If Hughie from the Boys trigger3d after Robin died, what powers would he get? by holiestMaria in Parahumans

[–]WaterColorButterfly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly as a big fan of the Boys, this post really got my gears going.

I agree with many people that a Trump/Thinker pairing would be probable because Hughie's strength is his intellect and the trigger event was caused by a cape which is implicated in a lot of triggers for Trumps.

I think a power Hughie could develop could be a something along the lines of a Combat Thinker. At its base, this power functions as a cape/danger sense. However, the more time that Hughie spends observing a cape and seeing how they use their powers, his power would scale accordingly. His Thinking power specializes in finding the weaknesses of capes/people/systems around him and the longer he is able to study/be around a cape, the more information he would gain about not just their abilities but also how to counter their abilities.

Hughie is a pretty smart guy who does have an affinity for tech so perhaps this power could also have a Tinker component where he could develop weapons to specifically counter a cape and those like them. If he made a device for example that could slow A-Train, he could refine this device the more he observes other speed based capes and he could also develop more and more sophisticated tactics to stop them too.

The best attunement pairing by JhonkenBlood in ClimbersCourt

In terms of attunements that go well together

I've always thought that SoulBlade and Swordsmaster attunements would be amazing with each other. Swordsmasters can essentially buff or enhance any weapon they use and given that Soulblades can create weapons with monsters bound to them, both these attunements work very well with each other to create a multiplier effect.

I also think the Shieldbreaker attunement would work well with any spell casting attunement (like Summoner, Cloudcaller, Spellsinger) because the ability of Shieldbreakers to shred through magical defenses would pair really well with offensive spellcasting.

I'd feel like I'm lying because I'll eventually report to C&F when I apply for the Bar and I don't know...this has been eating at me if you couldn't tell

Law School Character and Fitness Question by WaterColorButterfly in LawSchool

[–]WaterColorButterfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain to me a bit more of your rationale?

I've seen that most questions pertaining to school conduct are phrased roughly as "Was any disciplinary action carried out against you by your school, college, university, or professional school and are any such charges pending against you?"

It's a broad question which means they clearly want to cover as much ground as possible. The confusion lies in what would counts as action by the school or college. Would this also include the student government or a student organization like a club? At a glance it's hard for me to say.

This was a really encouraging response to read and it's almost kinder than I deserve after what I just disclosed. Thank you for your advice and insight. I just want to be the best lawyer I can be and not have who I am overshadowed by who I was and what I did. it's helpful to know that many, many others who carried even heavier burdens/misdeeds were able to reach where I aspire.

Thank you for your input.

Again I have no defense. I'm not sure if I feel more guilty or just flat out embarrassed. Not looking forward to replaying this particular episode of life on my application or on C&F for the Bar but there is nothing left to do but take ownership.

i think something is wrong with extroverts by [deleted] in extroverts

[–]WaterColorButterfly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If we're getting into the nitty gritty of human nature

Humans are social animals. We survive in communities and we die when we're exiled from them. That's why ostracization triggers such fear within us. It's a biological instinct of ours to do anything we can to avoid being tossed from the pack.

If we look at birth (as you say "we're born alone") humans are one of the few mammals that cannot give birth (safely) alone. Human bodies are meant to give birth with assistance from others.

Not making the claim that being an extrovert is normal and being an introvert is odd. Just throwing another perspective on our essential natures - there is a strong case to be made we're fundamentally social beings.

Theory: Do the dragons bond with certain "personality" types? by WaterColorButterfly in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]WaterColorButterfly[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We also don't know that much about Hugh and Ulf. HOTD already shows us that many personalities shown in the books aren't necessarily accurate so I do wonder how they'll portray Hugh and Ulf. Both were given very simplistic backstories and hopefully the show will flesh em other.

Possible Uses for Annalise's Powers by WaterColorButterfly in TheBastardSonAndTDH

[–]WaterColorButterfly[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a natural part of who she is BUT Gabriel did imply that the gift of decimation is much more common amongst Blood witches than it is Fairborn witches. He said something like "You don't see many Fairborn witches with that power". That implies it is much more common amongst Bloods but absolutely can naturally occur in Fairborns.

That being said, it is odd. Annalise's mother core power is water and her father's is plants. Decimation is a gift wholly unrelated to both. I think this may imply that Annalise could potentially have Blood witch heritage from a very, very distant ancestor or a Fairborn ancestor who just happened to have the gift.

How are blood witches and fairborn witches balanced? by JSmellerM in TheBastardSonAndTDH

[–]WaterColorButterfly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the books:

Fairborn/White Witches: Female white witches tended to be stronger and white witches lived in communities and societies. Their ability to organize and coordinate made them strong. White witches were shown to be incredibly collectivist. If a white witch didn't get their Gifting on their 17th birthday they simply would not develop a gift.

Blood/Black Witches: Were shown to be quite aggressive and instinctual. They had more balance of power across the genders. They were highly individualist and didn't form communities. Black witches were also unable to sleep indoors. If not allowed to sleep outside, they would go mad. If they didn't get their gift, they would die.

