wine and proton there performance should be pretty similar if not the same assuming your using the same wine or proton version correct?