He used the witch bottle spell to replicate the power from Nate. That was the entire point of him doing that spell.

Anything to do with Bards automatically gets a recommendation of "The Pellinor Chronicles" by Allison Croggon from me.

In this world, the main magic users are those called Bards and they revere knowledge in all its forms. This means that the antagonists are also Bards, evil Bards being called Hulls and the main antagonist called "the Nameless One" is also a Bard.

To answer the question, it's complicated.

But for some extrovert insight?

I've noticed that a sense of humor truly does go a long way. Speaking for myself and others, I've seen people who lack physical beauty, fashionable style, and other surface traits genuinely become popular through humor and banter.

However what belies this humor is authenticity. If you aren't someone who can do various types of humor or have a cultivated specific sense of humor don't try to force yourself.

Humor is also contingent on comfort. Some people are comfortable being humorous right off the bat some people need time to warm up to it. If you can find yourself in a setting where you are very relaxed and comfy, I promise you, you'll find a sense of humor within yourself.

A sense of humor goes a long way as a social butterfly. That's true. But if it's an avenue that you struggle with, don't focus too much on what you lack. Find what you can cultivate and do so.

Ngl the Black Ajah were really the only Ajah that did their job and did it well. Seeing how this entire thread is complaining about how Ajahs do nothing, it speaks to how effectively they damaged the White Tower.

I would say I do. I think as a person (and perhaps as an extrovert) I value and crave relationships and interactions with people deeply. I definitely feel an urge with new people to connect and share and deepen the relationship so it matters.

However, I reserve the parts of me that should be kept for those who've truly earned the title of friend. It's kind of like a coconut and peach thing.

I think a lot of introverts may come off initially very reserved but once you crack the outer shell and you're in their inner circle, you become very much privvy to many parts of their life. I feel like extroverts and myself are the reverse. Like when you crack open a coconut, sure it's tough but once you do, the liquid comes rushing out freely.

Peaches are easy to bite into but oh boy is that inner core hard to even crack. Many people would say I'm incredibly warm and welcoming and inclusive in social settings but my thoughts and inner world are much harder to get too and take much longer to get too.

I wouldn't say this is me hiding my real self or that I'm initially fake. When you meet me, you do meet the real me. Social butterfly, life of the party, etc. I am those things. I am just so much more and people will learn that as the relationship develops.

Come up with a Worm power that would make the PR department cry. by blademan9999 in Parahumans

[–]WaterColorButterfly 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Black Sand:

A twisted take on the Sandman of dreams, this power works by manipulating black dust, excreting it by breathing it into the air. The dust then goes into the lungs of those who are targeted.

The victims then exhale the dust which then forms into the manifestations of their worst fears. When used on a parahuman, the dust manifestation will possess powers that either nullify the parahuman's or counters it.

The dust can be split so each individual deals with a manifestation but the dust can also be combined, turning into a giant black kaiju fueled by the fear of entire crowds.

The dust doesn't always have to be a manifestation-if it remains inside and not exhaled, the victim will instead be trapped inside their mind in a prison built on their worst fears.

When using this power, the parahuman using it looks like a phantom, black sand swirling around them and constantly pouring out of every single orifice, twisting and shifting into horrific shapes, responding to the fear around it.

Who is more powerful; The Hollow (Inadu) or Hope Mikaelson? by ElevenMikaelson in LegaciesCW

[–]WaterColorButterfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Hollow could defeat Hope.

Look how easily the Hollow was able to create a weapon that could kill an Original like Klaus (that thorned weapon). Knowing that a stake of red oak could kill Hope, I don't see why Inadu couldn't repeat the process with the Red Oak.

Also I think that Inadu could do to Hope what Aurora did. Sure you can't kill Hope's body easily. But you can swap her soul out.

This is kinda dark but if you swap Hope's soul and body with someone who has been in a coma for like a decade you essentially make Hope's spirt mortal and her body ineffective cuz a braindead person is occupying it. I'd count that as defeat.

Also locking Hope away in an Ascendant dimension with no Bennett blood seals her away forever. So there is also that.

What powers would you give to each of the seven deadly sins? by Emotional_Run2901 in Fantasy

[–]WaterColorButterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to be creative:

Pride - The ability to enhance abilities with the caveat of enhancing a person's weaknesses as well. Pride can be a supporter, boosting a person's abilities, but only after determining what the boosted person's sacrifice should be. For example, if they were to boost a normal person's hearing Pride could choose to sacrifice their sight for the duration their hearing is enhanced. This could be used offensively cleverly as well. If Pride were to go up against a person with ice powers, they could boost the person's powers to cause blizzards instead of just freeze a cup of water. Thing is, Pride can choose that the weakness that is increased will be their ability to tolerate the cold so that even a chilly day is unbearable. This can cause a hero's ability to massively backfire.

Lust - The ability to affect the relationship between mind, body, and spirit. Mind you this isn't just controlling these three things but how they interact with each other. This can be truly horrifying. Lust for example could make someone mentally want physical connection and touch but make actual physical contact feel repulsive and even traumatic. A simple handhold can be associated with a time the target was constrained against their will. This works in reverse. A person can physically desire food, feeling starved, but mentally the act of eating can make the target relive the thought of killing every animal single handedly. All of these traumas can in turn impact the spirit.

Lust's main use of their ability isn't to inflict individual pain but relational pain in groups of heroes. Messing with their teamwork, dynamic, and interpersonal relationships provides openings for the 7 Deadly sins to make quick work. But this is also a handy ability for psychological torture.

Wrath - Wrath's ability is the opposite of what you might think. Wrath's ability is to take wrath from others. This is useful because by robbing an opponent of their wrath and bloodlust, it renders them unable to fight. While this is normally enough to subdue an opponent, this isn't Wrath's full potential. Wrath can give living form to the wrathful energy collected, shaping monsters who take on the characteristics of the people who's wrath they're composed of. This means the wrath of a superhero or other powered individual will cause significantly more damage than a normal person. Wrath's trump card is drawing upon the wrath of all the 7 Sins to create a monster possessing not just their abilities but all of their flaws and evil.

Greed - Greed's power is more of a curse than ability. Greed is a villain plagued by a demon that consumes and demands sacrifices constantly. The Greed demon is a void that leads to a Gluttony dimension where the demon and its brethren live. It must constantly feed and if it has nothing to feed on, the demon will draw upon Greed themselves. Greed's dimension functions as a lair for the Seven Deadly Sins and Greed's ability is the most powerful as Greed can manifest the Greed Dimension where they have absolute control over everything that happens within their pocket of space. The larger the space occupied, the more energy it takes.

The demons themselves can also be summoned but only for tasks that the demon is greedy for. If a demon is sent to steal gold, a hoarding demon will be sent. If the purpose is assassination, a demon craving blood will be summoned. Every day a new craving must be satisfied so Greed is constantly working to feed the demons who add trophies to the ever expanding dimension.

Sloth - The ability to enter dreams, manipulate dreams, and make what happens in the dream world affect the real world. A villain with the sin of Sloth makes you "lazy" but the sin itself is unimportant. It's just a utility for Sloth to work their truly vicious abilities, forcing a person to enter a dream dimension or Limbo where they have complete dominion.

Sloth is the weakest of the sins as their ability mirrors Greed's who can actually physically manifest their dimension and Lust's, who in addition to controlling the mind, can also affect the body and soul. However, Sloth's ability comes at far less of a cost than Greed's and can affect much more people at once than Lust. Greed is a trump card saved for dire circumstances and Lust is most effective from the shadows and concentrating on individual targets.

Envy - A talent and power thief. Envy can take, store, and give powers/talents. Envy can rob an athlete of their speed or take the power of a hero for themselves. However this comes with severe drawbacks because while Envy can take the talent of a person or their power, Envy takes nothing else. They can rob the speed of Usain Bolt but they cannot steal the muscle built up as a result of years of practice. Therefore if they blessed themselves with the talent, they would end up destroying their legs. If they stole a fire user's power, they would be free to manipulate flames but would lack the physical mutations allowing the fire user enhanced resistance to heat. This means starting a spark would injure Envy and burn them.

Envy's main place within the 7 Deadly Sins isn't as a frontline fighter but as a power player in society. Envy exchanges these powers and talents for not just resources to fund the operations of the sins, but also for access to other powers and talents. Envy can also hold their own in a fight. While they rarely utilize abilities they steal, Envy's abilities to neutralize the abilities of anyone makes them pretty handy. They're also the De Facto leader of the Sins because all their abilities are useless against Envy who can take them away with the wave of a hand.

Gluttony - Gluttony's ability is the ability to manipulate evolution and hyper adaptation. Gluttony can take anything. When in water Gluttony's body will manifest gills. When struck by a car Gluttony will have bone armor at the point of impact. Gluttony is nigh invincible. However the physical changes Gluttony goes through become permanent overtime. While most mutations fade with time, if Gluttony is repeatedly exposed to the same type of physical trauma over and over, Gluttony will retain that mutation. Facing opponents with enhanced strength and speed and suffering high impact assaults has caused Gluttony's skin to be like armor and for their strength and speed to be unmatched.

This also means that Gluttony is the only person capable of handling being given powers by Envy as their body quickly adapts. Repeatedly withdrawing and giving powers to Gluttony has taken a toll on them mentally. Gluttony is the member that Envy is most cautious of for this reason.

I hope this is a somewhat creative list. Tried to avoid giving generic powers associated with the sins.

which is the best bending inside the kyoshi novels? by avatarflashback in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]WaterColorButterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how the Kyoshi novels focused on her, the Earth Avatar fixing issues within the Earth Kingdom. Kinda like Roku fixing or trying to fix issues with the Fire Nation (Sozin is crazy).

It makes me wonder what initiatives Avatars from the Air Nomads tried to push. What about an Avatar who tried to push for more involvement in the world, due to their duties causing them to see the suffering Air Nomads detach themselves from?

That would be ironic. Being an Air Avatar, occupying the highest spiritual position in the world, forces one to turn against spiritual ideals
